Why did they change the name to One World Trade Center? Have you been up in it? Does it have a huge mall in the basement like the originals? Do you know anyone who works there?

Because it’s a commercial enterprise, not a monument. The shopping mall runs under the entire complex, centered on the Oculus.

Worked in the building for 2 years, 2018-2020. In some ways, the condition of some of the floors surprised me. It was almost like the office had been around for 20 years, versus less than 10. Dusty and quite dirty, worn, etc. Could have just been the company I worked for (you can probably guess which one), but overall it was nothing special.

The WTC mall was to service the workers and commuters who passed through it. It was not a shopping destination. Now, the Oculus mall and what used to be the World Financial Center mall (Brookfield Place) are full of expensive shops. I don’t see how they can make any money.
