Am a college lecturer and have only recently realised that the 60% women/40% men split in university enrollment is pretty universal, taking all disciplines into account, not just in the US but here in Europe too. I think that can be true. It's not that it doesn't matter; obviously anyone who likes sex would want a good sex partner, but it can be overridden by other concerns - for a lot of women; certainly not all. The other thing -- people get good sex elsewhere, even if only intermittently, including women.

Given that so many relationships fail and there's can be so much anger and pain - people naturally ask if the "model" of marriage and committed relationships makes sense. I've realized that "professed monogamy + cheating" (which may or may not end the relationship) might just make perfect sense despite all the problems it causes. What would cause less problems? Open relationships? Maybe for a small subset of couples. But most people have too big of an ego and, naturally, people want to feel like they are special and loved -- that they are "the one." Ick? Maybe. But, again, the older I get, the more it makes sense.
