Tasteful Friends: I’m speechless in Detroit

“Every aspect of ‘Lion Gate Estate’ has been articulated with painstaking attention to detail and mind blowing decorative flair. ”

It looks like a beauty parlor in Canarsie, Queens that mob connected sanitation workers' mothers would frequent weekly.

by Anonymousreply 1September 14, 2021 10:42 PM

This is the first time my vocabulary has failed me...

by Anonymousreply 2September 14, 2021 10:45 PM

I really needed a cocktail warning, as in "please have had five or six martinis under your belt before viewing".

by Anonymousreply 3September 14, 2021 10:45 PM

I can't wait to see how the owners decorate it for Christmas!!

by Anonymousreply 4September 14, 2021 10:47 PM

It must be a cemetery, correct? There must be dead people buried under all those statues...

by Anonymousreply 5September 14, 2021 10:48 PM

"Hideous" barely begins to describe this abortion of a home.

by Anonymousreply 6September 14, 2021 10:49 PM

Are those crypts in the center of those bedrooms?

by Anonymousreply 7September 14, 2021 10:54 PM

What's fascinating to me is that it's not just awful, it's six different kinds of awful. They've got a kitsch cabaret, Kath & Kim's kitchen, Liberace's boudoir, an 80s music video set, Jareth The Goblin King's spare bedroom....it's so bizarre!

More AD and less ADHD please!

by Anonymousreply 8September 14, 2021 10:55 PM

This was a whorehouse, right?

by Anonymousreply 9September 14, 2021 10:57 PM

I think the partially finished dungeon is the selling point for me.

by Anonymousreply 10September 14, 2021 10:58 PM

Is that their TV up on top of that cupboard in this room, or is that a screen used for something else? If so, they’d need binoculars to see it.

And is the ceiling pattern actually carpet?

by Anonymousreply 11September 14, 2021 10:59 PM

Whoa, I think that's one of the worst ones ever posted here. WTF were they thinking?

by Anonymousreply 12September 14, 2021 11:02 PM

It's just....it's just....yeah, it is

by Anonymousreply 13September 14, 2021 11:03 PM

Is it in a bad neighborhood? Those are some snazzy bars on the windows.

by Anonymousreply 14September 14, 2021 11:09 PM

[quote]And is the ceiling pattern actually carpet?

Who cares what it is, just lick it to bust open the doors of perception.

by Anonymousreply 15September 14, 2021 11:13 PM

They've been trying to sell this for years. I guess it's kind of "taste specific"

by Anonymousreply 16September 14, 2021 11:20 PM

Be extra-careful with your Merlot in that living room.

by Anonymousreply 17September 14, 2021 11:26 PM

Italians. I know it.

by Anonymousreply 18September 14, 2021 11:43 PM

I didn't know that Miss Helen Keller decorated homes in Detroit

by Anonymousreply 19September 14, 2021 11:47 PM

Why did this happen?

by Anonymousreply 20September 14, 2021 11:51 PM

Don’t you think it’s an elder gay that lived/died there?

by Anonymousreply 21September 14, 2021 11:57 PM

Only shown on sunny days? You'd think they want to show it with the least light possible.

by Anonymousreply 22September 15, 2021 12:05 AM

The whole house is a fever dream

I love the statutory!

by Anonymousreply 25September 15, 2021 12:09 AM

The Franklin Mint Showroom.

by Anonymousreply 26September 15, 2021 12:12 AM

It's very close to upscale Palmer Woods where you can buy a much nicer home for not too much more.

by Anonymousreply 27September 15, 2021 12:13 AM

Honestly, it is all of the furnishings that are atrocious. If you took out everything in it and took off all of the horrible white wrought iron outside, it wouldn't be nearly as horrendous. There have been much worse houses posted here.

by Anonymousreply 28September 15, 2021 12:14 AM

R18 Most likely Chaldeans. That's their old neighborhood, but most of them left for the burbs years ago. No way are they getting 345k in that area.

by Anonymousreply 29September 15, 2021 12:15 AM

Overall quite hideous, but I do spot a few things here and there I rather like. Like that end table with Buddha(?) faces . The wrought iron is ghastly on the house granted, but it is rather pretty in and of itself. I could see using that in a garden . You gotta give credit, they damn sure decided on a theme and stuck to it!

by Anonymousreply 30September 15, 2021 12:18 AM

I remember this house from the Tasteful Friends the last time it was on sale. Still hideous.

by Anonymousreply 31September 15, 2021 12:18 AM

Well, they committed to.... something. And they stuck with it. Whatever it may be

by Anonymousreply 32September 15, 2021 12:20 AM

Was there a blow out sale on statues on Wayfair?

by Anonymousreply 33September 15, 2021 12:20 AM

So we’re agreed it’s a truly awful place. I do rather wonder a couple of things, however. Did they not have people over who would remark on the much muchness of the decor? No friend or relative who suggested that they rein it in a bit?

And why would you try to sell a place that looks difficult to sell to begin with, and not even to empty it out? If all “Tasteful Friends” posts were pitted against one another I think OP has found the #1 seed.

by Anonymousreply 34September 15, 2021 12:44 AM

Here's the story on the house and its owner. The price is substantially reduced from the original listing price. With some of the things that go with the house, it seems like quite the bargain.

"I love the statutory! "

Looks more like "statutory" rape

by Anonymousreply 36September 15, 2021 4:31 AM

The article at R35 makes it pretty clear the owner is gay. No mention of a wife, renovation worked was with help of a male “friend.” The basement was a cabaret…

by Anonymousreply 37September 15, 2021 4:37 AM

I'm sure this house was posted here long ago. Hard to believe it hasn't yet sold...

by Anonymousreply 38September 15, 2021 4:40 AM

Oh...my. That was an absolute assault on the eyeballs. I think the upstairs harvest gold den/living room had a crocheted carpet on the ceiling.

by Anonymousreply 39September 15, 2021 4:44 AM

there is only men's cologne in the master bathroom..............gay???
