James Brolin on love of work, and love of Barbra

The actor who came to fame (and won an Emmy) on the 1970s TV series "Marcus Welby, M.D.," James Brolin, has appeared in scores of films and TV shows since, and is currently the narrator of the new Netflix sci-fi series, "Sweet Tooth." Correspondent Tracy Smith talks with Brolin, now 81, about his continued love of work, and about his 23-year marriage to singer Barbra Streisand.

Marcus Welby, MD," “Hotel” and “Amityville Horror." And he was almost James Bond. He still looks good at 81. Nice house.

Mr. Barbra Streisand.

His show "Life In Pieces" deserved better.

deserved better what?

He looks fantastic for his age and so handsome and sexy. He's a superior specimen of the human race. Gays won't see this of course.

But that garden all green and water features in droughty California is an abomination.

One thing I will say he must have a strong, secure male ego to go all these years as Mr. Barbra Streisand and to measure up to her perfectionism

I’m conjuring some Radio&TV Mirror article about him wanting to be a better father. He looked hot in the late 70s. I loved The Car, with a score by Leonard Rosenman.

Early cancellation. One more season and they would have been syndicated.

Life in Pieces was great and definitely deserved to be treated better that it was in its final season.

James Brolin was very good as the clueless family patriarch. It takes a skilled actor to play dumb so effectively.

Very underrated actor.

by Anonymousreply 11September 21, 2021 2:41 PM

One of those rare actors who only appears to get sexier with age.

by Anonymousreply 12September 21, 2021 3:44 PM

He mentions that he & Streisand have to have marriage counselors & "referrees" (interesting that he uses that word in particular) to assist in their communication.

by Anonymousreply 13September 21, 2021 4:36 PM

I have to admit I’m really jealous of Barbra.

Funny episode where Brolin as the father is in the hospital for overdosing on Viagra, wearing a hospital gown in bed and everyone accidentally sees his big dick and the two sons complain they didn't inherit it.

Wow, he’s 81? He seriously looks as good as anyone I’ve seen that age.. and I can’t detect any surgery.

Bill's thirty-two. He looks thirty-two. He looked it five years ago, he'll look it twenty years from now. I hate men.

by Anonymousreply 20September 22, 2021 11:33 PM

Guess third time really was the charm for him in respect to marriages.
