It's good news and a good read, despite being The Independent.

Denis Macshane has gone totally batshit over Brexit. He's unable to think or analyse situations without looking through the prism of Brexit.
He's also a hugely discredited figure. Convicted of expenses fraud and sent to prison, he used to represent Rotherham and claims he had no knowledge of the child grooming by mostly Pakistani Muslim men, later saying he had an idea but didn't want to "rock the boat".
Macshane is currently in a relationship with Vicky Pryce, the ex wife of disgraced MP Chris Huhne. Both of them went to prison after Huhne cheated on her and she revealed she had accepted penalty points for him when he was caught speeding.

R3 Glad you brought it up.
He not only admitted later that he should have looked into the reports of the Asian grooming gangs in Rotherham, but the term he actually used for not doing so was, "I didn't want to rock the multicultural boat . . ."
So he helped throw about 1200 Anglo girls to the Muslim wolves who operated in the area with impunity for 15 years. Rotherham stands as one of the great racial/ethnic debacles in Britain, with Macshane and the liberal left, about whose fortunes he's so pleased right now, primarily responsible.
Trudeau barely got back in without the majority he assumed he'd get yesterday. And the "left" in places like Norway and Germany isn't the same as the left in Britain.
Meanwhile, Trudeau's hubris in calling a totally unnecessary and expensive election in the middle of a pandemic wasn't lost even on the Canafiand who grudgingly gave him a third term, but left him 13 seats short of a majority - again- whilst the Conservatives were on 122 seats last I looked.
The left hasn't gotten carte blanche to run the world.
And if Macshane is its standard bearer, probably a good thing.

It should make the British people even more satisfied with being out of the EU.

Yes, the English should savor being laughed at by the rest of the world as a bunch of chinless dumbfucks who still think there's an empire and whose northern neighbors will soon vote to leave them. Brexit has left the UK as an international afterthought. No one (not even the US) gives a shit about their opinion (see Afghanistan).

The British set themselves free from the EU empire.

Yes, congrats on that. Now you can be a third-tier power, utterly dependent on the EU for the vast majority of your trade with almost nothing you can do about setting policies. They don't even speak English there any more.
How humiliating.
