‘Tis the season to be sort of jolly, sort of not. Whatever.

My pumpkin spice has turned musty.

by Anonymousreply 2October 16, 2021 9:38 PM

Too early, come back in a month

by Anonymousreply 3October 16, 2021 9:41 PM

R3 it’s a thing. Xmas now. Spring on January 1st. How fucked.

by Anonymousreply 4October 16, 2021 10:59 PM

Took my dog for a walk 4 times today, as every day. She's 14, has a tumor on her leg, but still walks and eats. She may not have much longer. We have only had her 2 months. We adopted her from a friend who was too old and weak to care for her.

by Anonymousreply 5October 17, 2021 2:07 AM

I switched from my linen sheets to my flannel sheets today, and swapped my summer clothes out for fall.

by Anonymousreply 6October 17, 2021 2:10 AM

Twice now I've bought something from Amazon that was listed as being fulfilled by Amazon, but which turned out to be sent by a third-party seller, and I got overcharged both times. Amazon won't refund me the difference, they make me contact the third-party seller, who ignores me so all I can do is leave a bad review. I suspect Amazon will remove those eventually.

Cancelled my Prime membership though and all my Subscribe & Save items.

by Anonymousreply 7October 18, 2021 4:33 PM

That would whelm me, r7.

by Anonymousreply 8October 18, 2021 4:44 PM

In order to remain underwhelmed on the Datalounge, r8 you've got to develop a thicker skin.

by Anonymousreply 9October 18, 2021 4:46 PM

Amazon, like eBay before it, has become a cesspool of cheap Chinese products with made-up brands sold by shadowy sellers, pimped by fake reviews. Greedy bastards.

by Anonymousreply 10October 18, 2021 4:46 PM

I’m currently roasting pumpkins so I can make a pumpkin chili later

I will serve it over rice

by Anonymousreply 11October 18, 2021 4:48 PM

It rained for the first time in what feels like years in northern california last night.

by Anonymousreply 12October 18, 2021 4:49 PM

Glad I don't know you, r11.

by Anonymousreply 13October 18, 2021 4:51 PM

"I'd eat it! I'll eat anything if you call it chili!"

by Anonymousreply 14October 18, 2021 4:52 PM

The feeling’s whelmingingly mutual, r13

by Anonymousreply 15October 18, 2021 4:54 PM

I like to crotchet and knit with expensive wool. Cashmere merino silk mixed with yak wool.

The project still looks like shit but hej it is nice warm and soft unlike cold dead acrylic wool

by Anonymousreply 16October 18, 2021 5:11 PM

I cooked fresh store bought pasta today. I think the water was too hot. The 4 minute cooking time on the package was a bit too long

by Anonymousreply 17October 18, 2021 5:15 PM

We got snow this morning in central Nevada - not in the forecast. The sun is out now and it's almost melted away.

by Anonymousreply 18October 18, 2021 6:09 PM

I cut down four more trees with my new Stihl chainsaw today. Four more to go before I get my covid booster and flu shot this Thursday. I hope my arms don't ache too much after the jabs.

by Anonymousreply 19October 19, 2021 1:02 AM

Ten days later, I still have a bruise from my flu shot. Wacky, huh?

by Anonymousreply 20October 19, 2021 1:09 AM

Brrrr my taint is cold n dry

by Anonymousreply 21October 19, 2021 1:30 AM

R19–you’re cutting down trees? TREES? How butch.

by Anonymousreply 22October 19, 2021 4:50 AM

I ate three boiled eggs and a slice of leftover pork belly for lunch today. And no, none of you can have my stuff.

by Anonymousreply 23October 19, 2021 3:58 PM

I don't want any of your stuff r23, but I will kindly offer you a can of Glade air freshener.

by Anonymousreply 24October 19, 2021 4:22 PM

It will probably rain more now. That’s good.

by Anonymousreply 25October 19, 2021 4:44 PM

When I was a teenager I’d watch Stephen Collins on TV and lie in my twin bed masturbating like a mofo

by Anonymousreply 26October 19, 2021 4:47 PM

I'm going to eat my lunch soon- A hummus wrap that I dip in Dijon mustard. Jeez ,I hope I don't get heartburn later.

by Anonymousreply 27October 19, 2021 5:58 PM

I tried the Aroy-D brand (canned) of coconut "cream" for the first time. Made curry. Absolutely delicious.

by Anonymousreply 28October 19, 2021 6:26 PM

I am currently enjoying one of my LARGE salads served with Barcelona Vinaigrette.

by Anonymousreply 29October 19, 2021 6:27 PM

London

I discovered I'd bought The Fabulous Baker Boys from iTunes. So I started to watch it on my computer. I still really like it. Though Michelle Pfeiffer mumbles and mutters a lot of her lines.

I'm learning how to bake bread. Bought some fresh yeast from a new place, but it doesn't work. First loaf is about one inch in height. Second one did rise but with great lumps on top. It looks like Elephant Man.

by Anonymousreply 30October 19, 2021 6:37 PM

I have always wanted a yak. And a yurt.

by Anonymousreply 31October 19, 2021 7:05 PM

I bought a package of Pumpkin Spice Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheats over the weekend and tried some this morning. I rather liked it.

by Anonymousreply 32October 19, 2021 7:27 PM

The Amazon truck just parked in front of MY house to deliver goodies to all of my neighbors, but not me.

by Anonymousreply 33October 19, 2021 7:36 PM

Maybe the Wells Fargo wagon will bring you something special, R33.

by Anonymousreply 34October 19, 2021 7:38 PM

Din din tonight is Broccoli White Bean Soup with Millet.

by Anonymousreply 35October 19, 2021 7:43 PM

R33 they ordered toilet paper.

by Anonymousreply 36October 19, 2021 8:04 PM

Talk about whelming! I never got my birthday chowder (from other thread) as we couldn't find the restaurant - settled for a burger and shake instead.

by Anonymousreply 37October 19, 2021 8:19 PM

I would have needed a lie-down after that ordeal, R37.

by Anonymousreply 38October 19, 2021 8:58 PM

Responding to the previous thread...

We're BORN from eggs---how in fuck could eggs be bad for us?

Same as salt. Mammals arose from the sea. Saline is part of our DNA. Common sense

Ridiculous "health" propaganda.

by Anonymousreply 39October 20, 2021 4:45 AM

"I rather liked it."

Of course you did.

I did not have dinner tonight. Twice a week I skip dinner so that by the time I eat breakfast the next day it will be about 21 hours since I've eaten which is very good for ones health markers such as- blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides even on days when one doesn't do the partial fasting. I've been doing this at least since the winter of 2020.

by Anonymousreply 42October 21, 2021 12:49 AM

I just remembered…last night I had a dream that I was overdrawn. Even though it’s not likely, I checked to be sure. Still solvent.

by Anonymousreply 43October 21, 2021 1:13 AM

R43, overdrawn like a Looney Tunes character? Or overdrawn like tired??

by Anonymousreply 44October 21, 2021 2:41 AM

No, r44…

Like this.

by Anonymousreply 46October 21, 2021 4:29 AM

Lunch for Thursday is a spicy tofu salad I bought at a health food store on a corn tortilla with lettuce, tomato and some overpriced French mustard I bought on amazon.

by Anonymousreply 47October 21, 2021 4:35 AM

Amazing how urine can smell like bleach to some.

by Anonymousreply 51October 21, 2021 7:03 PM

I made baked yams last night and drizzled with honey and red pepper flakes.

by Anonymousreply 52October 21, 2021 7:04 PM

I have discovered Tillamook ice cream and I am trying to resist the urge to go the market just to buy some.

by Anonymousreply 53October 21, 2021 7:38 PM

That sounds pretty sweet, R52.

by Anonymousreply 54October 21, 2021 8:04 PM

It’s 75 degrees and I have my AC running. Underwhelmed by fall 2021 so far.

by Anonymousreply 55October 21, 2021 8:37 PM

Set up my mom's replacement landlines after a slightly belated birthday lunch (mine, hers is in April). Hardest part was moving furniture to get at the sockets!

by Anonymousreply 56October 21, 2021 8:44 PM
It’s 75 degrees and I have my AC running. Underwhelmed by fall 2021 so far.

It's 75 in our nation's capital, also.

by Anonymousreply 57October 21, 2021 8:51 PM

You sound sweet, R56. Your mom is lucky.

by Anonymousreply 58October 21, 2021 9:00 PM

Did some yard work and got these horrid prickly, parasitic seeds all over my clothes.

by Anonymousreply 59October 21, 2021 9:46 PM

They were beggarticks or sticktights, more formerly a species of Bidens. There’s a Facebook meme in there somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 60October 21, 2021 9:57 PM

^Formally, dammit

by Anonymousreply 61October 21, 2021 9:57 PM

Argh! They’re in my hair.

by Anonymousreply 62October 21, 2021 10:00 PM

I find those sticky seeds and thorns whelming. They would get stuck on my husky took.

by Anonymousreply 63October 22, 2021 12:57 AM

I went to Target this afternoon for a few things. They were also out of my TAZO Wild Sweet Orange tea. Settled for something similar, it’s…okay.

by Anonymousreply 64October 22, 2021 1:17 AM

Somebody is hoarding Nabisco Pinwheels Chocolate and Marshmallow Cookies.

Twice now in the past month, there is a gaping, conspicuous, mocking void on the shelf where they should be.

by Anonymousreply 65October 22, 2021 1:29 AM

We don't get really cold until January in Cincinnati. I've spent many Thanksgivings and Christmases loading up my car with food or presents while wearing a tee-shirt. Once or twice I did it shirtless. Of course, I dress up for the big day, but may not wear a coat or jacket.

by Anonymousreply 66October 22, 2021 1:50 AM

R66) it’s not called the Queen City for nothing.

by Anonymousreply 67October 22, 2021 2:09 AM

Last week, my local grocery store had buffalo chicken nuggets and they were scrumptious. I went back this week and they didn't have them. My whole day was ruined.

by Anonymousreply 68October 22, 2021 2:43 AM

Wasn't Wallis Simpson from Cincinatti? Or is that where she married her first of many husbands?

by Anonymousreply 69October 22, 2021 3:33 AM

You know what I just said to my cat?

“What have I done to deserve such fluff?” That’s what.

by Anonymousreply 70October 22, 2021 6:31 PM

The food at lunch was overpriced; the dyke server was very sweet. Life is full of trade-offs.

by Anonymousreply 71October 22, 2021 6:37 PM

My cat jumped at the back screen door with such enthusiasm, that he broke the lock. I’ve asked him several times what he wanted out there so much, but so far…no answer.

by Anonymousreply 72October 22, 2021 7:19 PM

My dinner tonight is Health Valley Organic No Salt Added Vegetable Soup which I serve with millet.

by Anonymousreply 73October 22, 2021 8:27 PM

The workday is done! Happy Weekend, DL!

Where's the Friday Night Drinkie-Poo poster when you need them??!! Doesn't matter, really. I'm trying to cut down on alcohol so I can lose some weight.

by Anonymousreply 74October 22, 2021 9:03 PM

I haven't eaten sweets/snacks, pizza etc for 26 days in a row- yet , today I went to Aldi and bought a BIG frozen pizza with figs and feta cheese and a chocolate bar that resembles Kit Kat but it's an Aldi brand imported from Spain. I'm like a dry drunk. I'm having my cake but not eating it too.

by Anonymousreply 76October 22, 2021 9:17 PM

Aldi does pretty well on the chocolate front, R76. After a month, you can indulge. My bet is that you'll end up having some of it, but not all.

by Anonymousreply 77October 22, 2021 9:51 PM

I'm waiting to meet my step-sister's new boyfriend tonight at dinner. He's supposed to be a strapping 6'6" guy with muscles. Can't wait!

by Anonymousreply 78October 22, 2021 11:18 PM

How old are you guys, R78? Do they know you're gay?

by Anonymousreply 79October 22, 2021 11:19 PM

I just signed up for snow removal. It's $125 a month, but well worth it. They promise removal of any snow accumulation more than 3 cm. I could do it myself, but I really just don't want to. It would have been $120, but I'm getting them to do around my hot tub as well.

by Anonymousreply 80October 22, 2021 11:20 PM

R79 - actually, I'm 55 and he's about 45. My step-sister actually lives nextdoor.

by Anonymousreply 81October 22, 2021 11:22 PM
I'm getting them to do around my hot tub as well.

So that's what they call it nowadays.

by Anonymousreply 82October 23, 2021 2:21 AM

How did it go, R78?

by Anonymousreply 83October 23, 2021 1:00 PM

My lunch is scheduled for 1:30pm. I having Tilapia that I baked with olive oil in the oven. I shall squeeze lemon juice on it and then dip it in honey mustard. My second course for lunch is trail mix.

by Anonymousreply 84October 23, 2021 4:53 PM

There’s been a cat sitting still in my back yard for hours this week. I suspect he’s waiting for a chipmunk to emerge from its burrow. Should I tell him the chipmunks have dug a whole NYC subway system out there and can emerge anywhere? Nah.

by Anonymousreply 85October 23, 2021 5:06 PM

Fancy, R84! I just finished a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with some potato chips; vegetable = large slug of V8 juice.

by Anonymousreply 86October 23, 2021 5:21 PM

R83 - well, not as well as I expected. He was tall and muscular, but dough-faced and bald. And he told endless stories about his days in the Marines and how drunk they got. I excused myself and went to my computer after awhile.

by Anonymousreply 87October 23, 2021 5:50 PM

how will you deal with this obvious trumper infiltrating your family and gets drunk on the daily next door R87?

by Anonymousreply 88October 23, 2021 5:55 PM

You may remain calm.

It's grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup and I have "French Exit" for visuals.

I had to purchase everything at the yuppie mart, so the cheese is thicker cheddar (I'm adding colbyjack), the bread is sliced French, and the soup is a "bisque".

My ideal ratio of three sandwiches per bowl of soup will be maintained and I plan on watching Michelle Pfeiffer set something on fire.

I also have a small bud of weed.

by Anonymousreply 89October 24, 2021 1:21 AM

I got cellulitis from the fucking doctor. I had a steroid injection in my leg, and the next thing you know i have cellulitis. I've been taking antibiotics for 3 weeks and i think it's finally over. That shit hurts.

by Anonymousreply 90October 24, 2021 1:49 AM

I was injected with my Covid booster Thursday as well as the annual flu shot, no reactions that I can detect. The pharmacist suggested that I get the over 65 flu shot, I guess it's some super duper thing. I chopped wood for 4 hours Friday and 7 hours today. I will be glad to be done with this wood chopping stuff.

by Anonymousreply 91October 24, 2021 4:43 AM

R91, you must be in pretty good shape if you can chop wood for 4 and 7 hours.

by Anonymousreply 92October 24, 2021 5:19 AM

I just got back from a bathhouse. I had a decent time for someone my age.

by Anonymousreply 93October 24, 2021 5:56 AM

I took quite a few breaks R92. I don't ache or feel sore but I know its dangerous to get tired with an axe. So I take long coffee breaks and then get back to it. Working outside all day is so satisfying.

I'm soaking Kidney beans. I will let them soak until about 9pm then I will boil them for an hour, drain and cool. I will put them in my salad for lunch on Monday. Beans are high in fiber.

by Anonymousreply 96October 24, 2021 3:35 PM

R96, why kidney beans? Those are my least-favorite beans (except for lima, I guess). Why not garbanzos.

by Anonymousreply 97October 25, 2021 12:42 AM

R97- I put chickpeas in my salad last week. I have a open bag of kidney left over from a batch of Vegetarian Chili I made weeks ago and thought it would be a good way to finish off the bag, besides which, I like kidney beans.

by Anonymousreply 98October 25, 2021 12:48 AM

I made a deep dish cherry pie with my marvelous crust.

by Anonymousreply 99October 25, 2021 12:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 100October 25, 2021 1:34 AM

My cousin has sent me belated birthday greetings as part of a lengthy email. I shall respond tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 101October 25, 2021 1:37 AM

I attended a wedding last night, took more brisket than I should have in the buffet line....and then watched some at the end of the line go without.

by Anonymousreply 102October 25, 2021 2:02 AM

I'm not sure whether you're gloating or whether you feel a little guilty, R102. The former would be a little whelming.

by Anonymousreply 103October 25, 2021 2:58 AM

Seems like there wasn’t enough brisket on the buffet. Unless you took 5 lbs. of it.

by Anonymousreply 104October 25, 2021 3:09 AM

Or, the previous guests were complete pigs?

by Anonymousreply 105October 25, 2021 12:30 PM

I have to decorate a mini-pumpkin by 3 pm today. Problem is - I can't seem to find one! My local WalMart and Shop Rite don't have any left. I bought a gourd at SR, for emergencies in case I can't find one. I'll try JoAnn's Fabrics and the local Farm Market later this morning. Both had them last week. It doesn't pay to be a last minute Minny in this area. It seems everyone is decorating mini-pumpkins.

by Anonymousreply 106October 25, 2021 12:59 PM

You could always decorate a grape.

by Anonymousreply 107October 25, 2021 1:09 PM

LOL, R107. But it has to at least be orange or orange-adjacent. I'm confident I can find one. My art skills are . . . not great but I'll so my best.

by Anonymousreply 108October 25, 2021 1:29 PM

How about a butternut squash, Cosmo?

by Anonymousreply 109October 25, 2021 3:07 PM

I pronounce it ARE-nge

by Anonymousreply 110October 25, 2021 3:09 PM

Try Trader Joe’s..

by Anonymousreply 111October 25, 2021 3:30 PM

UPDATE: Mini-pumpkin has been found! I went to a local nursery that is mostly known for it's Christmas tree selection.

by Anonymousreply 112October 25, 2021 3:50 PM

Damn, I was looking forward to that grape r112.

by Anonymousreply 113October 25, 2021 3:54 PM

I'm SO relieved. I just brought my Volkswagen Rabbit to a new mechanic and I was cringing thinking about what the bill was going to be to repair my climate control- when I put the fan on nothing comes out through the vents for a/c, heat or defrost- It was reasonable for what they have to fix. I got them through Repairpal.com, which I found out about through Consumer Reports.

by Anonymousreply 114October 25, 2021 3:55 PM

by Anonymousreply 124October 27, 2021 7:51 PM

Good luck with that! I cleaned before my mother visited yesterday, but Comments Were Made.

by Anonymousreply 125October 27, 2021 8:07 PM

I sprained my back lifting the laundry basket up. I think I twisted a bit too much on the lift off.

by Anonymousreply 126October 27, 2021 8:14 PM

I walked 3.5 miles outside this morning and 1.5 miles on the treadmill just now. That's a total of 5 miles of walking/exercise today.

by Anonymousreply 127October 27, 2021 8:18 PM

London.

I walked to White City this afternoon. It's like a new town, it IS a new town, within London, just beyond Shepherd's Bush. The new buildings are very impressive and whelming. i talked to a young woman with a Westie who was sitting on a bench in a nice new park. Then I went to the new little Amazon supermarket. I bought a very nice sausage roll and a coffee from a coffee machine. I love coffee machines.

Now do it tomorrow and every day for the rest of your extended life.

I put my metal cock ring on this morning to make me feel better. It was cold outside. While checking out at Kroger my cock ring fell off, dropped out of my jeans and went rolling down the floor. I don't know if any of the 20 or so people who saw it knew what it was. I picked it up and payed the cashier as if nothing happened.

It would have been a great time to have a gorgeous muscular man bagging my groceries. This could have been a wonderful story. It's still cold outside.

by Anonymousreply 133October 28, 2021 1:28 AM

R132- 12,499 steps according to my phone. I only do a LONG walk on Wednesday and Saturday. The other days it's 2.1 miles outside and nothing on the treadmill.

On Saturday it's 3.5 miles outside and nothing on the treadmill, so Wednesday is by far THE MOST exercise laden day of my week.

by Anonymousreply 134October 28, 2021 2:00 AM

Thank you R133, you gave me a good laugh.

I went out for a cup of tomato soup and some sushi for lunch. Unfortunately, it was whelming as another nearby patron was [italic]definitely[/italic] my type. The sushi wasn't bad, but I wouldn't get the soup again.

by Anonymousreply 139October 28, 2021 5:03 PM

London.

Went out to buy some fresh yeast for my bread making. Tried a `Turkish shop in Hammersmith. Most amazing shop I've ever been to. You wouldn't know from outside. I was quite overwhelmed. Went to a kitchen shop in Chiswick and bought a very fancy baking tin or whatever they're called. She said, when I went to pay "It's gone up to £24" (from £20 on the label). I stood my ground and said "You can't do that" - so she charged me £20.

Then went into a little art gallery and was overwhelmed by how many things I liked....I went out to buy yeast!! not art. Won't say what I bought.

I’m playing some vinyl this morning, after a random, serendipitous visit to a used record store that appeared in the middle of my errands yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 141October 28, 2021 5:59 PM

What did you buy, R141?

by Anonymousreply 142October 28, 2021 7:30 PM

i'm cradling my mug of coffee right now. I took an afternoon nap on this chilly, gray, rainy day.

by Anonymousreply 143October 28, 2021 11:29 PM

So, I decided to lay of weed for a month. I started Oct. 1.. Today is 28 days (4 weeks later). Enough? Or do I need to wait until Monday?

by Anonymousreply 144October 29, 2021 1:04 AM

In about 14 minutes I shall be eating part 2 of my dinner. Part 2 is Azekiel bread with Organic Unsalted Smooth Peanut Butter with Sliced Strawberries and Sliced Red Grapes. I found the recipe at Consumer Reports.

by Anonymousreply 145October 29, 2021 1:33 AM

I’m going to take a box of books to the charity shop this weekend.

by Anonymousreply 146October 29, 2021 1:38 AM

I dislike strawberries.

by Anonymousreply 147October 29, 2021 3:03 AM

I prepared to cook a box of Mac 'n Cheese, and at the last moment before I poured the shit box noodles into the boiling water, I said to myself "To hell with these bull shit noodles! I deserve better!" So I opted for a third of a box of Cream eggs elbow macaroni instead. AND when I stirred the powdered cheese, butter, and milk into the macaroni, I dated to melt TWO slices of American cheese into it, too! Aye. It was a good day...

by Anonymousreply 148October 29, 2021 3:11 AM

I was depressed because I saw a dead deer at the side of the road today (fairly remotish part of Canada). On the way back home there were hoards of bald eagles, ravens and turkey vultures snacking on it. Now, I don't know how to feel. I'm sorry for the deer, but conflicted because that one animal's death is providing food for other creatures. Circle of life, I suppose, but I'm still sorry that the poor deer had to die.

Do you read Bon Appétit to comparison-shop for a new car?

by Anonymousreply 150October 29, 2021 6:29 AM

R149 whelmed me with the unpleasant imagery in his reverie on the circle of life.

by Anonymousreply 151October 29, 2021 6:31 AM
So I opted for a third of a box of Cream eggs elbow macaroni instead.

What is Cream eggs elbow macaroni? Is it made with unsold Easter candy?

by Anonymousreply 152October 29, 2021 6:35 AM

Auto correct, R152. I meant to type, underwhelmingly, "Scream eggs macaroni."

by Anonymousreply 153October 29, 2021 11:08 AM

OK, no Cadbury, but are you using balut for a horror effect or something?

by Anonymousreply 154October 29, 2021 12:09 PM

On the news this morning, the lady that does the weather is wearing a silver sequined dress. The kind of dress you might see in a casino.

by Anonymousreply 155October 29, 2021 1:28 PM

Was the lady that does the weather the kind of woman you might see in a casino as well?

by Anonymousreply 156October 29, 2021 1:31 PM

R156, I just realized it’s her Halloween costume.

by Anonymousreply 157October 29, 2021 1:36 PM

London.

I'm so overwhelmed I can barely type. Just got my bread making machine from Amazon. It's WAY too complicated for me. I'm terrible with instructions. Most things I just work out intuitively, but this is my idea of hell. I'll have to pack it up and send it back.

by Anonymousreply 158October 29, 2021 2:15 PM

I'm going to take my 2.1 mile walk soon but first I have to finish my leg stretching exercises.

by Anonymousreply 159October 29, 2021 2:58 PM

what's the 0.1, R159?

by Anonymousreply 160October 29, 2021 3:00 PM

I just got back from my 2.1 mile walk and now I shall have a leisurely breakfast.

R160- That's the distance of my standard walk. I'm guessing. One of these days I've got to get into my car to measure it.

by Anonymousreply 161October 29, 2021 3:47 PM

Can’t you just have your cell phone track your distance as you walk?

by Anonymousreply 162October 29, 2021 3:51 PM

I haven't posted in a while about the crossing guard down the street who bellows greetings and waves maniacally at every passing car. She's still at it, more enthusiastically than ever. That corner is her stage where she puts on two matinees a day. I go out of my way to avoid her.

by Anonymousreply 163October 29, 2021 4:08 PM

R162- I didn't know my phone could do that. I'll check that out- for tomorrow's walk which is 3.5 miles ( that walk I measured with my car)

Thanks

by Anonymousreply 164October 29, 2021 4:16 PM

I'm raking and blowing leaves and there's a million of them. Ow, my back.

by Anonymousreply 165October 29, 2021 4:18 PM
What did you buy, [R141]?

The “Pennies from Heaven” soundtrack, a truncated “Carmina Burana”, and a Sophie Tucker album.

I have eclectic (or maybe just weird) taste

by Anonymousreply 166October 29, 2021 4:22 PM

R165–Why don’t you hire a strapping local youth?

by Anonymousreply 167October 29, 2021 4:28 PM

[R156]I just realized it’s her Halloween costume.

Who or what was she supposed to be?

by Anonymousreply 168October 29, 2021 6:01 PM

R168, I’m not really sure. I looked for her on Twitter and she posted something referring to the get-up as a costume. Maybe a casino dress wasn’t a good description.

I spent 330 dollars at Kroger today. I am not bragging, i was mortified. I just haven't bought groceries in awhile. I needed to stock up on some things. I bought 20 cans of fancy feast for my cats. It was 16.00.

by Anonymousreply 170October 29, 2021 9:19 PM

R170 - Grocery store checkouts are definitely whelming now.

by Anonymousreply 171October 29, 2021 9:24 PM

In 6 weeks, I’m going on holiday for the first time since 2019. I’ve eaten like a hog for 2 years, and I am now wondering how much weight I can lose in 6 weeks.

by Anonymousreply 172October 29, 2021 9:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 173October 29, 2021 9:46 PM

R172 where are you off to?

by Anonymousreply 174October 29, 2021 9:48 PM

R174, I’m going to Cologne, just for a long weekend. There will be lots of walking. I really need to try to lose some weight before I go.

An octogenarian anti-vaxxer has ruined one of my favorite sites with her bullshit. Most people cannot stand her but the owner (of the site) refuses to ban her for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 183October 30, 2021 5:38 AM

The odds of her being around much longer probably aren't great, R183.

by Anonymousreply 184October 30, 2021 5:53 AM

One week from today we change the clocks back one hour and we go from daylight savings time to Eastern Standard Time ( where I live).

by Anonymousreply 185October 30, 2021 12:39 PM

I bought no souvenirs when in Budapest a couple of years ago, so I had a coffee mug made at Zazzle using a photo from the trip; using it this morning prompted me to post that. Same for shirts from a couple of other destinations.

by Anonymousreply 186October 30, 2021 1:06 PM

This morning I'm not going to drink my usual ginger tea in the big green white mug with the white polka dots that I bought on Amazon because I'm taking a long walk today (3.5 miles) and I don't want to be a mile away from home and have to take a MAJOR leak.

by Anonymousreply 187October 30, 2021 1:12 PM

I walk 5 miles 5 times a week r187.

Walk first, hydrate after.

by Anonymousreply 188October 30, 2021 1:16 PM

I'm watering some of my plants. Now, I'm hungry and will make breakfast. There was a bee inside, so I tried to catch it with a glass and something to cover the opening, so I can release it outside. It failed, and can't see the bee anywhere. I'm worried about it.

by Anonymousreply 189October 30, 2021 1:17 PM

R188- I agree. I always drink a half liter of water when I get back from my walks even on the days when my walks are shorter. I see people - women mainly taking a walk and walking with a water bottle. Can't these FRAUS wait until they get home to drink water. It's not like their in Death Valley and it's 120 degrees. They're in a suburb of NYC and it's only 56 degrees.

by Anonymousreply 190October 30, 2021 1:20 PM

R189, I've been doing that, too, for years. Check out was I caught/released about six weeks ago. I'd never seen one before in my life, but it was resting right at the top of my wall. I hope to never see one again!

Holy cow R191! That is huge! Is that your hand displaying it? If so....you're very brave.

by Anonymousreply 192October 30, 2021 1:48 PM

Not my hand, but just a pic I found back then when I was trying to find out what it was. It's called a Great Black Wasp. I was glad to get him out the house without injury to him or myself! Have a great day!

by Anonymousreply 194October 30, 2021 3:54 PM

I’m supposed to make roast chicken for dinner tonight, but I really just want to eat chips and drink Pepsi.

by Anonymousreply 195October 30, 2021 4:19 PM

Surely, Diet Pepsi?

by Anonymousreply 196October 30, 2021 4:24 PM

R189 put some honey on the counter and be ready with your glass

by Anonymousreply 197October 30, 2021 4:44 PM

To R195...Roast Chicken is "extremely easy to cook". But when I get lazy, I buy the nearest grocery store Chicken, re-heat 30 minutes in the oven and it turns out perfect. What kind of chips, I love corn chips-doritos and Franks Black cherry& Birch Beer soda(I don't drink soda but every now &then) And Sourdough pretzels with onion dip.

by Anonymousreply 199October 30, 2021 6:32 PM

The parents in the neighborhood organized a Halloween block party with tables for candy set up outside the participating houses. They had the police close off all the streets locking me in. No notice. I guess notice is just for breeders. I’m not sure if this means they will not be trick or treating tomorrow. I bought some candy just in case. Hope I don’t have to eat it all.

by Anonymousreply 200October 30, 2021 9:11 PM

Ugh r200, I’m sorry. We were talking about our years in the old neighborhood today on our way home from lunch. My partner remembers it completely different than I do, but anyway I don’t miss Halloween there. We’ve been in a condo for 20 years now and families with kids are a rare sight.

by Anonymousreply 201October 30, 2021 10:01 PM

I want to spend all day at a bookstore

by Anonymousreply 202October 30, 2021 10:04 PM

I’m a weirdo. It’s 11pm here and I have just decided to cook. I decided to make chicken stock with the chicken instead of roasting it, so I have put that in the slow cooker. Then When the chicken meat is cooked, I will remove it from the slow cooker and use it tomorrow to make chicken and mushroom in a tomato cream sauce.

I might also make chilli to freeze now, to eat later in the week. I always do most of my cooking at the weekend, but not usually into the early hours of the morning.

by Anonymousreply 203October 30, 2021 10:17 PM

I got a Moderna booster and a flu shot today. Now I’m feeling a little nauseated, but I don’t know which one to blame.

by Anonymousreply 204October 30, 2021 10:30 PM

R204, if you have any stuff which is easily convertible into case, can I have it?

by Anonymousreply 205October 30, 2021 10:38 PM

Do you mean cash?

by Anonymousreply 206October 30, 2021 10:41 PM

No, r206, I meant caseS. I need a new set of luggage for post-Covid travel.

by Anonymousreply 207October 30, 2021 10:53 PM

R204

Someone I was chatting with at a social event recently told me that the flu shot did a number on her. I have to say that the day afterwards I wasn't feeling too well myself.

by Anonymousreply 208October 30, 2021 11:02 PM

I'm watching "Dracula Has Risen From the Grave" with Christopher Lee.

Whoever first observed that 75% of experiencing a movie is hearing the score knew what they were talking about.

The score is working far harder than the actors, and for a Hammer film, home of overwrought acting, that's saying something.

by Anonymousreply 209October 31, 2021 1:30 AM

Barry Andrews, in DHRFTG just showed his bare naked chest and abdomen in a gratuitous, superfluous incidental display.

by Anonymousreply 210October 31, 2021 1:43 AM

R210- How RISQUE!

by Anonymousreply 211October 31, 2021 2:19 AM

I binged yesterday and as a result I slept poorly last night. I'm still very tired tonight and it was supposed to rain and I don't like driving on rainy nights so I'm not going to the bathhouse tonight and as a result of that I won't be getting laid tonight.

by Anonymousreply 212October 31, 2021 2:22 AM

While rummaging through my attic yesterday, I found an ancient box of Tiddly Winks. I had no one to play with so I just played with myself....

by Anonymousreply 217October 31, 2021 5:02 PM

I'm going to Whole Foods soon. When I get back I will eat my lunch. Lunch today is one of my large salads and Vegan chick'n on a corn tortilla with vegenaise , lettuce and tomato.

by Anonymousreply 218October 31, 2021 5:07 PM

Today my Lunch consists of Reese Peanut Butter cups& Goldenberg Peanut Chews(big candy bar edition). Dinner is cooking right now, Peking Turkey(Thanks DL for the recipe)& Garlic& Herb Turkey. Best of all, I get to my dining room with the Good China( I have 4 sets) I'm letting my Daughter-in-law pick the set she wants to use(plus the silver). And she's cooking all the sides. And we're "scaring the shit out of the kids". The neighbors arrive at 2pm, the alcohol is ready!!

by Anonymousreply 219October 31, 2021 5:58 PM

I put air in one tire on my way to lunch. Seems that if the reading goes below 30psi my dashboard gets hijacked by an warning message until I do so.

by Anonymousreply 220October 31, 2021 6:16 PM

^A sudden snap of cold weather in the early Fall typically makes the tire pressure go down enough to trigger those sensors. I'm never sure if it's a real loss of pressure or just a climate thing.

by Anonymousreply 221October 31, 2021 10:37 PM

Twenty to 7:00. So far just one trick or treater. I think I’m going to take the candy out and bury it in the yard.

by Anonymousreply 222October 31, 2021 10:41 PM

I took a good sniff of my boyfriend's jockstrap before putting the clothes in the washing machine. He wore them earlier today while playing soccer with some friends.

by Anonymousreply 225October 31, 2021 10:44 PM

As if anyone on Datalounge has a boyfriend who plays soccer.

by Anonymousreply 226October 31, 2021 10:44 PM

Bought a Noco jump box, I'm charging it now. I hope I never have to use it.

by Anonymousreply 227October 31, 2021 11:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 228November 1, 2021 12:02 AM

by Anonymousreply 229November 1, 2021 7:56 AM

by Anonymousreply 231November 1, 2021 3:49 PM

A sense of utter futility and ennui is ceaselessly washing over me and eroding my joie de vivre.

by Anonymousreply 235November 1, 2021 9:26 PM

Knock it off R235, you're whelming me.

by Anonymousreply 236November 1, 2021 10:02 PM

Certain facts must be faced: We're entering a very whelming time of the year.

by Anonymousreply 237November 2, 2021 2:11 AM

I’m thinking of adding the word “perforce” to my everyday vocabulary. It seems to have gone out of fashion and I’d like to save it from extinction.

by Anonymousreply 238November 2, 2021 2:29 AM

Whatever scrapes off, r235, could you put a little pile of it in a small container and pass it along to me?

by Anonymousreply 239November 2, 2021 3:19 AM
I’m thinking of adding the word “perforce” to my everyday vocabulary. It seems to have gone out of fashion and I’d like to save it from extinction.

I myself have been trying to revive the use of the word "madcap," which one hears all the time in 1930s screwball comedies. "She's a madcap heiress from New York!" I believe we could all do with a bit more "madcap" in our lives.

by Anonymousreply 240November 2, 2021 5:21 AM

I agree r240. Frequent use of the word “madcap” would perforce lighten my mood and alleviate the aforementioned erosion of joie de vivre which has afflicted me recently.

by Anonymousreply 241November 2, 2021 11:59 AM

I'm fond of "Had I but known..." but was sternly warned against it as archaic here at DL.

Yesterday at a party, I tried two wines, and three types of cheese.

by Anonymousreply 242November 2, 2021 12:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 243November 2, 2021 1:03 PM

and GET the Corn tortillas

by Anonymousreply 244November 2, 2021 1:04 PM

I went to Whole Foods today and spent $24.99 on a box of FANCY SHMANCY cookies. I'm not going to eat them although they look yummy. I shall put them in the freezer and save them for a rainy/snowy day.

Therefore I shall have my cookies but NOT eat them too.

by Anonymousreply 253November 2, 2021 6:55 PM

I don't have a spare key to my car. I think I remember somebody told me that it would be an expensive one to get copied. I should look online.

by Anonymousreply 254November 2, 2021 7:00 PM

A lot of that car key business is highly proprietary nowadays. I've been told that only a Nissan dealer can deal with the electronic fobs that control my car (and which are of *very* crummy quality, apparently, and similarly very expensive to deal with).

Who didn’t see that one coming, r260. I, however, did throw out the extra Halloween candy. Well, most . . . or some.

by Anonymousreply 271November 3, 2021 4:25 PM

Stopped by Dollar Tree earlier knowing there was "something" I wanted from there, but what exactly I couldn't manage. Light bulb ON at the kleenex display. Woman ahead of me bought an entire cart of Christmas stuff; clerk had a rainbow button with a "she/they" message as well (which I found confusing). Perhaps an exciting adventure for the thread, but mundane as well...

by Anonymousreply 272November 3, 2021 4:55 PM

One of my beard hairs got stuck in my finger like it was a cactus thorn. I tried to use my tweezers but the points of it were glued together with Gorilla glue because my husband used them to make his Halloween costume. I now have to go buy new tweezers at CVS but I'll have to go after 4 p.m. because the cashier who works the day shift is walleyed and chatty. She reminds me of a witch and I can do nothing but cringe when she talks.

by Anonymousreply 273November 3, 2021 5:09 PM

So cringe, buy your tweezers and get on with your underwhelming life r273.

by Anonymousreply 274November 3, 2021 5:12 PM

No.

Spend extra money for good tweezers, OP. The best ones I think are made in Japan.

by Anonymousreply 278November 3, 2021 6:58 PM

My balls itch frequently. I wonder if it's the soap I bought at Costco that's causing it. When I take a shower I always soap up my BALLS.

by Anonymousreply 279November 3, 2021 7:06 PM

I value my pair of good tweezers as well!

by Anonymousreply 280November 3, 2021 7:07 PM

I don't go to WalMart and refuse to give them my business. The Target nearest me has everything under lock and key and I can never find a cashier. In fact, I got so irritated waiting for a cashier at the self checkout that I left ten dollars on the register and walked out...so, I probably can't go there anyway because I'm very likely on the cameras and it was about $30 worth of goods.

I did go to CVS and Witchie Poo was STILL there so I put in my earbuds and pretended to have a phone conversation so I wouldn't have to deal with her. There were no tweezers there so I just went to Joann's instead. So now my fave tweezers will be for crafts and the craft tweezers will be for everything else. It was a passive-aggressive move on my part but oh well.

I did my good deed for today. This afternoon I went shopping at Hmart. My tire light was on in my car and I have a portable tire inflator that I can plug into the outlet and put air in my tires- which I did. A girl came over asking if I had jumper cables. I gave them to her and told her when I was done putting air in my car I would help her/them. After I finished putting the air in my tires I drove my car to where they were stuck. The two girls ( one Asian and a blond girl) were about 25 or so years old and cute) if I were straight I would probably be fantasizing about a threesome. I didn't remember which clamp went where. The blond girl looked it up on her phone. I was sorta guessing if the clamps were correct. The one that sat in the car was almost able to start it so I knew that the clamps were correct. I turned my car on then she was able to start the car. They thanked me profusely. I said your welcome and went shopping at Hmart (Korean supermarket).

by Anonymousreply 286November 4, 2021 1:26 AM

R285...

The water here in Southwest Florida is rock hard, and tastes awful. OK for toothbrushing, swallowing pills, etc. but you really wouldn't want to drink it much as a beverage (though at restaurants I do). I refill gallon jugs of filter water at the supermarket for 35 cents each - they take cards, but add a 10 cent fee, a mark-up I'm just not willing to pay. Most of it goes in the coffeemaker, as much for nasty mineral buildup as taste. There's a plumbing company that advertises on television here showing a cross-section of a home drain with all of the heavy build up that they clear out regularly as a service, kinda like badly clogged arteries.

The bank teller told me that she also uses coins to refill water.

by Anonymousreply 287November 4, 2021 1:40 AM

Red to positive/black to negative battery terminals. You have to get this right each time, otherwise very bad things might happen.

by Anonymousreply 288November 4, 2021 1:59 AM

I have been asked to help someone jump start a car. It was a Walgreens parking lot. I said OK. I had a small, older car (Honda) and said: if your car won't start right away, don't keep trying. (It was a larger car than mine.) Sure enough, this guy kept cranking and I said stop already. (I didn't want my battery getting drained.)

Anyway, after that, I'll probably never do that again.

He had summer-colored skin

And not another man in town

My darling's heart could win

But when the leaves fell on the ground

And bully winds came around pushed them face down in the snow

He got the urge for going and I had to let him go

He got the urge for going

When the meadow grass was turning brown

And summertime was falling down and winter closing in

Not the least bit tempting. I was prepared to mock you

My dessicated, root-canaled-sepulchre of a tooth literally fell out of my mouth tonight when I bit into a bagel. No pain at all (the tooth has been dead for decades) but it gave me pause to remember that my DDS had warned me that my horrible teeth, treated or not, were not going to last forever.

by Anonymousreply 344November 7, 2021 2:16 AM

Wow, that sounds weird that your tooth just fell out.

by Anonymousreply 345November 7, 2021 3:13 AM

To be more specific, the dead pulp of the tooth fell out, roots and all (yes, it looks weird, too). A little shard of enamel remains, like a stalactite. Again, I'm without pain but will be seeing a DDS next week.

Eastern Standard Time will end my late afternoon, after work walks. I like to walk around 4:30 pm ET but it will now be dark at that time. I will try for a 30 minute walk at lunch time since I work from home 3 days a week but it won't have the same effect. I like to walk away the day's stresses.

On a better note, I have an Apple TV device that lets me add apps. I bought a TotalGym from WalMart in Dec 2020 but rarely use it. I just added that app so now I can stream the workout videos. I may finally get in shape! I have a doctor's appointment on Friday. Wonder if I can lose 10 lbs by 9:30 am on Friday!

R380- Why can't you walk at night? If you're worried about your safety then buy a reflector vest so cars can see you at night.

by Anonymousreply 381November 8, 2021 1:30 PM

Re walking: I tried a plan where you go out and walk for 10 minutes during the day, doing it as many times as you can work it into your day. You make a route, usually it's about 4 or 5 blocks around, and you time it, so you get exactly 10 minutes. I would go out and do it, optimally, every 2 hours. It DOES jack up your metabolism, and will induce weight loss, so long as you watch your diet (cutting out alcohol, dessert, etc.). It seemed to make me a lot more alert during the day, too. It works.

R380, there have been bear sightings around my condo complex. We are pretty much surrounded by woods on 3 sides. I wouldn't feel comfortable or safe walking once it got dark. But I do appreciate your suggestion.

R382, one lap around my complex loop is about 13 minutes. I could follow your suggestion but I don't see myself being able to get out every hour for 13 minutes at at time.

Shit R369 be careful! I call that a Bill Holden. Especially when you get old you don't even have to drink that much to fall down, although Holden was a lush. I've linked a picture of Holden for the youngsters.

At this point in my life, I would find moving to a different house on the same block overwhelming, let alone Portugal.

For years I thought the latest robot vacuum really was better than the last one & wouldn’t get caught on scatter rugs and doormats & would buy one around Black Friday. I didn’t anymore. They’re all crap and they scare my cats up the cat tree where they remain for hours til I come downstairs and rescue the upside down robot vacuum.

Here’s some fun trivia- Alison Arngrim’s mother was the voice for Sweet Polly Purebred on Underdog and the voice of Davey on Davey And Goliath.

by Anonymousreply 392November 8, 2021 7:10 PM

Of course, I heard Goliath's "Aw, Gee, Davey!" instead of Davey's voice when I read that.

Lunch today involved choosing a pancake flavor: carrot cake-pecan.

R380 here. I went for a walk between conference calls. It wasn't bad. Pre-COVID I would go for a 30 or so minute walk at 3 PM as many days as the weather, and my schedule, would allow.

For the person or people who are looking for Date Nut Bread, please see below. Paste the description into the Amazon search bar to find it. I can't post the link because its too long and comes in Spanish for some strange reason.

It's not as sticky and gooey as Thomas' Date Nut Bread but it has lots of walnuts. It was delicious with cream cheese and a cup of coffee. I hope you enjoy it if you buy it!

Firefox just prompted me to download the latest version and then let me pick a new colour scheme. In the late 80s Paula Abdul shilled some high-top Reeboks that featured a particular shade of coral. I coveted those shoes, her coolness (I was a child, I didn't know any better) and still covet that particular shade of pink-orange. Guess what Firefox colour I picked?

I'm more pleased with this than I should be.

I took my 2.1 mile walk in my suburban neighborhood this morning and some guy walking his dog and wearing a winter hat (even though it was about 52 degrees) he eyes stayed with me briefly as we walked by each other. Was this a QUEER moment? Maybe.

by Anonymousreply 402November 9, 2021 4:41 PM

My mom and I went to Trader Joe's, bought a wrap and a salad there along with groceries, and lunch after at her place. I made her covid booster appointment for next week as well.

Home now, am writing this after putting away all the snacks I shouldn't have gotten - at least their excellent crunchy Cheetos are low(er) fat!

by Anonymousreply 403November 9, 2021 5:34 PM

I made overnight steel cut oats in a crockpot and threw in a little maple syrup, pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger in the hopes that it would be seasonal. Left it on for 7 hours overnight on low. The house did not burn down and it didn't smell all that good in the morning - turns out it burnt a little around the edges. However, what remained was very tasty, if ugly. I made enough for the rest of the week.

by Anonymousreply 404November 9, 2021 5:47 PM

Mmmmm ugly food for the rest of the week!

by Anonymousreply 405November 9, 2021 6:35 PM

Bring the oats and the water to a boil, with a small amount of salt. Take it off the heat and let it cool for a couple of minutes, with the top on. Then wrap it up snuggly in a beach towel, completely. Go to bed. In the morning it will be perfectly cooked, all you have to do is heat it up a little bit. Re the toppings, you'll have to figure out whether to put them in at night or in the morning. This recipe results in perfectly cooked oats, no burning.

by Anonymousreply 406November 9, 2021 6:42 PM

R404, I eat steel-cut oats for breakfast. There's another way. I pre-soak them in water (refrigerator) in containers. In the morning, I microwave them. Helps to have a few raisins in there (won't boil over). The texture is really good and it's not so ugly.

by Anonymousreply 407November 9, 2021 6:44 PM

R402 maybe winter hat man was wondering why you weren't wearing a winter hat, especially with your morning bedhead.

by Anonymousreply 408November 9, 2021 6:45 PM

I only use rolled oats or barley both I cook stovetop in advance for the week

by Anonymousreply 409November 9, 2021 6:46 PM

R408- I was wearing a cap. So that's something. I meant to say- HIS eyes not he eyes.

It's almost all straight families as far as I know so I wouldn't expect to be checked out by anyone, although one morning I was taking my walk and two gay seeming guys were walking and talking. Maybe these two affluent queens decided they wanted to live the suburban lifestyle or maybe one of them had parents who lived in my town and they were staying there. Who knows.

by Anonymousreply 410November 9, 2021 6:57 PM

Thank you all for the recs for making my steel cut oats prettier and tastier. It made me smile today.

by Anonymousreply 411November 9, 2021 7:30 PM

I don't like steel cut things.

by Anonymousreply 412November 9, 2021 7:43 PM

R407, thanks for sharing that recipe. I've never made SCO because of the cooking time. My Mom used to make the old Quaker Oats for us in the winter and I always loved them. The instant oatmeal is just . . . blecch!

R413, I hope you try microwaving SCOs. It's a game-changer for me. Less mess, better texture, etc.

You might have to play around a little with the water to oats proportion. Also, you might try going less than full-blast (power) in your microwave. The effort is definitely worth it, IMO.

London

I'm house hunting. Saw an underwhelming house that looked so much better in the photos. I hate house hunting. I hate estate agents. I introduced myself to the owner of the house "Hi, I'm...." because I'm American and forgot the English don't do that and the agent smirked.

I once shook hands with an estate agent after he'd shown me a place and my British father was like "Why the fuck did you do that?"

It's odd all my Americanisms are coming back for some reason...I addressed a woman (store clerk?) in a supermarket as Ma'am yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 418November 9, 2021 9:38 PM
I addressed a woman (store clerk?) in a supermarket as Ma'am yesterday.

Oh no you DIDN’T!

by Anonymousreply 419November 9, 2021 10:31 PM

If you think about it saying "ma'am" and "sir" to supermarket workers and shaking hands with people like real estate agents when they've shown you a house, it's respectful and the British aren't respectful of such people. In France as well it's all "madame" and "monsieur" all the time.

In France you enter a train carriage and greet everyone. In England they'd think you were nuts.

by Anonymousreply 420November 9, 2021 11:01 PM

R420- I don't find the French polite. I've always found them to be RUDE.

by Anonymousreply 421November 9, 2021 11:09 PM

Maybe I mean formal in reference to the French.

Anyway, sorry for the underwhelming interlude - let's get back to steel-cut oats

by Anonymousreply 422November 9, 2021 11:25 PM

I've had to take a leak for ten minutes. But I haven't gotten up to go to the bathroom because I'm having too good a time posting at datalounge.

House hunting in London? You must be part of the .1%!

by Anonymousreply 424November 10, 2021 12:03 AM
[R420]- I don't find the French polite. I've always found them to be RUDE.

Supposedly, French people are rude when you don't greet them (a simple "bonjour") before launching into telling them what you need. Even at a bakery. You say, "Bonjour, may I have a _____."

Kind of nice, actually, to take a second to acknowledge a fellow human being with a hello first before telling them what you need.

I always thought that French people were rude, too. However, if and when I ever make it back to France, I will try saying bonjour first.

by Anonymousreply 425November 10, 2021 12:13 AM
However, if and when I ever make it back to France, I will try saying bonjour first.

Bonjour madame or monsieur and merci, madame et monsieur.

by Anonymousreply 426November 10, 2021 12:16 AM

Every country has its share of bad apples in the barrel, but I've found with French people if you are nice to them they're nice to you. The attitude they're supposed to spray like snake or skunk venom I've found more common in Spain.

by Anonymousreply 427November 10, 2021 12:17 AM

R418 Why are estate agents so hated in the UK if I might ask? I'm assuming they have a similar role as the real estate agent here in the U.S. but who are not generally despised, although their commissions can seem inflated for what they actually do.

by Anonymousreply 428November 10, 2021 12:18 AM

R427 I've heard that about Spain! Are they homophobes? My friend who is widely traveled said they were the rudest in Madrid. (He's super hot and was with his boyfriend but not demonstrative in public.)

by Anonymousreply 429November 10, 2021 12:22 AM
Why are estate agents so hated in the UK if I might ask? I'm assuming they have a similar role as the real estate agent here in the U.S. but who are not generally despised

that's interesting

& in the USA they get a much larger commission

But I can't answer your question, sorry.

by Anonymousreply 430November 10, 2021 12:22 AM

The French expect you to speak French with a French accent or they laugh at you - we don't expect them to speak English with an English or American accent.

by Anonymousreply 431November 10, 2021 12:24 AM

R431- They also expect you to think that French cuisine is superior to ALL other cuisines which I DON'T.

by Anonymousreply 432November 10, 2021 12:32 AM

R429: I wouldn't say homophobic, just not fond of foreigners.

I don't know as the French are as picky about accent, as amazed that an English speaker would do a half-decent job making a sincere effort.

Getting back to the theme of the thread, I'm underwhelmed by the pâté I bought a few days ago.

by Anonymousreply 433November 10, 2021 12:37 AM

R433, once upon a drunk time, my standby meal was goose liver paste with peppercorn aspic on Melba toast.

I find the ikea Christmas stuff expensive. So it's back to dollar tree for me or a second hand shop.

by Anonymousreply 444November 10, 2021 4:23 AM

I have six bath sheets now from IKEA. I used to have one that I used to use one week or more without washing. I decided to change my habit after watching our King of elleganza Nicolas Fairford. I also tried to buy luxury things second hand like baccarat wine glasses, V&B Place settings and waterford collectibles. Since I'm on a budget it's hard though

by Anonymousreply 445November 10, 2021 6:32 AM
I bought some new pillows and they're too firm.

How annoying! Personally I cant abide big expensive fluffy pillows that surround your head when you lie on them so you can't breath. Like overly-expensive sheets, with high thread count, but equally cant abide 100% cotton that feels like scratchy polyester. I bought some cheap 100% cotton sheets from amazon recently and they're perfect! I don't usually have this sort of luck. I was overwhelmed, actually.

by Anonymousreply 450November 10, 2021 2:46 PM

My poor cat. First the end of daylight savings messed up her schedule, now her favorite food is caught up in supply chain hell.

by Anonymousreply 451November 10, 2021 7:27 PM

Don't worry r451, she'll just pee on your bed.

by Anonymousreply 452November 10, 2021 7:48 PM

Is this what you call synchronicity? On our afternoon walk today, my friend pointed to some greenery and said, ‘Look — cactus.’ I thought he said ‘cat piss,’ and I was nearly whelmed.

by Anonymousreply 453November 10, 2021 10:35 PM

Spent time earlier figuring out sizes for some of my photos from trips to make decent framed prints.

by Anonymousreply 454November 10, 2021 11:07 PM

R451, hang in there. Cos's favorite, Fancy Feast Savory Centers (the variety AND individual cans) were hard for me to find for a while.

I was paying $13.99 for the 12-can variety pack. When I couldn't find it in any pet store, either in person or online, I had to resort to Amazon. I was paying $25+ for the same thing! Luckily, I'm now able to find the variety pack again and, when I do, I buy 2. I recently checked Amazon and someone was selling it for $30+.

by Anonymousreply 455November 11, 2021 2:27 PM

Thank goodness you guys know the struggle. Every time I talk about this on social media some schmuck has to barrel in and start a quite whelming discussion about the supply chain and how it's a can shortage, not a cat food shortage, like my cat gives a shit, or worse, suggesting that I start making my own cat food.
Two I will keep for myself ( an apple pie and a peach/blueberry crumb pie) which I will cut up and wrap each in aluminum foil and put and the freezer and save for a rainy or snowy day.

I tried that once but it wasn't very long before I declared a "weather emergency."

by Anonymousreply 499November 13, 2021 5:36 PM

I bought some flushable wipes on sale, but now I wonder if they're actually okay to flush.

by Anonymousreply 500November 13, 2021 5:56 PM

You're right to wonder, R500. Sometimes they flush, sometimes they don't. Depends on your terlet, I guess. Sorry if this whelms you.

by Anonymousreply 501November 13, 2021 6:30 PM

R501= E. Bunker

by Anonymousreply 502November 13, 2021 6:35 PM

It does whelm me, R501. I know they flush, but do they cause plumbing problems?

by Anonymousreply 503November 13, 2021 6:49 PM

That's what I was trying to get at, R503. I know someone who had a major toilet backup and overflow from using flushable wipes.

by Anonymousreply 504November 13, 2021 7:25 PM

Yeah, don't put those wipes down the toilet.

by Anonymousreply 505November 13, 2021 7:28 PM

Hostess towels?

by Anonymousreply 506November 13, 2021 7:29 PM

I still have dirty brown leaves from last year on the floor of my garage, on the side with the recycle bins .

by Anonymousreply 507November 13, 2021 8:08 PM

R507- You think you have it bad. I have a MAJOR accumulation of pine needles and those things that fall from maple trees in the grooves of the area that's exposed when I open the trunk of my 2017 Toyota Camry LE.

by Anonymousreply 508November 13, 2021 8:24 PM

I bought a shop vac so I can do something if my basement ever floods and I used it to vacuum up all the leaves and spider webs in my garage. Quite satisfying.

by Anonymousreply 509November 13, 2021 8:26 PM

I may try baking an apple pie later today. I've never baked one before but I bought premade pie crust so it doesn't seem too whelming.

by Anonymousreply 510November 13, 2021 8:29 PM

You bought premade pie crust so it doesn't seem it will be too tasty.

by Anonymousreply 511November 13, 2021 8:51 PM

Frozen pie crust isn't bad depending on the brand. I use them for meat pies sometimes too.

by Anonymousreply 512November 13, 2021 9:12 PM

I haven’t bothered with pie crusts in years, but there used to be a frozen brand that you unrolled and cut to your needs. I can’t remember the brand.

The pre-baked type, not my idea of good food, but for trial & error purposes I can see it. I guess you’re perfecting your filling then, r510?

by Anonymousreply 513November 13, 2021 9:24 PM

I've had chronic pelvic pain since last September. The pain travels around my pelvic area, flaring up every few minutes. My doctor has downplayed it, but it's seriously diminished my quality of life. I don't have a diagnosis, but according to Dr Google it sounds a lot like pudendal neuralgia.

On Monday, I realised I'd gone hours without any pain. The next morning, I still felt fine. It's Saturday now and the pain is still gone. I'm praying that I've finally healed. Waking up comfortable after fourteen months of near-constant pain is nothing short of heavenly.

by Anonymousreply 514November 13, 2021 10:15 PM

R510 if by "perfect" you mean "I've never made one before, haven't baked any kind of pie in years, and am using what looks like a straightforward recipe, then yes, I'm perfecting my filling! Using a frozen pie crust, for the record.

by Anonymousreply 515November 13, 2021 11:30 PM

R510- Maybe you should try Melissa Clark's latest recipe. Even the NYT can't FUCK UP an apple pie recipe.

Try making a "pate brisee" crust, which is a pressed (not rolled) crust. Even I can make it. Tastes like a shortbread cookie, so how can that be bad.

by Anonymousreply 517November 14, 2021 12:04 AM

I had an apple pie made with phyllo dough and it was delicious. Nice visually too.

by Anonymousreply 518November 14, 2021 12:26 AM

I had a Snickers bar and it didn't require any preparation at all!

by Anonymousreply 519November 14, 2021 12:29 AM

ILY R519. That made me laugh a long time.

by Anonymousreply 520November 14, 2021 12:45 AM

I'm happy to hear from you, R163. I was wondering about the crossing guard. Thanks for the update.

Watching The French Connection and wondering if Gene Hackman ever watches it.

by Anonymousreply 522November 14, 2021 1:28 AM

Try an apple galette. Just roll out your pastry in a rough circle (or square), lay out your apple filling on top of the pastry, fold the pastry edges over, et voila! A rustic apple pie.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 523November 14, 2021 3:45 AM

That galette apple pie may indeed be easy to make, but that is one ugly-looking dessert, at least in the photo. There's not much eye appeal to a dessert that looks like a bologna pie.

by Anonymousreply 524November 14, 2021 4:00 AM

R524-I agree. Apple pies are some much more beautiful looking and appetizing looking.

by Anonymousreply 525November 14, 2021 4:39 AM

I just got back from a bathhouse. It was 48 miles round trip. I didn't have any sex there. Oh well.

by Anonymousreply 526November 14, 2021 4:40 AM
I didn't have any sex there. Oh well.

Did they serve home-made apple pie?

by Anonymousreply 527November 14, 2021 8:20 AM

R527- I read that years ago there were bathhouses that actually served food on certain night. But that was in the OLDEN days.

by Anonymousreply 528November 14, 2021 12:54 PM
I read that years ago there were bathhouses that actually served food on certain night. But that was in the OLDEN days.

I find the idea of this vaguely unsanitary and therefore whelming.

This morning for the first time she texted she would be 15 minutes late.

I don’t remember Betty ever looking like that. Did she get an office job?

by Anonymousreply 538November 14, 2021 11:21 PM

Betty’s had many makeovers throughout the years. I think that was her “Corporate America” phase.

OMG. That sounds devastating, and debilitating.

I am praying for you!

by Anonymousreply 542November 15, 2021 12:10 AM

Eating plain yogurt. At least it won’t surprise me.

by Anonymousreply 543November 15, 2021 12:17 AM

R543- I can outdo you. I just finished eating a big amount of Plain NON fat Greek Yogurt.

In 1999 two things got me high- A CLEAR cruise from a HOT guy and a pint of Ben And Jerry's.

Now I just have to settle for the Ben And Jerry's.

I feel that I didn't really take advantage of pumpkin spice season this year, and now it's too late.

by Anonymousreply 546November 15, 2021 6:17 AM

Thanks for sharing about the shop vac, R509. I bought one years ago and want to vacuum the leaves and cobwebs from my garage. I wasn't sure if I could use it for that. I'm on vacation the week after Thanksgiving so I plan to tackle that project while I'm off.

My Cuisinart air fryer toaster oven died over the weekend. The knob that allows you to select what you want to do got stuck somehow. I, of course, tried to force it and it broke. I can use the oven and air fryer but it won't toast. I went to WalMart yesterday and bought a Black and Decker one for just under $40. Can I just throw the broken one in the garbage or should I take it to my recycling center like old computers?

by Anonymousreply 547November 15, 2021 12:43 PM

I took my mom's cat to the vet, yay kitty doesn't have cancer after all. My 92 year old mom is so happy.

by Anonymousreply 548November 15, 2021 1:58 PM

That's great news, R548! So happy kitty is OK.

by Anonymousreply 549November 15, 2021 2:05 PM

You recycle it as electronics, I believe, Cosmo.

I bought a snazzy-looking baby blue toaster oven when I moved into my place earlier this year. It does a great job broiling and toasting, but as an oven takes an eternity to reheat stuff.

by Anonymousreply 550November 15, 2021 2:15 PM

I bought 1200 led lights for my 8 feet xmas tree, i fear it;s not enough though.

feel guilty after eating three packets of cookies each carrying 4 pieces, they were delicious though.

was looking everywhere in town for a plate stand, couldn't find one anywhere.

bought some Kusmi earl gray tea, it took me to taste black tea at a neighbors house to really appreciate how aromatic and tasty it really is. was disappointed at first at €14 per 100 grams it better taste like a peace of heaven.

by Anonymousreply 551November 15, 2021 6:18 PM

I bought a large package of genmacha (green tea cut with rice) tea bags recently, along with a new thermos.

by Anonymousreply 552November 15, 2021 7:03 PM

Tea bags? [sniff]

by Anonymousreply 553November 15, 2021 8:53 PM

I did use loose genmacha previously, but circumstances make teabags necessary at present.

by Anonymousreply 554November 15, 2021 9:09 PM

london

I finally dropped off my Bread Maker at an Amazon pick-up place. Then I went into Tesco. I bought some apples and 2, 2 litres of milk. Then I went to McDonald's. I had to return the burger because it was cold. They're always cold for some reason. Suddenly Christmas trees and decorations are everywhere, but thankfully not the Christmas music. In America this used to drive me nuts.

by Anonymousreply 559November 16, 2021 7:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 560November 16, 2021 8:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 561November 16, 2021 8:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 566November 16, 2021 8:56 PM

[quoe] I'm not feeling any effects yet, but I still require a lie-down.—Anonymous

this I can relate to - I'm always lying down getting over something.

by Anonymousreply 567November 16, 2021 8:59 PM

I'm also due for a booster, but people are saying the after effects can be quite severe, so I'm finding it whelming to select a few days where I can take it easy after.

by Anonymousreply 568November 16, 2021 9:50 PM

70 degrees today in Kansas City. I worked in the garden for several hours. It was very satisfying.

by Anonymousreply 569November 16, 2021 10:10 PM

I drove behind a car today with a bumper sticker I HAVE PTSD. I immediately slowed down and kept my distance.

by Anonymousreply 570November 16, 2021 10:15 PM

Nice, R569. I've continued my afternoon lunch break walks as well. It's very relaxing.

by Anonymousreply 571November 16, 2021 10:16 PM

R570- I remember the bumper sticker in the 1980's that said - My Other Car Is A Rolls Royce

My brother had a bumper sticker attached to his old clunker that said- My Other Car Is A Piece Of Shit Too

by Anonymousreply 572November 16, 2021 10:46 PM

I had Taco Bell for lunch. It was delicious and I'm not ashamed.

by Anonymousreply 573November 17, 2021 7:23 AM

I have to go to a client meeting in Staten Island today. Not happy about it but I should miss both sets of rush hour traffic.

Ugh! I think I have a cavity. I called my dentist's office yesterday and the earliest they could give me was next Wednesday @ 12:45 pm unless they receive a cancellation. I'm hoping they don't call me today because there's no way I will be able to do that. Until then, it's soft foods and broths.

by Anonymousreply 574November 17, 2021 12:20 PM
I called my dentist's office yesterday and the earliest they could give me was next Wednesday @ 12:45 pm

Have you thought of finding another dentist, even if it's just for this procedure?

by Anonymousreply 575November 17, 2021 12:51 PM

Was at CVS earlier today. Long lines and only 2 cashiers (no self-checkouts, either). At some point, the manager tried to pull one cashier from the register. Cashier said no, the line is very long.

Confirmed my preference for Walgreens. The line in that store is never crazy long like that.

by Anonymousreply 576November 17, 2021 9:05 PM
I'm also due for a booster, but people are saying the after effects can be quite severe, so I'm finding it whelming to select a few days where I can take it easy after.

R566 here. I still feel no effects, more than 30 hours after getting my Moderna booster shot yesterday. Not even a sore arm. But I felt nothing after the first two shots, either, so I'm not surprised. I'm the Diana Morales of Covid vaccinations.

by Anonymousreply 577November 18, 2021 12:42 AM

I just got my COVID booster shot.

No reaction.

Typical.

by Anonymousreply 578November 18, 2021 12:51 AM

There was another bumper sticker in the 1980's that said- MADD ( Mothers Against Drunk Driving)

In response to that declaration there was a bumper sticker that said - DAMM ( Drunks Against Mad Mothers)

by Anonymousreply 579November 18, 2021 1:41 AM

That is very upsetting.

by Anonymousreply 580November 18, 2021 1:44 AM

To R579, I had 2 "DAMM" T-shirts at Northwestern in the 1980's. We were the last generation who could drink& drive(not get in trouble) Great times!!

by Anonymousreply 581November 18, 2021 5:21 AM

I saw a cute girl driving an old beater pickup with a bumper sticker that said "If you're gonna ride my ass at least pull my hair". I'll bet her friends love her, she must be so much fun.

by Anonymousreply 582November 18, 2021 6:06 AM

I never felt the need for a bumper sticker or vanity plate, or even a t-shirt with my name on it. I have a common name so even these days when everyone is up your ass I am still pretty anonymous.

by Anonymousreply 583November 18, 2021 7:30 AM

I feel the same way - no need to waste money on a vanity plate, and bumper stickers can ruin your car's paint job.

by Anonymousreply 584November 18, 2021 10:03 AM

While I don't miss the hazards of driving in ice and snow up north, I think I'll stick closer to home today to avoid the predicted thunderstorms, usually accompanied by squalls.

As I'm a champion procrastinator, plenty of stuff I can get done without going out.

by Anonymousreply 585November 18, 2021 12:45 PM

R575, I did think about calling another dentist but it's not THAT urgent that I see someone sooner. This dentist is pretty fantastic and a huge improvement over my previous dental practice. He's saving a tooth the previous dentist told me to have pulled. I can stand to lose a few pounds anyway so a soft food diet for a week won't kill me.

by Anonymousreply 586November 18, 2021 1:36 PM

Good luck R586! I hope the procedure is not too whelming. May I suggest listening to a relaxing playlist or podcast over noise canceling headphones while they do it.

by Anonymousreply 587November 18, 2021 6:20 PM

I had a blood draw the other day. The technician wasn't super friendly, but she really stared at my arm, found the vein (not easy to see on my arm), tapped at it a bit. Needle didn't hurt at all. I really appreciated it and I told her thank you.

by Anonymousreply 588November 18, 2021 6:23 PM

Thank you, R587! I'm way ahead of you. I do listen to a podcast while in the chair. It's usually stupid stuff but maybe I'll listen to the TCM podcast.

by Anonymousreply 589November 18, 2021 7:13 PM

Pity there isn't a Datalounge podcast.

by Anonymousreply 590November 18, 2021 7:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 591November 18, 2021 8:55 PM

My Belgian holiday cookies have been violated (by me). No hope they will last til xmas. I lied to myself when I bought them.

by Anonymousreply 592November 18, 2021 8:57 PM

I walked by a junkyard today, and the guard dog did not seem mean at all. He lay on his side in the hot sun, one eye cocked open, enjoying a little snooze.

I didn’t get close, mind you.

by Anonymousreply 593November 19, 2021 2:35 AM

I'm erect. Why aren't you?

by Anonymousreply 594November 19, 2021 2:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 595November 19, 2021 9:13 AM

If you are whelmed by an erection, you do NOT belong on the Datalounge.
