Remember when Josh Hawley raised his fist in support of the Jan 6th Capitol Hill attack?

Shouldn’t this guy be hauled before a committee or something? People died and he was cheering them on.

This is so anti-American. Who are his donors?

It seems that some sort of investigation is in order. Where was he on Jan 5th?

Ted Cruz gave a floor speech today mocking Dems for complaining about this.

[bold] Hawley threatens to block national security nominees unless Austin and Blinken resign over Afghanistan [/bold]
Hawley’s legislative threat to block the nominations is mostly symbolic and comes as he attempts to position himself as a leading critic of the White House. Because Democrats control the Senate, Hawley can effectively only delay Biden’s nominations, but his move will force Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) to go through procedural hurdles on the Senate floor, rather than move quickly with a pro forma vote that is more common for nominees to lower-profile posts.
Hawley’s efforts “would undermine U.S. national security and its interests,” Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told CNN.
“There is no chance that the threat will ‘work’ in forcing the secretaries” to resign, said Eric Schickler, a politics professor at the University of California at Berkeley. “But Republicans have [made] Democrats choose between staffing the executive branch and spending time on legislation.”

It seems like every time he comes up on television, everyone prefaces their criticisms by talking about HOW VERY VERY SMART he is—YALE LAW, after all!!—and then they say he should know better. I have no fucking idea why every commentator and pundit and host does that. He doesn't have any credibility. I don't care where he went to school. You can argue he is intelligent, but he's a fucking idiot for joining the alt-right treason brigade.

GOP is a disgrace

by Anonymousreply 6September 28, 2021 11:03 PM

Nancy Pelosi saved democracy on Jan 6.

Insurrectionist Trump, his insurrectionist followers and Repug members of Congress had planned to delay the Electoral College certification with the cooperation of Pence. Then they were hoping with the delay that Samuel Alito (he has jurisdiction over Washington DC) sitting on the Supreme Court would step in and bring things to a halt and ultimately declare that there was enough discrepancy to call for a recounting of all the ballots in the swing states.

What Trump and his violent sycophants were not counting on is Nancy Pelosi calling the House of Representatives back into session later that very same day to continue the Electoral College certification and make the vote official and final.
Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), the chair of the committee, told Forbes on Monday that they are planning “a good number” of new subpoenas which could come as soon as “this week.”
Thompson said those subpoenas will go to a “similar” but “broader” group than the last round, adding that he thinks it will include Capitol riot defendants, who, he said, could offer testimony on “the facts and circumstances as to why they came to Washington.”

Hawley is not going anywhere.

Deplorables love Trump because they hate the Meritocracy and they know that Meritocrats consider Trump to be a dumb boor and something of a joke.

Whereas Hawley is just a Meritocrat who espouses conservative ideals, but he's still in the "Thinks He's Better Than Us Because He Went To A Fancy College" category.

by Anonymousreply 25September 28, 2021 11:35 PM

^^And yes Trump went to a "fancy college" too, but they don't seem to feel that he thinks that makes him special, that somehow he remained "a regular guy" despite it.

It's not a rational thought process.

by Anonymousreply 26September 28, 2021 11:39 PM

One can be book smart and a horrible person at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 27September 28, 2021 11:42 PM

U Penn is the bottom of the fancy colleges. But Trump does have some sort of psyco-pathology about status.

by Anonymousreply 28September 28, 2021 11:42 PM

R26 It's not that they think Trump is an average Joe. It's that he is vulgar and brash and allegedly a billionaire. Pew has studied the values of working class voters, and while they tend to resent middle-class achievers, they paradoxically admire people who hold great wealth because they view them as a realization of the American dream and it gives them hope they can be like him. He's also entirely uncivilized and while he isn't really Christian, he is a devout "prosperity gospel" believer, and that translates well to evangelicals who hope that they can pray or will their ways to the top.

by Anonymousreply 35September 29, 2021 12:01 AM

Pompeo is Harvard Law too.

by Anonymousreply 36September 29, 2021 12:17 AM

It's a little more complicated that that R29

They resent Meritocrats because in a traditional aristocracy you were not upper class because you were not born into it and being born poor or middle class was something that could not be helped.

But in a Meritocracy, you are no upper class because you are stupid. Or at least that is the message they are getting: these people were raised up from the middle classes because they are smart and if you weren't stupid, you could join them too.

Hence the double appeal of Trump who is both born into his (alleged) wealth and whose boorishness draws the ire of the Meritocrats. Trump empowers them because he represents a type of success that does not threaten them--inherited wealth, versus someone like Hillary, a middle class girl whose success came about because she was smart.

[bold] Dozens of nominations have been held up by a fight between the Texas senator and the Biden administration over a Russian gas pipeline project. [/bold]

A bitter fight with Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, over a Russian gas pipeline has created what Biden officials call a personnel crisis, with Mr. Cruz delaying dozens of State Department nominees, including 59 would-be ambassadors, and vowing to block dozens more.

Democrats call Mr. Cruz’s actions an abuse of the nomination process and the latest example of Washington’s eroding political norms. They also say he is endangering national security at a time when only about a quarter of key national security positions have been filled.

[...]

It is one that has attracted an imitator: Senator Josh Hawley, Republican of Missouri, is vowing to block all national security nominees over the Biden administration’s handling of Afghanistan, insisting he will not budge until Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser, resign.

[...]

In mid-May, Mr. Biden waived congressionally imposed sanctions on the project. Critics say the deal will provide President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia leverage over European energy security and deal a blow to Washington’s ally Ukraine, which operates a competing pipeline. But the project is a boon for Germany, and Mr. Biden — pleading that the project was nearly complete and virtually impossible to stop — decided to prioritize relations with Germany, a key European ally, rather than risk a battle with Chancellor Angela Merkel and her soon-to-be-successor.

[...]

Mr. Menendez suggested that Mr. Schumer could call a weekend Senate session, which would force senators to spend their days off plowing through nominations.

“Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley are not paying any consequences,” Mr. Menendez said. “But when members have to be here on a weekend, voting only on these things that are passing overwhelmingly in a bipartisan vote, I think peer pressure might be brought to bear.”

There is no coincidence. This has nothing to do with foreign powers. That's a ridiculous excuse for what the Republicans have been doing for a long time.

Look, Trump is a result of decades of Republicans doing everything to hold onto power. The GOP is a dying party specifically because demographics are not in their favor. We have a senate, supreme court and state level gerrymandering which are not a reflection of the actual populace. McConnell isn't doing what he does for some foreign power.

This about the Kochs and the Mercers and the Princes. Foreign powers don't have to do shit because we have homegrown enemies who will and have done far more damage solely to hold onto power.

This comes to a fundamental issue of free speech. With freedom comes responsibility, and free speech is definitely one freedom where there is little or no sense of responsibility at all.

What I do believe the Republicans want is to set up an authoritarian form of government that is ultimately anti-democratic. And there are a number of people out there who are just fine with that idea...as long as they perceive that it benefits them (regardless of whether it really does or not).

TX did not just gerrymander the fucking hell out of predominantly non-white districts for China. TX (and other states) aren't making rape victims go through with an unwanted pregnancy for Russia. AZ didn't go through with some bullshit fraudit for Iran

This is tantamount to the "mentally ill" excuse given whenever the shooter is some white terrorist.

Why can’t people seriously mow these fuckers down? I mean if they are threat to the security and stability of our country why do these a-holes get a free pass? When does free speech become a carte blanche to destroy democracy?

by Anonymousreply 112October 15, 2021 11:23 PM

Yale and Harvard for the most part are designer degrees,

A study showed 45% of white Harvard students are legacy, athletes, related to donors or related to staff.

I’m sure other Ivy leagues are similar if not more.

So these idiots with Ivy League degrees are no surprise.

by Anonymousreply 113October 15, 2021 11:41 PM

R113, that's why I've always had disdain for people who scream about affirm. action. The Ivies aren't letting in black C-students who take a spot away from a white, A+ student. They're giving an A- black student the break. If you have a problem with it, why aren't you bitching about the moronic Dubyas and Kushners of the world? Those are the ones who should anger you and cheapen the degree.

by Anonymousreply 114October 15, 2021 11:47 PM

Oh, they do, r114.

Any white dude with an ivy league degree is generally a smug prick and best avoided at all costs.

Never forget.

We'll all be dead before that happens.

Whoever took that photo should get a Pulitzer. That photo will haunt him for the rest of his lame political life, esp if he is misguided enough to try to make a run for the Presidency.

He is a class A, opportunistic DICK!!

by Anonymousreply 120October 25, 2021 3:57 PM

I think a lot of people forgot about this and it should be recirculating through social media. It would get tons of likes and go viral. If anyone is struggling with followers this will sure you up.

Post, retweet and report back all the likes and RTs.

Good luck!

Didn’t he marry his homely wife for her family’s money?

And now he’s quoting Bible scriptures?

Who does he think he is fooling?

by Anonymousreply 122October 25, 2021 4:21 PM

The irony of that little cracker throwing a Black Power fist.

by Anonymousreply 123October 25, 2021 4:36 PM

This would go rip roaring through twitter. Any takers?

by Anonymousreply 124October 25, 2021 4:37 PM

(Fist) bump

by Anonymousreply 125October 25, 2021 5:48 PM

Bottom line, I'd still like to fuck around with him.

by Anonymousreply 126October 25, 2021 6:36 PM

No he would rather throw you in a private prison. It’s not going to happen dude. Keep dreaming.

by Anonymousreply 127October 25, 2021 6:43 PM

His toothless redneck bible beating voters, r122.

Every last one a raging hypocrite.

by Anonymousreply 128October 26, 2021 12:15 AM

Let's be honest, R128: He has zero respect for his supporters. No Republican official has respect for their moronic supporters. Because most of them know you'd have to be a stupid pile of shit to support such a repugnant party.

by Anonymousreply 129October 26, 2021 1:29 AM

Oh, absolutely, r129.

He thinks they're dumbasses who will vote for him no matter how vile he is or WHAT he does.

And he's right. Most of those toothless meth heads are so brainwashed by Fux and reich wing media that they think he's great.

by Anonymousreply 130October 26, 2021 2:17 AM

You know I'd never heard Hawley speak in person so the other day I was flipping the dial and my first impulse when I saw the guy on the screen was who is the cute gay guy? (then I listened to what he was saying and saw who he was. Still think he's gay though.)

by Anonymousreply 136October 30, 2021 4:57 AM

R136, He is incredibly fuckable.

by Anonymousreply 137October 30, 2021 1:38 PM

Disgusting human being. Last year when I was visiting Washington DC I ran into him, and he offered to reenact his fist-raising stance, but as he lifted his arm he farted on my face!
