Now this AUKUS should be interesting. The Anglo world joins hands to counter China!

We will see how this works out. Why isn't Canada a part of it? Maybe it will work better without Boris.

Is this Biden's initiative, or has this been in the works from before? Will this pan out to be an economic partnership as well you think.

Please- No dumb bitchy remarks trying to pass vulgarity for wit. TIA.

Isn't this just a development of the Five Eyes, but without Canada - currently in election mode - and New Zealand, which has made clear it will accept China's genocide of the Uighur people because China are such important trading partners.

The European Union and its member states send strongly worded tweets about China and Russia and Belarus but they do fuck all about it.

by Anonymousreply 1September 16, 2021 11:28 AM

Canada’s not involved this time because it doesn’t have the ability to project a military/naval presence in the Far East (or is that West?) Pacific region. It along with NZ are still part of the UKUSA (five eyes) alliance.

by Anonymousreply 2September 16, 2021 11:31 AM

Time stand up to shithole, plague-spreading China. Now we will know if those shitty made-in-shithole-China aircraft carriers are any good.

by Anonymousreply 3September 16, 2021 11:49 AM

[quote] Maybe it will work better without Boris.

Johnsons one positive impact on foreign policy ever really is he really hates China over the Hong Kong violation and has been pushing for an anti Chinese alliance for the last few years which is why he invited Australia, India and South Korea when he was hosting the G7.

What do you have in mind, OP?

What are you anxious about?

by Anonymousreply 6September 16, 2021 12:39 PM

In the video conference between the three today, Joe Biden called Australian prime minister Scott Morrison "The fellow from downunder".

🤣😂

R7 Short-term memory loss is the first sign of senility.

by Anonymousreply 8September 16, 2021 1:17 PM

I'm sure it was deliberate. Joe Biden knows Scott Morrison would have preferred Trump.

[Quote] Canada’s not involved this time because it doesn’t have the ability to project a military/naval presence in the Far East

WTH is Vancouver doing there then sitting like a bump on a log?

[Quote] What do you have in mind, OP What are you anxious about?

That people like you r6 will be tedious without adding anything to the discussion.

by Anonymousreply 10September 16, 2021 5:50 PM

This seemed like a poorly executed PR stunt by Scott from marketing.

AUKUS is toets awks!

by Anonymousreply 11September 16, 2021 7:08 PM

So far its main result has been pissing the French off. An anglosphere speciality.

I don't get the "threat to the international rules-based order" from China claiming some rocks in the South China Sea. Countries in SE Asia have a problem with that, but they also have territorial issues with each other over the same rocks.

Also, those rocks that Japan took from China totally should be returned to China, or at least Taiwan. Japan shouldn't be allowed to keep any territory they acquired from their imperial adventures through WWII.

This just screams insecurity, but also a desperation that they can provoke China into a fight. I think China sees the angles just as well. I don't think it'll be fooled. China would love it if the West just keeps wasting money on arms.

by Anonymousreply 13September 16, 2021 7:18 PM

Australia is such a vassal state. It's pathetic. Desperate need for US approval. Same with the UK.

Where will the EU stand in all this I wonder.

France is already miffed about the nuclear submarine deal with Australia hijacked by the US under the new Aukus thingy. Angela is leaving at the end of the year.

by Anonymousreply 21September 17, 2021 5:45 AM

“This is a deal for nuclear submarines, which Canada is not currently or anytime soon in the market for,” he (Trudeau) said when pressed about Canada’s absence from the deal on Thursday.

[quote] China would love it if the West just keeps wasting money on arms.

Yes that’s why they’re so happy about this pact.

How are the Australians going to afford multiple nuclear submarines? I’m not saying Australia is a poor country by any stretch, but the country has quite a small military to defend a nation the territorial size of the USA, and now they will have a FLEET of incredibly expensive submarines?

by Anonymousreply 24September 17, 2021 6:13 AM

Does this mean that we are going to war with China?

by Anonymousreply 25September 17, 2021 6:18 AM

R22 try another one Justin.

by Anonymousreply 26September 17, 2021 6:56 AM

[quote]How are the Australians going to afford multiple nuclear submarines?

Apparently the Australian finance minister can’t say how much it will cost, which isn’t a surprise considering how much money Australia wastes on submarines or planes while harassing welfare recipients over mistaken debts until they kill themselves.

by Anonymousreply 27September 17, 2021 6:57 AM

Canada won't do anything right now that can be construed as anti China. There are Canadian citizens facing espionage charges there, as well as the extradition case of the Huawei woman.

You can circle the dragon but no one will dare poke at it.

by Anonymousreply 28September 17, 2021 7:05 AM

So only 3 of the five eyes will be sharing secrets ?

by Anonymousreply 29September 17, 2021 8:09 AM

China should be boycotting all Australian goods soon. Have fun with those submarines.

by Anonymousreply 30September 17, 2021 8:16 AM

R27 = Welfare recipient.

The Australian finance minister has to manage and prioritise big payments and small payments.

by Anonymousreply 31September 17, 2021 11:37 AM

[quote]So only 3 of the five eyes will be sharing secrets ?

This is unrelated to the five eyes treaty. It's just about the sharing of nuclear submarine technology. If and when Canada decides to acquire the same tech no doubt there will be some new CAUKUS treaty signed and the focus will be on stopping Russia in the Arctic.

by Anonymousreply 32September 17, 2021 3:32 PM

Apparently the deal, even with more expensive nuclear technology and after 'penalty payments' to the French, will still be cheaper than the old deal. I'm guessing the U.K. and U.S. have offered Australia good terms.

It also shouldn't come as complete surprise - The Times stated that Australia has been unhappy with French conditions, including the reduced Australian production under their terms, and the ever increasing costs (which have nearly doubled) on top of the unacceptably lengthening delays.

by Anonymousreply 33September 17, 2021 4:02 PM

The military industrial complex wins again. I'm glad they have another cash cow after the Taliban booted them out from Afghanistan.

by Anonymousreply 37September 17, 2021 9:22 PM

How much does Biden or Blinken have do with this?

by Anonymousreply 38September 17, 2021 9:24 PM

The Australians couldn’t even win a war against Emus.

by Anonymousreply 39September 17, 2021 9:24 PM

Oh, R39, you wouldn't know a emu if it bit you. The Australian army proved its worth in Libya and North Africa in the 1940s.

by Anonymousreply 40September 17, 2021 9:57 PM

R38 They are the ones behind it. Biden did a whole video conference with Scomo and Bojo to announce this.

r42 They were already a target for nuclear strikes if it comes to that. Even without this new deal Australia was a key US ally in the region. As is New Zealand when it comes down to it and their refusal to accept anything packed with Uranium will be DEEPLY worthless then

by Anonymousreply 43September 18, 2021 2:01 AM

R43 Countries like Australia and New Zealand are too insignificant for China to target. But if they have or want to gain nuclear capabilities, then that's a whole different ball game.

by Anonymousreply 44September 18, 2021 2:09 AM

AUKUSH.

by Anonymousreply 45September 18, 2021 2:09 AM

r44 They were targets because they're obvious naval bases for the US Pacific fleet. which is China's only opposition in the event of WW3. Also "But if they have or want to gain nuclear capabilities" A nuclear POWERED submarine is not the same thing as a nuclear ARMED submarine. If you genuinely thought the UK and US were arming Australia with the bomb you're a retard.

So predictable. Western powers are settling on Sinophobia as the defining value uniting the western world after years of exploiting Islamophobia for that same effect. It's so fortunate that, just as the west gives up on the Middle East and sets its eyes on the Far East, something like the Uygur Genocide™ takes place.

by Anonymousreply 48September 18, 2021 9:55 AM

Has China actually apologized for Covid19 yet? Or are they still blaming Australia for exporting contaminated frozen meat.

Let's just look a couple of years ahead. The rest of the world will ask for compensation from China for the millions of lives lost and the billions of economic damage. Esp if it can be proven that the virus escaped, because of low security standards from the Wuhan lab. And for China not alerting the world about this virus and for not agreeing to an independent investigation into the origins of covid.

by Anonymousreply 49September 18, 2021 10:27 AM

Nobody is going to ask for any compensation. The virus escaped from China, probably that lab in Wuhan. The Chinese are denying, as always. But nobody is going to ask for reparations. And the Chinese wouldn't pay anyway.

by Anonymousreply 50September 18, 2021 2:35 PM

If the virus escaped because the Wuhan lab was sloppy with security, the whole world indeed should ask for compensation from China.

by Anonymousreply 51September 18, 2021 4:12 PM

You can't build a military alliance only on the sale of some nuclear submarines.

What else. What gives.

Kamala wimps out

Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday called for countries to embrace COVID-19 “transparency” and “accountability” – without directly calling out China’s refusal to come clean about the origins of the pandemic.

Harris made the remark while announcing that the Biden administration would give $250 million to a new World Bank pandemic preparedness fund and request another $850 million from Congress.
