Did you get today’s word?
|by Anonymous||reply 1||January 11, 2022 2:52 AM|
I did. In four. How can something so simple and seldom take you hostage?! LOL.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||January 11, 2022 2:57 AM|
I’m hooked but also annoyed that you only get one play a day.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||January 11, 2022 2:59 AM|
|by Anonymous||reply 4||January 11, 2022 3:00 AM|
Got it in four tries! Now I want to do it more... And more than once a day.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||January 11, 2022 3:02 AM|
Do you want a hack to make it easier?
|by Anonymous||reply 6||January 11, 2022 3:05 AM|
The hack... words with five letters and multiple vowels.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||January 11, 2022 3:10 AM|
|by Anonymous||reply 8||January 11, 2022 3:19 AM|
I'm hooked, but disappointed only one play every 24 hours.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||January 11, 2022 3:44 AM|
I’m sure they will have a pay wall to play more often. I missed todays word.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||January 11, 2022 3:46 AM|
There are a few flaws in the set up. You should be able to enter a letter in whichever square youchoose, and not have to erase the whole word to start a new one.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||January 11, 2022 3:46 AM|
didn't get today's word. will try again tomorrow. thanks, OP!
|by Anonymous||reply 12||January 11, 2022 3:55 AM|
The guy who created Wordle wants no payment or reimbursement of any kind, choosing to keep it free of charge which is why he set it up on his own webpage. I can usually get the word in four tries, but I have a couple of friend who are like "Wow, today's word was REALLY difficult", making me doubt their vocabulary skills
|by Anonymous||reply 13||January 11, 2022 3:56 AM|
Got it in three tries. Said I was iimpressive!
|by Anonymous||reply 14||January 11, 2022 4:05 AM|
LOL... still working from home so it's a start the day with coffee and Wordle thing. But now I know today's word is up and I'm fighting temptation.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||January 11, 2022 5:23 AM|
it says that new word will be posted in about 2 1/2 hours...
|by Anonymous||reply 16||January 11, 2022 5:33 AM|
|by Anonymous||reply 17||January 11, 2022 7:40 AM|
Well NOW I am. Thanks a LOT, OP.
JK. I love you for showing me this.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||January 11, 2022 11:35 AM|
Completely hooked. Like others, wish I could play more than once a day. Maybe two or three times; any more than that and I'd be useless for anything else the rest of the day.
There is, however, an element of 'good guesses'. I've gotten a few words in two only because I had two or three letters and maybe one or two in the right square. From there I just "guessed" the next one correctly; it wasn't tactically brilliant.
My partner, who is also hooked, plays every day as well and we compare what we've done and why.
He's also hooked on the NYT 'Spelling Bee' and every day we each try to get the Pangram. That's as far as I go; I don't have the patience to find 25 or 30 other words.
Great fun in these crazy times.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||January 11, 2022 12:05 PM|
Four again this morning.... It is such simple fun. I guess that makes me a simple man after all!
|by Anonymous||reply 20||January 11, 2022 1:20 PM|
Or simpleton, for that matter.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||January 11, 2022 1:21 PM|
I got it in four. First time playing.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||January 11, 2022 1:44 PM|
I got it in four tries. It was also my first time playing. I'm glad you can play it only once a day.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||January 11, 2022 2:36 PM|
Four tries today. I’ve got it every time except the very first time I played.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||January 11, 2022 2:42 PM|
Four tries today. My first time. Can't wait to try again tomorrow.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||January 11, 2022 3:35 PM|
I got it in two today! 16 hours to go…
|by Anonymous||reply 26||January 11, 2022 3:36 PM|
^ You're goooood! How much was reason and how much was lucky guess?
|by Anonymous||reply 27||January 11, 2022 3:39 PM|
Probably lucky guess R27. I always start with the same word which contained 2 of the answer, one in the correct place. The answer (or my guess for it) just popped into my head while looking at it.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||January 11, 2022 4:00 PM|
I got in 3 this time!
|by Anonymous||reply 29||January 11, 2022 4:14 PM|
For practice between rounds...
|by Anonymous||reply 30||January 11, 2022 4:34 PM|
I needed four tires.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||January 11, 2022 8:49 PM|

|by Anonymous||reply 38||January 12, 2022 12:09 AM|

|by Anonymous||reply 39||January 12, 2022 12:37 AM|
r38 - mine was "white"
|by Anonymous||reply 40||January 12, 2022 1:01 AM|
r38, me too. I got it on one try, not because I'm clever, it's just what I'm always thinking.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||January 12, 2022 1:14 AM|
[R38] I also had drink
|by Anonymous||reply 42||January 12, 2022 1:18 AM|
Yes everyone gets the same! I'm on a 7 day win streak. I used to watch this game show network whenever I visited family who had a Dish called LINGO which was exactly this game.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||January 12, 2022 1:21 AM|
I got today's in 2 tries
|by Anonymous||reply 44||January 12, 2022 1:53 AM|

Another addiction for fat hoes to enjoy while gobbling down trash food.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||January 12, 2022 2:35 AM|
I like the one-game-a-day aspect of it. If I played it endlessly I’d get bored with it. And FYI, there’s a color-blind mode in the Settings area (you have to reset it each day). Thanks, Mr. Wardle!
|by Anonymous||reply 50||January 12, 2022 2:46 AM|
r49 i've been doing this on and off all day (well, the hello wordl version because it doesn't restrict how many times you do it) and I can assure you I haven't been gobbling down "trash food." i've had tea, an english muffin with a little bit of peanut butter and one of those little probiotic kefirs.
it's cold, so i'm about to have some dal mahkani and naan.

|by Anonymous||reply 54||January 12, 2022 7:45 AM|

|by Anonymous||reply 56||January 12, 2022 10:18 AM|
i love it!! thank you, DL - this game is right up my alley. i suck at scrabble and crosswords, but this? i got yesterday’s in two goes; today’s in three. all that time playing fallout paid off, i guess!? 🤷🏻

^ It's possible to have simple fun and discuss tips without telling everyone how you did. I fail to see what that achieves, unless it's an especially easy/difficult one and people want to compare with others.
|by Anonymous||reply 72||January 12, 2022 1:08 PM|
R72, It's possible to have a contrary opinion and keep it to yourself when it doesn't change anything and doesn't matter. I fail to see what doing otherwise achieves, except feeding some need to be sour and get attention.
I get the feeling this is triggering playground memories for you but you're feeling is right, no one wants to play with you.

|by Anonymous||reply 74||January 12, 2022 1:13 PM|

|by Anonymous||reply 79||January 12, 2022 1:21 PM|
Day 1: 2 tries
Day 2: 4 Tries
Yeah, I'm hooked.
To those asking, your first guess is a crap shoot and you hope you at least get a letter to work with. I've been lucky so far.
|by Anonymous||reply 80||January 12, 2022 1:21 PM|
Will someone spoil today’s word? You can put a spoiler alert before the answer.
|by Anonymous||reply 81||January 12, 2022 1:24 PM|
There is actually an app which is virtually identical - but - the creator in their wisdom has put an ad over the bottom row of the keyboard, making it inoperable. That one could be played over and over if they only got rid of that irritating ad, which I couldn’t do. I deleted it.
|by Anonymous||reply 82||January 12, 2022 1:26 PM|
i've been starting with the same word each time that i seem to get a good result with (not sharing). Seems to work well for me, got today's in 2 tries.
|by Anonymous||reply 83||January 12, 2022 1:32 PM|
First time, 3 tries. So it's always going to be a 5 letter word? Wonder if it would get boring pretty quick.
|by Anonymous||reply 84||January 12, 2022 1:39 PM|
The fact that it’s a fairly simple game and you can only play once per day is what stops it from being boring for me. Smart design.
|by Anonymous||reply 85||January 12, 2022 1:40 PM|
On the copycat version linked upthread, you can 1) play more than once a day and 2) you can change the word length.
|by Anonymous||reply 86||January 12, 2022 1:42 PM|
I've been playing the copycat version for too long today. I need to get a grip.
|by Anonymous||reply 87||January 12, 2022 1:48 PM|
lol that was me yesterday r87
|by Anonymous||reply 88||January 12, 2022 1:52 PM|
For me that's the beauty of the original, R87... one and done or I'd be at it all day too. Today was spoiled for me because the word was revealed by The Times due to global freak outs over the spelling... they used the American spelling of the word, which, of course, wasn't intuitive to any country that uses British spelling. The inventor is Welsh, living in NYC. Nothing's ever simple. (I wonder, if you study English in France or Spain or China, which version of English they teach?) I was pissed off at The Times. They could have told the story without blowing up the word. Anyway, I bet it will be long time before they use a word with that combination of letters again.
|by Anonymous||reply 89||January 12, 2022 1:53 PM|
I like the clean design of the original and the one per day limit. Don’t need another thing to binge on.
|by Anonymous||reply 90||January 12, 2022 2:06 PM|
HEAD'S - UP
There's no way OP's post wasn't a shill/marketing post. It fucking happens here more and more. This one is too obvious. I'm a copywriter, I have never heard of this service and over the last 72 hours, people on Facebook and my Twitter feed, and one on Instagram have all been asking "what's this Wordle thing I've been hearing about?"
No way that's a coincidence. The Datalounge doesn't just have politically paid shills here, (like the ones who keep posting the Trump investigation stuff and parroting daily DNC talking points. ....not that I don't support the news behind those messages), but with the deluge of women, trans/queer kids and the over-60 crowd who have found and settled the site in recent years, we've had more and more of these types of threads. When you've been around here 20 years, you tend to know. This thread is one of them.
So, dismiss everything you've read here about this site/product whatever it is. It's a plant.
|by Anonymous||reply 91||January 12, 2022 2:08 PM|

I’ve been playing with my cousins since last week, when it was covered in the news (something like the NYT, not a “paid shill” service). Just because you’re behind the curve doesn’t make this post a plant.
|by Anonymous||reply 94||January 12, 2022 2:12 PM|
What color is it if the same letter appears twice.
Like let's say the word is razor. If you try rants, the "r" would be correct but also "incorrect"
|by Anonymous||reply 95||January 12, 2022 2:14 PM|
I havent seen it mark anything different if the same letter is used twice in the word
|by Anonymous||reply 96||January 12, 2022 2:17 PM|
So it lies and throws you off.
|by Anonymous||reply 97||January 12, 2022 2:26 PM|
R95 it only shows the letter once for each time you guess it, so if a word uses the same letter twice, you have to input it twice for both to show. The first time I played, the word had one letter twice. It threw me off as I was expecting both to show up from me guessing it once. Hope I explained this correctly.
R91 needs to get out for some fresh air. No one is sending paid shills to datalounge to promote a game that isn’t making the creator any money. I know people who have been paying this for weeks.

The word is Peels
You guess Mates
You’re going to see one yellow e, meaning it’s in the word but not in the correct spot.
You have to guess a word with two e’s for both of them to show.

R99 I saw a similar online article about that particular guy's app. One of his excuses was "there was nothing wrong because basically *everyone* copies popular apps, games, etc".
|by Anonymous||reply 104||January 12, 2022 3:07 PM|
What a quick little fix. I played yesterday and got the word on my second try. I played today and got it on the third try. Its strange, but it makes you feel like you're opening your mind to the universe and a word just pops in.
|by Anonymous||reply 105||January 12, 2022 3:11 PM|
The guy in R104’s article is a real gem. A shining example of why people hate the tech industry.
|by Anonymous||reply 106||January 12, 2022 3:14 PM|
Who really cares if OP posted about this game in order to promote it? It doesn't install malware and it's fun, so I'm glad to know about it.
|by Anonymous||reply 107||January 12, 2022 3:15 PM|
I did nothing of the kind. It was just fun. Occasionally something just nice happens and for once on here it happened from me.
I don't really care what some bitter type like R91 says except that lately I am starting to care more about how cynical and suspicious and divided we all are, everywhere, not just here. So I pushed back to clarify, I am not some shill. Sometimes what you see is only what you're seeing and there's no motivation except I thought it was fun. And I am glad most others do too.
|by Anonymous||reply 108||January 12, 2022 3:19 PM|
The creator hasn’t monetized it, so there is nothing to promote. That’s what makes R91’s post so laughable.
BTW after getting it on the second guess yesterday, it took me all 6 tries today and I had the second and last two letters in their correct spots on my 3rd guess.
|by Anonymous||reply 109||January 12, 2022 3:21 PM|
And I'm glad you sent it our way, OP/R108. I've enjoyed it on the two occasions I've done it.

|by Anonymous||reply 111||January 12, 2022 3:37 PM|
FYI - this is currently trending worldwide because of today's word. Brits are angry with the spelling.
|by Anonymous||reply 112||January 12, 2022 3:58 PM|
^ I use British spelling but you have to be conscious of the fact that, when you're doing things like this, most will use American spelling by default.
|by Anonymous||reply 113||January 12, 2022 4:01 PM|
I don't understand why people are angry. The British spelling of the word is 6 letters so it wouldn't work in the context of the game.
|by Anonymous||reply 114||January 12, 2022 4:05 PM|
I think that's their point; the word wouldn't have occurred to them so naturally as an option as it would to Americans.
|by Anonymous||reply 115||January 12, 2022 4:09 PM|
So does that mean the guy who created it (who is from Wales but lives in Brooklyn) should have removed any word that is spelled different in the two countries? He created it for is partner, it wasn't intended to go viral like it has. People should save their outrage for something that matters.
|by Anonymous||reply 116||January 12, 2022 4:35 PM|
I think it's like any bug in tech.... sometimes you find out once it shows up. True it isn't a big deal, but social media is on the job anyway....
|by Anonymous||reply 117||January 12, 2022 4:37 PM|
Is his partner a boy, a girl or an enby?
For the record, I just made up “enby” and I’d like credit in the OED when it enters the lexicon.
|by Anonymous||reply 118||January 12, 2022 4:40 PM|
It did throw me off for a bit. Logically, the word I had in mind seemed to be the best bet. I am also aware the creator is a Brit, but didn't know he lived in NYC. I questioned whether he would use the american spelling. But I went with it because few other words made sense based on my first two guesses.
|by Anonymous||reply 119||January 12, 2022 4:53 PM|
Guessed it in three tries but it took me awhile. I'm not good at word games and sometimes it comes to me by not thinking about it rather than sitting there racking my brain to solve the puzzle.
|by Anonymous||reply 120||January 12, 2022 5:05 PM|
Wordle is such a simple idea and it is really bringing people together - people discussing their strategies, what words they use to start with, how their brains work differently.
Although I did see an argument between two academic men over what word is most effective to start with, whether vowels or the most common consonants are the most useful to work out the word.
|by Anonymous||reply 121||January 12, 2022 6:14 PM|
R121, I read something like that in The Times this morning, ranking vowels vs. common consonants, vs. frequency of position of a letter within a specific word, drawing in the Official Scrabble dictionary. It was fascinating and entertaining for how the wild fire spread. I do use a couple words to start the process now: audio, adieu or, sometimes, skate. It kills a bit of the luck buzz but ups the challenge of sorting out the clues.
|by Anonymous||reply 122||January 12, 2022 6:19 PM|
I had never heard of it before reading about it here last night. I didn't really get it at first and screwed up before I understood what was going on. Today, I got it in three!

For some reason I don’t like to go in with a strategy, I just pick a five letter word that’s on my mind on the day.

^ Not all seven were negative, but how strange that you felt the need to check. Some were negative, one thanked OP for starting this thread and a couple of others were about the fact that today's word has a different spelling on whether you're in the UK or the US.
|by Anonymous||reply 132||January 12, 2022 8:28 PM|
Also, how would posting negative comments be a reflection on one's intellectual insecurity?

"Enby" for NB or non-binary was coined long before now.

Maybe it's good to just randomly type letters on the first two tries to get as many correct letters and then work from there.
|by Anonymous||reply 140||January 12, 2022 9:04 PM|
I believe it’s the same word for everyone, so it might be courteous not to talk or hint about the specific word given that we’re all in different time zones :-)

|by Anonymous||reply 149||January 13, 2022 1:08 PM|
Today’s was the longest I’ve spent sitting and trying to come up with guesses.
|by Anonymous||reply 150||January 13, 2022 1:18 PM|
Me too - and then it was a total guess.... had no confidence til it worked.
|by Anonymous||reply 151||January 13, 2022 1:19 PM|

|by Anonymous||reply 153||January 13, 2022 1:39 PM|

|by Anonymous||reply 154||January 13, 2022 1:47 PM|
Got today's word in three tries - a personal best!
|by Anonymous||reply 155||January 13, 2022 2:34 PM|
SPOILERS . . . .
I didn't know letters can be repeated.
|by Anonymous||reply 156||January 13, 2022 2:48 PM|
No, you find that out the hard way!
|by Anonymous||reply 157||January 13, 2022 2:58 PM|
I'd forgotten that myself, R156, so it did take me that little bit longer today.
|by Anonymous||reply 158||January 13, 2022 3:05 PM|
I got it in 3 tries, but the break between #2 and #3 took forever. Then I remembered the posts about repeating letters. The annoying thing is I got 3 letters on the first try. They were yellow and I used them in the same spots for #2 because I forgot that yellow means the letters are right but in the wrong places. I felt like such an idiot, wasting an attempt.
|by Anonymous||reply 159||January 13, 2022 3:08 PM|
Also a reminder to not read this thread until I complete the day's puzzle. Don't want any hints shared wittingly or unwittingly. I'm doing them in the morning on the east coast.
|by Anonymous||reply 160||January 13, 2022 3:12 PM|
I did the trick where you use a high vowel first word and then sacrifice what you got right with an alternate vowels or common consonant second word, hoping to nail it in three. It didn't really help but I think that is more down to the actual word today than the process.
R160, me too. I get up, get my coffee, feel glum and sour and then I remember: Wordle! And I perk right up. It's the jolt I need to face my early January pandemic day.
|by Anonymous||reply 161||January 13, 2022 3:15 PM|
Today’s was tough. I had the first and 4th letters on my second try and it took me to 5 to figure out the word. I think today was more luck than anything.
|by Anonymous||reply 162||January 13, 2022 3:35 PM|
There’s a website that gives the answers.
|by Anonymous||reply 163||January 13, 2022 4:06 PM|
I use BARON because it gives me 2 vowels. But WHITE could be good. Thanks.
It's been fun.

I do my Wordle with my coffee too. Perfect way to start my day.
|by Anonymous||reply 167||January 13, 2022 8:40 PM|
I just solved the puzzle at midnight thinking I could get the next day’s puzzle right after. But now it says I can’t play for 24 hours. WTF? Where is today’s puzzle? Why can’t I play?
|by Anonymous||reply 168||January 14, 2022 8:20 AM|
I've been consistently guessing within 3-4 tries, but I'm having fun with the fact that I can play again on a different device and just enter the correct answer so that my stats on the second device look impossibly good. Still waiting for the friend I share the second stats with to figure it out. :)

|by Anonymous||reply 175||January 14, 2022 1:38 PM|
Dammit, I jinxed myself--I got in in 6 tries just now. In fairness though, I had 3 letters in place and there are lots of words with that combo.
|by Anonymous||reply 176||January 14, 2022 1:40 PM|
ALIEN is another good word to use for the first guess. You use most of the vowels and two common consonants.
|by Anonymous||reply 177||January 14, 2022 3:17 PM|
Today was a tough. I got stuck with the first 3 letters right. I just couldn't come up legit words to even be wrong. Once the 4th letter came, then it was a matter of 2 tries to get the 5th letter.
I was ready to quit and come here to lament.
|by Anonymous||reply 178||January 14, 2022 3:34 PM|
ALIEN is a very good word.
Seems outside the vowels the most commonly appearing consonants are R, T, N, S, L, and C. I another source that said RETSINA (which wouldn't work in Wordle) also nails the most frequently occurring letters.
So ALIEN has everything but the T in retsina. STORY might be a good second word - gets you the O & the Y and uses the T. I play a strategy now of a high vowel first entry and then a consonant killer for the second word, hoping if an answer doesn't emerge I can get it in three with reason and process of elimination.
And on that note I note I didn't get it in six this morning despite everything!
|by Anonymous||reply 179||January 14, 2022 3:56 PM|
The best thing I do is write the alphabet on a pad, cross out eliminated letters and write potential solutions. I’m also really strategic with consonants.
I usually complete in in 2 or 3 attempts.
|by Anonymous||reply 180||January 14, 2022 4:01 PM|
Got it on my third try today!!
|by Anonymous||reply 181||January 14, 2022 5:06 PM|
Good alternative to NYT Spelling Bee -- he's been annoying me lately with what he decides is and isn't an actual word.
If you do word puzzles a lot Wordle isn't all that hard, though I almost screwed up the first time because I didn't realize the answer wasn't always five unique letters, e.g., that you could have a word like "Tatty"
|by Anonymous||reply 182||January 14, 2022 5:47 PM|
I use IOTAS as my first word. Then depending on what I get, I work in E, U, R, and N.
|by Anonymous||reply 183||January 14, 2022 6:06 PM|
Can the word be a plural?
|by Anonymous||reply 184||January 14, 2022 6:30 PM|
yes it can
|by Anonymous||reply 185||January 14, 2022 6:35 PM|
Thanks, OP. I'm hooked.

|by Anonymous||reply 187||January 14, 2022 7:02 PM|
I was on the last line today (Jan. 14) and entered a legitimate, fairly common word that used my four correct letters in the correct boxes, but my word was not Wordle's word. So I lost. I'm not mad about it, but shouldn't there only be ONE correct answer? Or isn't that possible, given the format of the game?
|by Anonymous||reply 188||January 14, 2022 7:12 PM|
What about the fifth letter?
|by Anonymous||reply 189||January 14, 2022 7:16 PM|
I got today's on the second round
|by Anonymous||reply 190||January 14, 2022 7:16 PM|
I must be a moron. No luck.
|by Anonymous||reply 191||January 14, 2022 7:38 PM|
^ You'll hit your stride, R191. I know it can be hard to play around with strategies when you're limited to one go a day, but just take your time (as many here seem to do) and maybe think about some of the strategies people have mentioned upthread (e.g. vowel-heavy first word, consonant-heavy second word).
|by Anonymous||reply 192||January 14, 2022 7:41 PM|
Yes to R192, and remember that even though the "N" turned up green as the second letter, it can also be the fifth letter too.
|by Anonymous||reply 193||January 14, 2022 8:12 PM|
Geez I'm completely stuck, I got 4 correct letters in the wrong space. I feel stupid.
|by Anonymous||reply 194||January 14, 2022 9:49 PM|
[quote] Uh, [R168]? You know it's not midnight everywhere, right?
You’re an idiot. You do realize the game resets at midnight with a new word, right? If you solve your puzzle at 12:00 or 12:01, you do not get the next puzzle and have to wait a whole OTHER 24 hours. I solved 1/13’s puzzle at midnight and did not get today’s 1/14 puzzle. It said I have to wait 24 hours until I get another puzzle.
So basically I’m going from 1/13 to 1/15. It’s a glitch in the system. Try it tonight. Keep your puzzle open and solve it after midnight. Then you have to skip a day without playing.

|by Anonymous||reply 257||January 17, 2022 1:49 PM|
I got this one in four, but honestly if you aren't British (or a fan of a certain franchise) would you even know what this word was?
|by Anonymous||reply 258||January 17, 2022 1:51 PM|

|by Anonymous||reply 264||January 17, 2022 4:11 PM|
Me too. But I am not a native speaker.
|by Anonymous||reply 265||January 17, 2022 4:18 PM|
Took all six today
Wordle 212 6/6
|by Anonymous||reply 266||January 17, 2022 4:19 PM|
r258. I thought the same. For me as non native speaker it was a desperate attempt, because there was no other legit word I could find matching the three letters I already got. I was really surprised, that I was right.
|by Anonymous||reply 267||January 17, 2022 4:26 PM|
Maybe it was a make good for the great international outrage over using the American spelling of favor.
So far as I am concerned, if it qualifies for Scrabble (and today's word does) fair play to Wordle.

I'm glad everyone has so much extra time on their hands.
|by Anonymous||reply 269||January 17, 2022 4:44 PM|
Yes, I have the extreme luxury of five minutes in the morning to play Wordle while I drink my coffee.

[quote]I'm glad everyone has so much extra time on their hands.
I'm retired. I have plenty of time.
|by Anonymous||reply 271||January 17, 2022 4:52 PM|
I don't think R269 actually means that.

Got it in 3 today
Wordle 212 3/6
⬜⬜⬜🟨⬜ ⬜🟨🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
|by Anonymous||reply 274||January 17, 2022 5:15 PM|
Being a J.R.R. fan, I got it in 2 attempts
|by Anonymous||reply 275||January 17, 2022 5:17 PM|
r275 After you read all our hints probably...
|by Anonymous||reply 276||January 17, 2022 7:23 PM|
You would think right. But by sheer luck, my 1st word was OST composer of aforementioned's movie adaptations
|by Anonymous||reply 277||January 17, 2022 8:20 PM|
So which is more important: having a long winning streak, or consistently winning after 2-3 tries instead of 5-6?
|by Anonymous||reply 278||January 17, 2022 10:48 PM|
I think a long winning streak. There's so much random in working out the puzzle... you may or may not pump in a word that gains you any ground in terms of valuable letters. It isn't like it's timed. And funnily after an easy start I don't say it's difficult but it isn't a snap every time, either.
|by Anonymous||reply 279||January 17, 2022 10:54 PM|
The newest is really a hard thing.
|by Anonymous||reply 280||January 17, 2022 11:10 PM|
I've occasionally gotten it on the 3rd try and a couple of times it took me 5 tries. But the 4th try is my sweet spot. I almost always get it on the 4th try. I usually waste my first two attempts with ALIEN and ROUST trying to get the vowels and common consonants. I think I'll try a different strategy tomorrow to see if that improves my chances.
|by Anonymous||reply 281||January 17, 2022 11:21 PM|
I always start with WHORE and COCKS.
|by Anonymous||reply 282||January 18, 2022 12:02 AM|
r282. What a waste of letters.
|by Anonymous||reply 283||January 18, 2022 12:15 AM|
My third word is always PENIS or PUSSY to use up those vowels.
|by Anonymous||reply 284||January 18, 2022 12:21 AM|
R233, for 1/17:
Solved in ONE!
Had three letters with initial word, one of them in the correct place.
|by Anonymous||reply 285||January 18, 2022 12:44 AM|
You mean solved in two.
|by Anonymous||reply 286||January 18, 2022 12:47 AM|
I solved it in six on my first try at playing this game. Does that mean I'm a genius?
|by Anonymous||reply 287||January 18, 2022 12:52 AM|
Can you only do one a day?
|by Anonymous||reply 288||January 18, 2022 12:53 AM|
R286, I needed one word as the clue. My second word was the correct answer. Nobody is ever going to randomly write down the day's word in the top line. But one or two, pretty cool, I think.
|by Anonymous||reply 289||January 18, 2022 12:58 AM|
^^ I got it on the FIRST word a few weeks ago — dumb luck, but there you go.
|by Anonymous||reply 290||January 18, 2022 1:07 AM|
I always get it on the first word.
|by Anonymous||reply 291||January 18, 2022 1:08 AM|
I usually start with LADEN. Lots of common letters in there.
|by Anonymous||reply 292||January 18, 2022 1:09 AM|
I start with my son’s name, JADEN.
|by Anonymous||reply 293||January 18, 2022 1:11 AM|
R288, see R30.
|by Anonymous||reply 294||January 18, 2022 1:16 AM|
I have no idea how I got todays in three. I don't think I even knew it was a word.
|by Anonymous||reply 295||January 18, 2022 1:19 AM|
Haha me too R295. I introduced this game yesterday to my brother and he got todays word in two tries. Not bad. I got it in three and had to google first to make sure it was a word.
|by Anonymous||reply 296||January 18, 2022 1:25 AM|
I would have had it in 2 but I was thinking beach instead of J.R.R.
|by Anonymous||reply 297||January 18, 2022 1:37 AM|
Stand corrected. Kudos, r290!
Sure, Jan, r291.
|by Anonymous||reply 298||January 18, 2022 3:39 AM|
Today’s is a tough one.
|by Anonymous||reply 299||January 18, 2022 5:13 AM|
Given the nature of the game, I don't see why one day's puzzle would be tougher than another's. Unless the answer is a word that's obscure or even unknown to most people?
|by Anonymous||reply 300||January 18, 2022 5:50 AM|
Today I cut it close...took 5 tries.
I would say today's is harder than usual because it's a word that would garner high points in Scrabble. The previous few had a few vowels and "common" consonants.
|by Anonymous||reply 301||January 18, 2022 6:41 AM|
No hints, r301! Why did you post that?
Now players who know Scrabble have a heads-up but less satisfaction in solving the puzzle. Thanks.
|by Anonymous||reply 302||January 18, 2022 10:39 AM|
R302 here. Got it in Line 2 (I was pretty confident).
Would I have chosen my first word without r301?
No. So there you go.
|by Anonymous||reply 303||January 18, 2022 10:50 AM|
I expect a lawsuit from the creators of LINGO any day now. Complete ripoff....
|by Anonymous||reply 304||January 18, 2022 10:58 AM|
Ugh, I didn't get todays. I got the first three letters on the second guess, but wasn't able to guess the correct word. Damn.
|by Anonymous||reply 305||January 18, 2022 2:18 PM|
It took me 4 tries.
|by Anonymous||reply 306||January 18, 2022 2:33 PM|
Five attempts. My first word didn't give me any letters.
|by Anonymous||reply 307||January 18, 2022 2:47 PM|
The solution was up far before 00.00 UTC at the website with the daily solution. I saw it by accident, what a disappointment. But anyway, I would have been not able to guess this word.
|by Anonymous||reply 308||January 18, 2022 3:43 PM|
Ooops, I was trying to explain to R300 how one day's word can vary in difficulty from another day's word....
|by Anonymous||reply 309||January 18, 2022 3:44 PM|
Does everyone get the same word each day?
As if by...proxy?
|by Anonymous||reply 310||January 18, 2022 3:48 PM|
I was quite stumped by the vowel situation but I did process of elimination after try three and did get it in four. Tricky one, though.
|by Anonymous||reply 311||January 18, 2022 4:12 PM|
r310. What part of NO HINTS did you miss?
And yes, it is the same word for everyone. It helps to read the complete thread anyway.
|by Anonymous||reply 312||January 18, 2022 4:25 PM|
I got it in three but admit that what the asshole above said influenced my first word.
|by Anonymous||reply 313||January 18, 2022 6:17 PM|
Read the thread after you complete the day's word. Simple solution.
It took me 6 tries today. Was a bit worried about the streak.
|by Anonymous||reply 314||January 18, 2022 7:09 PM|
First time I got zero letters in my first guess. Got lucky with my 2nd and got it in 4.
|by Anonymous||reply 315||January 18, 2022 7:11 PM|
R314, Yes, I actually figured that out. Didn't realize at first.
|by Anonymous||reply 316||January 18, 2022 7:16 PM|
It took me every try today but I finally got it. I did not read this thread until after. The thing I like is you know it has to be solvable. You just have to try harder.
|by Anonymous||reply 317||January 18, 2022 7:36 PM|
This is why starting with ADIEU is a good idea. It instantly places or rules out four of the five vowels. For today, it tells you that (or at least implies) that you’re stuck with O and either Y or a three consonant cluster, like TCH.
|by Anonymous||reply 318||January 18, 2022 7:39 PM|
today was my 15th puzzle and the first one that I didn't get. I had most of the letters by the 3rd attempt but there were just too many words that could be made with them.
|by Anonymous||reply 319||January 18, 2022 7:44 PM|
I got it in 4 tries, but have been avoiding this thread til solve it
|by Anonymous||reply 320||January 18, 2022 7:52 PM|
I never check the thread until I've done it.
|by Anonymous||reply 321||January 18, 2022 7:53 PM|
What was today's word? Couldn't solve it
|by Anonymous||reply 322||January 18, 2022 10:27 PM|
My first one I got in three tries, the second and third in four—I'm getting worse.
|by Anonymous||reply 323||January 18, 2022 10:30 PM|
Today’s word was Turtle. 🐢
|by Anonymous||reply 324||January 18, 2022 11:09 PM|
I am proud, so really proud. Needed three as a non native speaker. Thanks to ADIEU and my secret second try. This is really great fun and makes your brain work.
Curious. How many of you are also second language speakers?
|by Anonymous||reply 325||January 18, 2022 11:38 PM|
r318. Thanks to you. It also works perfect for the German version I played today for the first time. Three strikes only!
|by Anonymous||reply 326||January 19, 2022 12:01 AM|
Today’s was hard. Had to use 6 tries. I guess no points for getting it on the first try.
|by Anonymous||reply 327||January 19, 2022 8:09 AM|
I got it in 5 tries this time, I couldn't figure out yesterday's word at all.
|by Anonymous||reply 328||January 19, 2022 8:20 AM|
Yesterday's words was PROXY.
I got today's in 3 tries, which has become my average.
|by Anonymous||reply 329||January 19, 2022 11:33 AM|
1/19 = Line 3 correct! With 1 letter from Line 1, that in the right spot. (Line 2 just eliminated 4 more letters.)
(I considered the correct word for Line 2, but chose another, obviously.)
|by Anonymous||reply 330||January 19, 2022 11:42 AM|
On third try (first try counts, kiddos).
|by Anonymous||reply 331||January 19, 2022 12:32 PM|
Everybody said yesterday's was hard, and everyone's saying today's is easy. But I got both in 4 tries. I didn't think today's was that easy, but then again, I took somebody's advice and started with "adieu," which threw me way the hell off by not giving me any leads on the consonants. Never again.
|by Anonymous||reply 332||January 19, 2022 12:41 PM|
r332. It works, your second guess should in this case then be a word without the vowels from ADIEU which contains four consonants and the missing vowel. So I got it with three.
I'll tell you tomorrow, how I did it.
|by Anonymous||reply 333||January 19, 2022 12:56 PM|
Exactly the same for me, R333!
|by Anonymous||reply 334||January 19, 2022 12:59 PM|
I started with ADIEU also. My 2nd word set it up for me.

How do you upload your grid photo? When I do mine I get a horizontal line. Though am on desktop not mobile.
Took me to five. I find I get hung up when I have reasoned it through to two similar choices... I always tend to pick the one it isn't, but that's just luck.
|by Anonymous||reply 336||January 19, 2022 1:07 PM|
Third line today.

|by Anonymous||reply 339||January 19, 2022 1:31 PM|
r344. I am curious what your third word was. Because I could not find a word starting with another letter then the solution.
Please post tomorrow!
|by Anonymous||reply 340||January 19, 2022 1:31 PM|
Sorry. Meant r335
|by Anonymous||reply 341||January 19, 2022 1:33 PM|
Third for me. Wordle says that's "impressive" -- yesterday took me 4 tries, which was "splendid".
|by Anonymous||reply 342||January 19, 2022 1:37 PM|
In all instances I prefer audio as my first word only because I find it easier to imagine/place an e just looking at the screen, though arguably the same logic applies to the u. Lately I've taken to writing out the alphabet on a scrap of paper and crossing out the used letters... I find cross checking that the word leaps out at me.

I think the beauty of the game is you can't OD on it. One game a day and you wait for the next. Otherwise I could see binging it and bored very quickly.
|by Anonymous||reply 345||January 19, 2022 1:42 PM|
I enjoy the game but confess I am at a loss to understand the little gray squares folks have posted here.
|by Anonymous||reply 346||January 19, 2022 1:57 PM|
I can't believe I got today's word in two guesses.
Curious what are people's go to words to get through all the vowels early? I start with YOURS or PIANO or IDEAS.
|by Anonymous||reply 347||January 19, 2022 2:00 PM|
ALIEN and ROUST will get you through all five vowels and the common consonants L, N, R, S, T. But you will throw away your first two chances.

|by Anonymous||reply 351||January 19, 2022 2:52 PM|
Got it on my 3rd attempt just now.
Tried ADIEU for the 1st attempt then reverted to the Wheel of Fortune style of R,S,T,L,N...
Then my go to letters are C,P and M
|by Anonymous||reply 352||January 19, 2022 3:02 PM|
4 tries, which wasn't so bad considering I got zero letters in my first line. That was a first.
I'm going against the grain and using different first words daily. Much more thrilling.
|by Anonymous||reply 353||January 19, 2022 3:22 PM|
R341, I put 'joint'.
|by Anonymous||reply 354||January 19, 2022 3:40 PM|
I'm 9 for 9, on that winning streak, lol. Todays word I got in four tries but it was interesting how the first attempt I guessed the last letter, second I got the two last letters, third I got the three last letters, and then finally saw it. The thrill is over too fast but its a nice way to get your brain moving in the morning.
|by Anonymous||reply 355||January 19, 2022 3:45 PM|

paste the grid here, but hit return at the end of every line. Otherwise pretty sure it pastes the whole thing horizontally.
