surprised nobody in Duran Duran turned out to be gay
Warren Cuccurullo is no stranger to men.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 24, 2021 1:43 AM |
This should've been a poll.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 24, 2021 1:46 AM |
The Reflex - because I was in 9th grade, and first heard it at a club in Chicago while doing cocaine. I was let into the club without I.D. because I was with an "older" guy (probably only about 24, but he seemed so old at the time). I fell in love with Duran Duran that night - not knowing they had been huge for several years.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 24, 2021 1:48 AM |
Ordinary World to me is different from all their other songs, I didn't realize it was even them when I first heard it.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 24, 2021 1:58 AM |
LOL - I literally was JUST thinking about this as a thread topic idea, because I cannot believe Nick Rhodes is not gay.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 24, 2021 2:16 AM |
does anyone know who played the cross dressing man in Come Undone?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 24, 2021 2:27 AM |
I love every single song on their new album... they're so catchy.
Of all time, I probably love "The Man Who Stole A Leopard" the most.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 24, 2021 2:41 AM |
What's your favorite Duran Duran bop?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 24, 2021 2:43 AM |
I'm the only one that loved "Skin Divers" I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 24, 2021 2:50 AM |
Notorious
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 24, 2021 2:53 AM |
Rio, hands down. It’s exuberant and chaotic and innocently sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 24, 2021 3:08 AM |
A View to a Kill.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 24, 2021 3:10 AM |
That would be my No.2, R18.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 24, 2021 3:13 AM |
Hungry Like the Wolf
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 24, 2021 3:13 AM |
Their first is one of their best: Planet Earth
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 24, 2021 3:16 AM |
"Seven and the Ragged Tiger" had the strongest singles run of any of their albums:
1. "Union of the Snake"
2. "New Moon on Monday"
3. "The Reflex"
Unfuckwithable.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 24, 2021 3:17 AM |
I'm with you, R16 -- "Rio" is a fantastic pop song. It defined an era of music. It's perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 24, 2021 3:18 AM |
Re: Nick Rhodes - I know someone has chimed in more than once to claim that at one point Nick Rhodes was having a fling with a male rock star. I want to say it was someone from Motley Crue. Anyone else remember that bit of gossip?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 24, 2021 3:35 AM |
[quote] I want to say it was someone from Motley Crue.
That would be a nasty combination.
I've read that Nick, despite his refined exterior, actually has a coarse sense of humor.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 24, 2021 3:37 AM |
"New Religion" was never a single, but it was my favorite track off the "Rio" album:
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 24, 2021 3:39 AM |
R28, see R18
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 24, 2021 3:41 AM |
I love "Girl Panic!", but not a fan of the official video (ten minutes, only half of it is the song), so here's a non-video version:
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 24, 2021 3:42 AM |
R29, why do you refer R28 to R18 when the question posed by OP is "What's your favorite Duran Duran song?"
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 24, 2021 3:43 AM |
Whichever one was playing in the car when I shot my…I mean…when that bushy haired man shot my kids.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 24, 2021 3:55 AM |
The Reflex for me. So many memories of 8th grade!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 24, 2021 4:01 AM |
So many of my favorites have been mentioned already but I really love "None of the Above" fro the brilliant Wedding Album:
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 24, 2021 4:09 AM |
[quote] "None of the Above"
That should've been a choice in the poll along with "Other (Please Specify)".
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 24, 2021 4:10 AM |
It's R34 again. I also love DD's rendition of "Perfect day" from the Thank You album:
"You're gonna reap just what you sew..."
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 24, 2021 4:13 AM |
None. I LOATHE music from the 1980's.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 24, 2021 4:17 AM |
R37, not only would we never get along, the fact that you still clicked into this thread and decided to post that just makes you a terrible self-centered person.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 24, 2021 4:37 AM |
R37, you're so special. Can I touch you?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 24, 2021 4:38 AM |
Idiotic lyrics.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 24, 2021 4:39 AM |
R41, let me in.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 24, 2021 4:44 AM |
R41 Just came back to add this song. It’s lush and gorgeous and the melody is beautiful. And any song that allows John to be featured is a winner.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 24, 2021 12:12 PM |
Yes R3. That's my favorite, too. It's like a dream set to music.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 24, 2021 12:55 PM |
Duran Duran had some fantastic extended versions of their songs. The night version of “Girls on Film” is my favourite.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 24, 2021 1:04 PM |
I remember giving a very hot British daddy head while we were listening to Come Undone.
He lasted the length of the song, but it was a whole vibe. LOL

I love the dance mixes for All She Wants Is.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 24, 2021 1:49 PM |
Really loved their cover version of White Lines. Some great white label remixes of the song.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 24, 2021 2:24 PM |
Wasn't the girl in the video for Rio trans?
I thought that was part of the whole wink-wink behavior going on.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 26, 2021 9:53 PM |
I like most of their songs, Hungry Like the Wolf is a favorite.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 26, 2021 10:03 PM |
New Moon on Monday. Every time I hear it I almost feel like it is the first time.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 26, 2021 10:09 PM |
Probably Hungry Like the Wolf. Then A View to a Kill and Notorious. I like their work with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 26, 2021 11:23 PM |
Last Chance on the Stairway!!
Great lyrics.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 27, 2021 12:04 AM |
Too many, and always changing. Here's a lesser known one that I always loved.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 27, 2021 1:26 AM |
R56, Yeah, I love that track too. Best track on that album, which is otherwise their worst album, and their only real flop.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | November 27, 2021 1:30 AM |
I really love "The Universe Alone" from the Paper Gods album (that entire album is amazing). Just a great track to end the album. Atmospheric and epic all at once. And the ending... just perfect.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 27, 2021 1:36 AM |
R57 Agreed. The album is a bit of a mess. I do love "Serious," as well.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 27, 2021 1:40 AM |
I used to put this album on at bedtime when I was a kid. I was usually out before the end of the first song, American Science, which is still a favorite. Come to think of it, I don't know that I've ever properly listened to side 2 of this record.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 27, 2021 1:45 AM |
I enjoy this performance. So 80s Eurotrash in the best way possible.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 27, 2021 3:59 AM |
R62 Nick was such a sexy little bitch. I love the back-up singers from this era, too. I remember them from the first DD concert I attended as a kid. They did a sexy strip tease behind a screen, during Skin Trade, and you could see their naked silhouettes being naughty as a backdrop during the song. Simon seems a bit off here - looking down a lot, not really into it, lacking charisma. Maybe it was an off day for him.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 27, 2021 11:08 AM |
loved it all. Electric Barbarella deserves mention.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 27, 2021 12:07 PM |
Really digging the new album.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | June 5, 2022 6:56 PM |
I know it’s kind of silly but I love Hungry Like the Wolf.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | June 5, 2022 6:59 PM |
"Rio" ... that bass line kicks ass.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 5, 2022 7:02 PM |
Ha! I look a bit like Simon and worked that haircut!
by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 5, 2022 7:04 PM |
There are a lot better songs, but Hungry Like the Wolf and Rio are my favorites.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | June 5, 2022 7:27 PM |
Friends of Mine
Night Boat
Sounds of Thunder
Tel Aviv
Planet Earth
by Anonymous | reply 70 | June 5, 2022 10:05 PM |
The most recent album from last year is surprisingly good.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | June 5, 2022 10:39 PM |
Their first album was brilliant . Careless Memories is my favorite.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | June 5, 2022 10:51 PM |
a view to a kill!
by Anonymous | reply 73 | June 5, 2022 11:12 PM |
I'm probably in the minority here (and maybe a minority of one) because it's the least "Duran Duran-sounding song they've ever done, but I really LOVE "Skin Divers".
by Anonymous | reply 74 | June 6, 2022 12:10 AM |
WHITE LINES!
DD was ridiculed for daring to be white while covering this Melle-Mel crack-rock cover.
But these honkies thrash this funky banger.
Great headphone-workout song.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | June 6, 2022 12:47 AM |
Favorite is a tie between:
New Moon on Monday
Come Undone
by Anonymous | reply 76 | June 6, 2022 1:13 AM |
The Reflex, I was obsessed with the video back in the day. Simon at his hottest.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | June 6, 2022 1:36 AM |
All my suggestions (Come Undone, Save A Prayer, Ordinary World, View To A Kill) have already been suggested. On the plus side, I've now realised that I like a helluva lot more Duran Duran songs than I had previously assumed.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | June 6, 2022 1:44 AM |
The Reflex. The ultimate summer song.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | June 6, 2022 1:51 AM |
One of my favorites is one of their first... a B-Side, never released on an actual album... "Late Bar"
It's such a fun song.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | June 6, 2022 2:23 AM |
It's not my favorite of Duran Duran but The Reflex 45 RPM EP on vinyl was the first piece of music I ever purchased. I was 8 yrs old.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | June 6, 2022 3:46 PM |
"Ordinary World" is mine, with "Say a Prayer" as an honorary mention.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | June 6, 2022 3:51 PM |
Some of my faves have been mentioned. I agree the Paper Gods album was good so I'll add the song with Janelle Monáe. It stands up to their old hits. It underscored to me they're not just a nostalgia act. Still a proper band.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | June 6, 2022 3:55 PM |
After the first album their lyrics were unintelligible cocaine mangled tripe.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | June 6, 2022 4:31 PM |
Maybe this is cheating, but the Arcadia project, So Red The Rose, was just as much a Duran Duran album as anything else, especially Medazzaland and Pop Trash, where Simon and Nick were the only remaining OG members. It also sounds like a bridge between Seven And The Ragged Tiger and Notorious, sonically. It was released in 1985, along with A View To A Kill, which wouldn't have sounded out of place on So Red The Rose. I also love the band aesthetic during this period. They looked like vampires.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | June 6, 2022 5:16 PM |
Save a Prayer
Blue Moon on Monday
Election Day (Arcadia, but DD members)
Wild Boyz (just kidding that sucks total and complete ASS)
by Anonymous | reply 86 | June 6, 2022 5:50 PM |
I was such a music snob as a teen in the 80s. I publically hated DD. I railed against them. But even at the time, I thought they were pretty good. Now I think they're great.
Man, does hearing those songs put me RIGHT BACK to 1984. Those songs just feel like the early '80s.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | June 6, 2022 5:57 PM |
I was there at the beginning. I lost interest after the first album, with a few more interesting singles after their moment was over.
Friends Of Mine is their stand out for me.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | June 6, 2022 6:02 PM |
It's either New Religion, for that great bass line, or Last Chance on the Stairway. Runner up is The Chauffeur and then Khanada.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | June 6, 2022 6:13 PM |
Footage of Nick Rhodes laughing about how much prettier he was than the girls whose boyfriends used to call him a fag.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | June 6, 2022 10:45 PM |
Tie between Wild Boys and Come Undone.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | June 6, 2022 10:51 PM |
Another vote for Come Undone & Save a Prayer
Did anyone ever watch the Duran Duran "Behind the Music"? Very good - as people, they're not really very interesting & it's the typical drugs, partying & groupie stories, but you can tell that they never viewed themselves as great artistes & had a lot of fun. They also talk about the episode when one of them (Simon?) was into sailing and the boat he was in flipped over & he was trapped underneath. Given their respective lifestyle, it's amazing that a lot of them have long marriages
by Anonymous | reply 93 | June 6, 2022 11:06 PM |
Can't believe no one's mentioned Skin Trade yet.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | June 6, 2022 11:36 PM |

Wild Boys is so bad. That one I do not get.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | June 7, 2022 12:44 AM |
Wild Boys is great, though probably not in my top 10 songs, the video is in my top ten videos by them.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | June 7, 2022 12:46 AM |
WIld Boys.. you gotta just roll with it. I see why people don't like it I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | June 7, 2022 12:51 AM |
"The Man Who Stole A Leopard" is a fucking masterpiece, imho.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | June 7, 2022 12:52 AM |
Their videos were especially edgy in the day. The Chauffeur sticks out in my memory. I loved Save a Prayer. But my favorite is going to be the extreme version of Girls on Film.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | June 7, 2022 1:12 AM |
[quote]Their videos were especially edgy in the day.
Agreed; I rewatched Rio posted on this thread; lots of images of beautiful women getting buckets of painted dumped on their asses. Hmm....not so edgy as I remembered. But I believe it was the BTM episode that said Duran Duran were one of the first bands to put real $$ & production value into their videos and that their videos - kind of novelty at the time - really rocketed them to success
by Anonymous | reply 101 | June 7, 2022 9:07 AM |
The entirety of Notorious is awesome: Skin Trade, American Science, it’s all fantastic.
Astronaut is a great song, too.
I liked the Liberty album, too.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | June 7, 2022 7:28 PM |
I was a teen in the 1980s. I remember all the girls in high school saying Duran Duran was the first band they'd seen where all the members were cute. I loved all their songs. It's hard to pick a favorite. I thought Save a Prayer was hauntingly good and the video got heavy rotation on MTV. I'm surprised in the US it only got to #16. I'm also partial to New Moon on Monday, The Reflex, and Is There Something I Should Know. I can't pick just one favorite.
In the US, they had nine Top 10 hits from 1982-1988. That's a really good run for any band. Then in 1993 Ordinary World was their big comeback single after a couple of flop albums and not charting any more hits, and the followed that with Top Ten hit Come Undone. Then after that, nothing. They are one of the bands from my teen years where some of their new stuff is very good. Too bad in the US bands age out.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | June 7, 2022 9:17 PM |
They always had style, good visuals, they were hot. They gave us some international playboy adventure and million dollar warehouse music videos as well.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | June 7, 2022 10:42 PM |
I always liked Secret Oktober, the b-side to Union Of The Snake. God, I miss b-sides. They were such a treat.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | June 7, 2022 10:51 PM |
I kind of like the band that paid homage to them, Saran Saran. They did wrap music, and had a minor hit with "I Shot Bobby Kennedy."
by Anonymous | reply 106 | June 8, 2022 1:42 AM |
The "Paper Gods" album is just really good.
Some of my favorites from that:
Paper Gods
The Universe Alone
Pressure Off
Last Night In The City
Only In Dreams
by Anonymous | reply 107 | June 8, 2022 4:57 AM |
What album is that on, R99?
by Anonymous | reply 108 | June 12, 2022 4:04 PM |
