Way before my time (I was born in 1982), but I do think that 1965-1975 (ish) is the best and most innovative ten years in music history.

Agree, OP. In my opinion, a time of so much creativity, originality, and songs and artists who reflected and effected so much pop-culture change during that time, not just memorable or hit music product.

Carole King-Tapestry, PInk Floyd-Dark Side of the Moon, James Taylor-Sweet Baby James, Chicago Transit Authority, Marvin Gaye - What's Going On?...... I could go on and on.
Totally agree, OP.

1960-1969: every musical genre produced hits. There are plenty of classics from Motown, The British Invasion, girl groups, country, folk, psychedelic rock, R&B, blue-eyed soul, the crooners, etc.

As far as creativity goes, yes, I agree that 65-75 period is the most amazing. Tons of experimentation. So many musicians just threw the rules out and started trying new things.
