Peter Comes Home For Christmas

A DL holiday tradition!

That is a great commercial. The actor portraying Peter looks familiar.

Part two would have Peter coming out to his parents and them choking on their second cup of Folger's mountain grown coffee.

by Anonymousreply 1November 16, 2021 6:39 AM

Peter was played by Greg Wrangler, who was in The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless.

I’d prefer to see Peter Cums at Christmas. Happy Holidays!

by Anonymousreply 3November 16, 2021 11:35 AM

It's been widely speculated on DL that the person who dropped Peter off was someone he met at the baths on Christmas Eve and that he made the coffee to hide the scent of lube and poppers that were all over the gifts. He would've had to sprung for a room as they couldn't have all fit in a locker. Unless they kept them behind the front desk or something. Now that Hallmark is making gay Christmas movies, I think they should explore this story.

One hopes so! Hrrrumph!

by Anonymousreply 6November 16, 2021 12:59 PM

Is Peter supposed to be a gaywad?

by Anonymousreply 7November 16, 2021 2:32 PM

I think the way he smells coffee is a good indicator of how he smells cookies.

by Anonymousreply 8November 16, 2021 5:31 PM

I prefer the one where the younger sister eye fucks her older brother.

If he didn't get HIV at the baths on Christmas Eve 1984, he probably never will.

by Anonymousreply 12November 16, 2021 6:38 PM

He got better looking as he aged.

by Anonymousreply 13November 16, 2021 6:45 PM

He wasn't bad to begin with.

Like his hair in r14 much more than the Folgers bouffant.

by Anonymousreply 15November 16, 2021 8:04 PM

I always thought it odd that a family portrayed as obviously upscale would be drinking Folger's. Yes, I understand how advertising works, but if you thought about it, it wouldn't really make sense.

by Anonymousreply 16November 16, 2021 8:22 PM

Why is the family so excited? They probably saw him less than a month earlier at Thanksgiving. Fucking Peter!

by Anonymousreply 17November 16, 2021 9:01 PM

R16 at that time no one in the US of any income was really drinking single origin fresh ground coffee. It was mostly big coffee producers in a can.

by Anonymousreply 18November 19, 2021 5:11 PM

Nuh-uh, r18. The "Peter Comes Home" commercial was made in 1985. I'd been buying coffee at places like McNulty's since 1976, when I started drinking coffee.

McNulty's Tea and Coffee. If you live in the city and love coffee, you have no excuse not to buy it at McNulty's. Celebes Kalossi is my favorite.

Don't bring any of those fancy whole bean coffees. We don't care what you do at college but your father won't have it in his home.

by Anonymousreply 21November 19, 2021 6:59 PM

Peter is who Beth Jarrett pretends Conrad to be when she thinks of him.

That is, if she were to ever think of him.

by Anonymousreply 22November 19, 2021 7:09 PM

Buck never would have drank Folgers

by Anonymousreply 23November 19, 2021 7:22 PM

R4: Your comment is comedy gold.

by Anonymousreply 24November 19, 2021 7:43 PM

There's a lot to unpack here. The family dynamic is a headscratcher. The parents look old enough to be the girl's grandparents. Did they adopt after Peter left the nest? There appears to be an 8 year age gap between each kid. The middle child is sexually ambiguous. I see no key from when the trick drops him off and when he opens the door. Peter couldn't wait for the rest of the family to come downstairs before he drank the coffee? Why does the "mother" look like she's freezing when she reaches the bottom of the stairs? And what was the reason Peter wasn't expected home for Christmas in the first place? It's no wonder I drank Sanka.

by Anonymousreply 25November 26, 2021 2:14 PM

R25: Maybe this is Ma's second marriage and the little girl was the new husband's last chance at a kid. You'll notice, he never says DAD to the guy after he mentions Mom. The older girl (clearly) is his sister. But maybe she's also in college and just came home earlier cause unlike Peter, she has a boyfriend who ate her out before she came home a few days ago. Lastly, it's always cold when you get out of bed in winter.

I think you're referring to "Peter Fucks His Sister for Christmas"

I went to McNulty's for the first time a few weeks ago. I was surprised to discover it is Chinese-owned. I bought some French Roast Java Mountain Supreme, but the roast is a bit darker than I prefer. I'm giving it to a friend who likes darker roasts.

by Anonymousreply 31November 26, 2021 3:04 PM

Let’s see what’s in that package Peter.

by Anonymousreply 34November 26, 2021 4:14 PM

I don't care if it's five in the morning, get your asses out of bed!

When commercials were normally a minute long.

by Anonymousreply 35November 26, 2021 4:24 PM

[quote]I always thought it odd that a family portrayed as obviously upscale would be drinking Folger's.

I don't think there was a wide variety of coffees to choose from back in the early 80s or whenever this was. It was basically whatever you could get in the grocery store.

by Anonymousreply 36November 26, 2021 4:28 PM

[quote]The parents look old enough to be the girl's grandparents.

The girl was a later in life "ooops!" baby. Mom thought she was too old to get pregnant and stopped using birth control. It happens.

by Anonymousreply 37November 26, 2021 4:30 PM

r33 thank you for that article. We had a big thread about that commercial here on DL and it was hilarious. So sick!

by Anonymousreply 38November 26, 2021 4:34 PM

With a name like Wrangler you've gotta be gay.

by Anonymousreply 39November 26, 2021 4:43 PM

They should've hired Sam Robards to play 'Peter' as an FU to 'you know who.'

by Anonymousreply 40November 26, 2021 4:53 PM

I found this commercial ever so charming.

by Anonymousreply 41November 26, 2021 5:16 PM

Oh grow up. She is the granddaughter , she is the older daughter's bastard child that they told everyone was an "ooops" baby.

I prefer Ethiopian Mocha at McNulty, strong medium blend.

When I first moved to NYC and lived around the corner I wanted to go in and say to one of the Chinese men who own it "Mr McNulty I presume " but I resisted that racist joke.

by Anonymousreply 57December 26, 2021 2:53 AM

I saw Folger's for sale in the American section in London last week. I almost bought it. If I see it again I will. Then I'll really be able to look the DL Folger gurls in the eye. Stand my ground.

by Anonymousreply 58December 26, 2021 3:07 AM

In blindfolded taste tests, most people can't tell the difference between one brand of coffee or another.

by Anonymousreply 59December 26, 2021 3:28 AM

Funny r57! Bizarre and outmoded opinions of class markers is a staple of DL.

by Anonymousreply 60December 26, 2021 3:34 AM

R60 Well put. I remember a kid in high school, of course he was gay; at age 16, he had many of these opinions already. I can picture him going to someone's home and being aghast that they were drinking the wrong coffee, or eating the inappropriate cereal, for their station in life. Probably posts on DL now.
