A DL holiday tradition!
That is a great commercial. The actor portraying Peter looks familiar.
Part two would have Peter coming out to his parents and them choking on their second cup of Folger's mountain grown coffee.

Peter was played by Greg Wrangler, who was in The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless.

I’d prefer to see Peter Cums at Christmas. Happy Holidays!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 16, 2021 11:35 AM |
It's been widely speculated on DL that the person who dropped Peter off was someone he met at the baths on Christmas Eve and that he made the coffee to hide the scent of lube and poppers that were all over the gifts. He would've had to sprung for a room as they couldn't have all fit in a locker. Unless they kept them behind the front desk or something. Now that Hallmark is making gay Christmas movies, I think they should explore this story.

I think the way he smells coffee is a good indicator of how he smells cookies.

I always thought it odd that a family portrayed as obviously upscale would be drinking Folger's. Yes, I understand how advertising works, but if you thought about it, it wouldn't really make sense.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 16, 2021 8:22 PM |
Why is the family so excited? They probably saw him less than a month earlier at Thanksgiving. Fucking Peter!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 16, 2021 9:01 PM |
R16 at that time no one in the US of any income was really drinking single origin fresh ground coffee. It was mostly big coffee producers in a can.

Nuh-uh, r18. The "Peter Comes Home" commercial was made in 1985. I'd been buying coffee at places like McNulty's since 1976, when I started drinking coffee.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 19, 2021 5:39 PM |
McNulty's Tea and Coffee. If you live in the city and love coffee, you have no excuse not to buy it at McNulty's. Celebes Kalossi is my favorite.

Don't bring any of those fancy whole bean coffees. We don't care what you do at college but your father won't have it in his home.

There's a lot to unpack here. The family dynamic is a headscratcher. The parents look old enough to be the girl's grandparents. Did they adopt after Peter left the nest? There appears to be an 8 year age gap between each kid. The middle child is sexually ambiguous. I see no key from when the trick drops him off and when he opens the door. Peter couldn't wait for the rest of the family to come downstairs before he drank the coffee? Why does the "mother" look like she's freezing when she reaches the bottom of the stairs? And what was the reason Peter wasn't expected home for Christmas in the first place? It's no wonder I drank Sanka.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 26, 2021 2:14 PM |
R25: Maybe this is Ma's second marriage and the little girl was the new husband's last chance at a kid. You'll notice, he never says DAD to the guy after he mentions Mom. The older girl (clearly) is his sister. But maybe she's also in college and just came home earlier cause unlike Peter, she has a boyfriend who ate her out before she came home a few days ago. Lastly, it's always cold when you get out of bed in winter.

I went to McNulty's for the first time a few weeks ago. I was surprised to discover it is Chinese-owned. I bought some French Roast Java Mountain Supreme, but the roast is a bit darker than I prefer. I'm giving it to a friend who likes darker roasts.

I don't think there was a wide variety of coffees to choose from back in the early 80s or whenever this was. It was basically whatever you could get in the grocery store.

When I first moved to NYC and lived around the corner I wanted to go in and say to one of the Chinese men who own it "Mr McNulty I presume " but I resisted that racist joke.

R60 Well put. I remember a kid in high school, of course he was gay; at age 16, he had many of these opinions already. I can picture him going to someone's home and being aghast that they were drinking the wrong coffee, or eating the inappropriate cereal, for their station in life. Probably posts on DL now.
