What does a heart attack feel like?
Guys, can anyone tell me from experience what does a heart attack feel like?
Earlier today I was painting my counters when I got this strong, sharp pain in the heart area - the whole left side, from front to back. Like a really strong and painful spasm. I didn't faint or anything, just had to stop working and lie down.
The pain persists for several hours now, but it's duller, like a cramped muscle - a heavy, pulling sensation. I also feel very weak and nauseous. I won't be able to go to a doc before tomorrow. Could this be a heart attack? It gets worse when I move. I drank a lot yesterday. I'm 41.

Do they have Google where you are, OP?

Yes I googled the symptoms and it says a HA can feel like anything, even toothache. So I wanted to hear from someone who's experienced it.

Go to the ER as the above posters have mentioned. Hopefully it is just a muscle spasm in your chest or back muscles but best to be sure. Good luck, OP!

If you can't get to the ER or a doctor take one aspirin for now and stay relaxed.

I agree you should go to the ER. They should see you immediately, things like that are prioritized.
Let us know how you make out. Take care, OP.

OP, at the ER, they will check your blood level of troponin, a protein that indicates heart damage.
If you take large amounts of biotin for some reason, tell them—it can screw with your troponin level and interfere with a heart attack diagnosis.
Chest pain is not something with which you fuck around and find out. Delay can cause serious damage. Or, you know, death.

OP you may be having angina instead of a heart attack. Regardless, it's a red flag that you may have heart or coronary issue. I had similar symptoms five years ago and it was angina due to an artery that was 90% blocked. I ended up getting a stent inserted. I never had an actual heart attack. It's best to be sedate until you get checked up.

OP, you pulled a muscle in your back, thus the spasm. It's notorious for being felt it all around the side, front to back, and up to the neck at times. Quite general at first.
Lie in a warm tub and then apply ice. But don't fill the tub too much, just in case.
Also, take an aspirin and a couple acetaminophen.
Oh, you also had/are having a heart attack. No big deal.

I had a major heart attack, my cardiologist tells me a 10 on a scale of 1-10. I had been working at home all morning. I had a lot on my plate that day so stress was involved. I had just wrapped up work on several contracts when I broke into a weird, heavy sweat. It came on in a split second and it was drenching. It was a cool day and the house was not hot at all. That was the first warning sign. I felt odd, a bit off, confused. I called my partner who told me to go lay down. I didn't. Good thing because I'd have died. Instead, I called 911, took a quick shower and put on clean clothing. I didn't want paramedics meeting anything but a 'fresh' me. I met them at the mailbox and they did a check on my vitals, wanted to know why I was still walking around and trying to work and then hauled me away. By that time I had nausea and the most severe back pains I'd ever felt. The pain was between my shoulder blades and very intense. It was only a 10 minute drive to the hospital but I started to die in that ambulance, I left my body and pulled myself back. They had me chew 3 baby aspirin and started an IV. Looking back, I had NO IDEA I was having a heart attack. I think if I'd realized it I may have stressed, panicked and died. I was young but I smoked 2+ packs of cigarettes a day. I had stents put in that day. The cardiologist later asked me how I was even able to climb a flight of stairs, that's how fucked up I was. My major arteries were blocked and I had only one major artery left open and pumping at 15%. I'm told I was lucky to have survived with no scarring or permanent damage. I spent the next 2 weeks in the ICU. I felt odd because I was surrounded by very old people. It was touch and go I guess. I'm fine now. I have bad genes, The doc says I could have spent my life grazing in a field of greens and still had a heart attack because I have horrible cholesterol (thanks mom and dad). The cigarettes were the frosting on all that.

How old were you when this happened, R39?
I’m glad you’re okay now.

BTW, heart attacks are individual. (I'm R39). The symptoms, how one feels, can be differing between males and females. When you are feeling up to it, look up heart attack symptoms.
R40, I was in my early 40s when this happened. I'm fine these days. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

[quote]Painting your counters?!?!?!
I've painted my counters. There are kits and specific paints that work very well.
If you have nasty '70s Formica and can't afford to get it replaced right now, I recommend it.

I’ve had numerous experiences where it felt like a heart attack - based on Google descriptions. It never was. Twice I got stuck in the ER for hours and eventually told its likely muscular. Now with the Covid mess, ERs are a nightmare. I would have to be pretty sure it was before I went.

If you're having the described symptoms in your late forties or older you should assume it's a heart attack.

It's always better to wait a few days. Just get a lot of rest. But you'll feel better if you finish your project first.

A Heart attack will usually start with pain in an adjacent area. The jaw, the neck, or the right or left arm Typically, you are out of breath sweating, cold or clammy. Chest pains are rarely a heart attack as the pain usually radiates elswhere first. If you think you are having a heart attack, call 911 .

Could be angina though. Best to let the doctors decide.
