Gary Paulsen, Author of Sixth Grade Summer Reading Classic “Hatchet,” is DEAD to ME

I remember reading Hatchet and thinking, no way could I land a single-engine Cessna alone.

I read Hatchet over and over in the 3rd or 4th grade, I was also obsessed with Harriet Tubman and any other stories about people who survived on their own. I think as a gayling I somehow knew that I should learn to be self sufficient!
