What happened to limousines?

You don’t really see them anymore. Even celebs don’t even use them much now. I can’t remember the last time I saw a limo. Are the passé now?

How do they make turns? I’d like to see one go down Lombard Street.

They all went to live at the airport

Don't they use big fat SUVs now?

by Anonymousreply 3October 6, 2021 7:03 AM

No one speaks of pavilions anymore, and that saddens me.

by Anonymousreply 4October 6, 2021 7:10 AM

Yeah it’s all about loaded SUVs nowadays.

I can't say I've seen any stretched limos for years now. Even the humongous stretch SUVs.

But, when was the last time you saw a convoy of cars decked out for a wedding? I'd say about 20 years ago!

by Anonymousreply 6October 6, 2021 1:57 PM

Passenger vans are much more in vogue these days.

White limos are awful. Black as well, but at least they're not as euro-trash. I have always wanted to cruise around Vince Neil style in the type with a hot tub.

Limos died in the 80's. In the 90's Lincoln Town Cars, and eventually SUVs became the preferred method for transporting the rich (especially due to heightened security concerns).

Limos are tacky AF.

Yes. Better armor

Do limos have seatbelts?

by Anonymousreply 13October 6, 2021 4:41 PM

I knew a professional welder who made stretch limos. They aren't built that way--you literally just weld together two vehicles. He warned me never to ride in one because in an accident they just split at the seams.

by Anonymousreply 14October 6, 2021 4:43 PM

They're not safe. Don't forget the wedding limo accident in New York three years ago where 20 people died

No, they cut one vehicle in half and weld frame extensions before reconnecting the two sections.

Limos are tacky. But I do miss town cars.

Luxed out sprinter vans are better and safer for more people. For just a couple of people, stretch limos are (rightly) viewed as garish. Range Rover will suffice.

Cadillac funeral hearses are made the same as stretch limousines. In fact the same manufacturing plant usually makes both in the same building.
