What if Madonna hadn't been dating Warren Beatty and refused to demean herself with a comic book movie? Who else could have played Breathless Mahoney?
Who else could have played Breathless in Dick Tracy?

Paula Abdul needed to follow up this masterpiece with another classic.

Sharon Stone played the femme fatale around that time in Total Recall, a way cooler movie.

That "comic book movie" as you put it was an A list production led by Warren Beatty with an impressive supporting cast, including Al Pacino. That grubby little no talent sleazebag was damn lucky to be cast. She must have had chapped lips for a year afterwards paying him back. And she stunk in it.

None. Madonna was well cast.

Linda Fiorentino would have been a very interesting choice to play Breathless Mahoney, R11. I think she was in Europe doing indies at that time, though. She didn't have a very strong singing voice, but it was quite theatrical as you can see in this clip from "Chain of Desire."

Wasn't it obvious that their "dating" was just a publicity stunt? She wasn't his girlfriend when she was cast. Their faux relationship came later, after the movie was released. No one bought it, of course. If you've watched "Truth or Dare" it's obvious it's a fake relationship. He can barely stand to be in the same room with her for 10 seconds.

R21, nope, I believe they really dated. Madonna was pretty irresistible at the time and Warren shagged everyone who could keep his name in the columns.

If this film had been produced in the 1950s, Breathless is a role that Vivian Vance could totally have nailed.

Madonna Louise was perfectly cast as Breathless Mahoney in Dick Tracy. I thought she nailed it. She needed more musical numbers and more overall screen time.

Honestly, none of them. Say what you want about Madonna's acting, but she was MADE for that role. She knew exactly what she was doing, and she got it right.
R25 Exactly. She did deserve a little more screen time. Even Tarantino, I believe, said she was the only one who really knew what she was doing in that film, with that material.

Except for the millions of fans she has the world over. I mean, you don't become the most successful woman in music, for that long, with nobody liking you, so the "no one ever" sentiment doesn't really work here...

Even with yellow hair, Madonna was gorgeous in this movie
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 18, 2021 6:13 AM |
Wow, can y'all imagine Warren Beatty and Vivian Vance as romantic leads in a movie?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 18, 2021 6:14 AM |
Madonna was not gorgeous. She was well lit and costumed. Beatty insisted on it. He gave her some ASS. Proportioned her face and body as best as could be achieved. 25 years later Madonna bought herself a BIG SQUARE ASS. After she stopped offering anal in the car.
50 other singer/actresses could have performed Breathless as well or better. Madonna was OK. The movie is not watchable anyway. She doesn't suck too hard because Dick Tracy was an exercise in failure. Madonna doesn't even give good head anymore. Her ASS is BIG tho.
