Anna Faris — Why She Left “Mom”?

While the show is now gone, the question of why/how Faris got out of her contract early remain, but there is new info.

On her podcast, Unqualified, where she and celeb guests try to provide advice to callers, this week she was addressing a question about toxic workplaces.

She shared an incident from her past where she said she discovered that a fellow cast member was feeding stories about her to the press. She said it got out of hand and other cast members knew and were sympathetic and that they joked that said betraying cast mate should at least feed the press more interesting stuff. She said she struggled with being in scenes with this person, knowing they were plotting against her.

I’m not aware of her doing any ongoing projects (not one-off movies) beyond Mom. Sounds like the type of thing that she might have used to make a case for a hostile work environment.

Separately, she’s also mentioned a situation on a project where someone in a position of power (producer?) was insensitive to her… just not listening to her concerns about certain scenes at all, and being a dick all the time.

I wonder who the cast member might be.

Is it taller than ten bread boxes stacked vertically?

by Anonymousreply 1January 12, 2022 8:58 PM

It can't be Allison Janney. Right?

by Anonymousreply 2January 12, 2022 9:34 PM

Anna Farris seems malnourished. It was probably all in her head. The woman just wanted more money for the last season.

by Anonymousreply 3January 12, 2022 9:36 PM

I was thinking Jamie Presley…? But then, I’d assume that someone who has kept moving through the industry for a while, she’s have to be somewhat stable (by actor standards)

by Anonymousreply 4January 12, 2022 9:37 PM

So what ? It should have told her that she was doing great, only if she was doing so good would a jealous pos try to start shit about her.
she said she discovered that a fellow cast member was feeding stories about her
I read this to mean, she discovered that a fellow cast member was feeding her. We ALL know that ain't true!

She left "Mom" because she's a hot mess.

It has to be the gal from Mad Men. What other actor on that set would be paid so little that they would have to supplement by selling stories to the tabloids?

by Anonymousreply 7January 12, 2022 10:07 PM
It has to be the gal from Mad Men.

Who from Mad Men was on Mom?

by Anonymousreply 8January 12, 2022 10:09 PM

I doubt it was Allison Janney. She was already the star and there was never a moment that Anna was eclipsing her.

I think it's likelier that a producer or Chuck Lorre would have been the second thing mentioned. She always seems a bit unfocused, a bit of a mess, and perhaps they didn't take her seriously as a result.

by Anonymousreply 9January 12, 2022 10:10 PM

I’m going to guess Jaime Pressly or Alison Janney.

Beth Hall was on Mad Men. She played Caroline.

In reverse this statement reads: I once worked with actor who was quite difficult to work with. She never read the entire script, only her own scenes. And as a result she kept asking me questions on how to play scenes because she didn't consider any context. She also adlibbed a lot because she couldn't bother to memorize her lines. She was constantly "improving" her scenes.

In the end nobody will tell whose story is true. Just take notes on who keeps getting work, and who vanishes.

Isn’t the scoop on Anna Faris that she’s a hot mess alcoholic irl? I would bet Kristen Johnston - who I love, but who has always struck me as a sort of a Gen X Elaine Stritch - was the one talking shit.

by Anonymousreply 13January 12, 2022 10:18 PM

Kristen is hilarious.

Alison Janney is extremely well liked in Hollywood. I doubt it was her, and if it was I am sure everything she said to the media was true.

by Anonymousreply 15January 12, 2022 10:24 PM

What kind of stories about her could a castmate be “feeding”?

by Anonymousreply 16January 12, 2022 10:38 PM

R13, this tracks. K. Jo has always been thirsty AF. I hope it wasn’t Janney or Pressly.

by Anonymousreply 17January 12, 2022 10:54 PM

I’m not an Allison Janney fan at all, but that doesn’t sound like her.

by Anonymousreply 18January 12, 2022 10:57 PM

Or maybe Faris is paranoid as fuck and they all just played along until they escorted her to the door.

by Anonymousreply 19January 12, 2022 11:57 PM

I don't really care what she has to say; I'm still angry about her leaving Mom without notice and fucking up the only show I actually made it a point to watch.

Of course she has to try to cover her ass.

by Anonymousreply 20January 13, 2022 12:04 AM

I was actually surprised how well the show did without her in its last season. Thankfully the show turned into a true ensemble show very early on, so losing her wasn't that devastating. And unlike United States of Al this show was actually funny.

by Anonymousreply 21January 13, 2022 12:45 PM

That's why I was so pissed off, R21. It was obvious that the writers were left scrambling in the first four or so episodes of the last (8th) season -- but once they got in the groove of writing the show without the Christy character, it was as good as it ever was. If she had given them any kind of notice and they had been given time to prepare, all the episodes could have been well written and it might not have been cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 22January 13, 2022 4:40 PM

I hope it wasn't Janney because I really like her. I also hope it wasn't Johnson because I thought she was great in the show, but it's obvious that she has an edge. But why would she be selling stories to the tabloids? She's not doing coke anymore, right? I never really cared for that Pressley gal and can absolutely see her pulling this kind of shit. She played a bitch really well on the show. Probably because she had a lot to draw upon in her real life.
