I'm renovating my grandparents' house, a small 1940s, slightly deco painted brick cottage in the Carolinas. It has a large backyard and alleyway, across from which lives a really annoying neighbor who removed all trees and shrubbery to expose his unattractive backyard. It has me considering an office and guest house with a conversion of the yard into a courtyard with a patio, garden, possibly a pool, etc. I can't decide if I want to build a modernesque steel and glass box, a southern style bungalow with a large veranda/porch, a southwestern villa, or a hybrid of the above styles. I could also build another brick structure to maintain the overall style of the property. I could also throw up a sheet metal box to blend in with the dollar stores across town. Am I missing something even better? I have 30 years to make it happen.

You're not doing this - so why the elaborate set up?
