It’s her fault. She should not have been enjoying a day out. She should have ordered her beverage and other purchases on line, delivered and consumed in the safety of her fully bolted home.

Maybe homeless people should have homes, and maybe people with mental issues should be able to get medical care. It's not like the problem is just going to go away just because you find it inconvenient and annoying.

Please. This is nothing.

This statement is so ignorant. I work outreach for a Honolulu homeless shelter. These folks do not want housing that is offered. They reject any sort of orderly living arrangement. They reject rules and want to do anything they want without boundaries.
They come for our nightly meal and then back on the streets to harass and steal from the tourists and retail. No matter how much money you throw at programs, it is the nature of these folks that needs to be changed. And heaven help you if a 5150 hold determines they are a threat to society and themselves. You have the local ACLU and Legal Services crawling up your ass.

That homeless woman is THIRTY-FIVE?! Is that what the newscaster said?

Too funny- I’d been sitting at that very table a week before this incident. The suspect also is frequently at the Dunkin Donuts nearby where she likes to scream at customers and passers by. She’s one of the well-known free-range individuals in the neighborhood.
I’ve recently seen a couple of junkies shooting up and passed out in Athens Square Park and other spots in the neighborhood as well.
Old Astoria is back, baby!

The "attack" was more silly than terrifying. Hell, the kid wasn't even terrified. If he'd been terrified he would have gotten up and ran away. Just more exaggerated titles to news stories to get people to click the link.

How old are you? Do you remember when there were not a lot of homeless people in the US? How do you explain the fact that there weren't this many homeless people on the streets (if any) 50 years ago? If some of these people reject housing, then they're mentally ill, and maybe should be institutionalized. That's probably better than being on the street. Oh, wait - unfortunately back in the 1970s some experts decided people could be released from institutions and given wonder drugs, and the institutions closed. How did that work out?
You speak as if there is no possible solution to this problem, as if this is just the new normal. I don't know what to say about that attitude.
Back in 1966 the LA Times published a story about a homeless family living out of their car. When people wrote in asking how they could help the family, the paper revealed the piece was speculative and there was no such family - and the conditions that would lead to a whole family living out of their car were impossible to imagine at that time. Cut to now, when thousands of people in LA live in their cars and vehicles. That's acceptable? You think all those people want to be living in their cars, and would reject housing? As well as the people who live in tents because they were evicted for inability to pay rent? Come on.

Huh, R16, almost lie the US media has been glamorizing this sort of thing for a very long time. Almost like people have been playing into their hands. How weird.

R12 - do the homeless a favor and find another line of work. You'd probably find the job of your dreams at a no-mercy, end of the road animal "shelter."
