I am watching it right now and it’s not something to take serious. It’s a lot of fun and has great pacing. I’m enjoying it more than I expected.
It is stupid fun. Drags a little in the middle but it's definitely worth a watch if you like OTT horror.

R1 i thought the first 1/3 of the film was good and then the middle dragged a bit but was still interesting and then the last act is over the top and silly but fun.

Derek had a hot ass, but he couldn't live forever...
Or more than 10 minutes, actually.

He was abusive. Good riddance.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 11, 2021 11:18 AM |
The trailer for this was terrible. Is it Drag Me To Hell type fun?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 11, 2021 2:24 PM |
R5 yes.
The first half feels more classic horror and then the second half it goes super camp

[quote]take serious
Oh, dear.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 11, 2021 2:37 PM |
Just finished watching it and the obvious wig of the lead bothered me from the very start. Worst than Nicole Kidman's but this one made sense. Lol.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 11, 2021 9:31 PM |
Why in god's name would her sister explore an abandoned mental hospital, at night, ALONE? This made as much sense as someone reading the evil words in the Necronomicon just cuz.

If Madison's birth mother was 15 in 1985, she would be 50 in this movie's timeline. That actor is 37 tops.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 12, 2021 11:09 PM |
R10 That actress is 49. She was in Uncle Buck and on the tv show Yes, Dear.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 12, 2021 11:42 PM |
It was a dumb fun movie but lifted heavily from 80s B-movie gross fest "Basket Case" which I fucking love!
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 12, 2021 11:43 PM |
Kekeo was hot! Did he make it in the end?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 13, 2021 12:49 AM |
R13 Nope.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 13, 2021 1:30 AM |
Last 30 minutes or so made it worthwhile - campy fun.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 13, 2021 1:40 AM |
There is a George Young thread
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 13, 2021 2:20 AM |
I liked it. There were so many influences in it. It was almost as fun tracking the influences (Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Halloween II, Sisters, Hellraiser, The Ring, etc.) as it was watching the movie. Even the deliberately cheesy dialogue in the very beginning and very end was evocative of ‘80s B-movie horror. The lead actress reminded me of Tanya Roberts.

they shoudl've shown George Young shirtless with his hairy chest!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 13, 2021 11:18 PM |
R19 how would they add that scene without seeming exploitative
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 13, 2021 11:27 PM |
He and the blond sister could've hooked up or at least started to make out and undress before Gabriel attacks them.
Or Gabriel coudl've ripped his shirt off during a fight! :)
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 13, 2021 11:30 PM |
That Gabriel was nothing but issues!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 13, 2021 11:42 PM |
I want a Gabriel action figure! Business in the front, party in the back.

Director James Wan who did "Saw" likes his torture porn. Some great shots though, the lead running thru the house with the camera high above and the room changing to the the Doctors house so she can see what's happening.

The stupid sword is shitty writing and screams sequel..
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 18, 2021 2:55 AM |
Unintentionally funny and resembled a video game.

I checked rotten tomatoes expecting a 45 fresh rating but it's at 75 percent. I was floored that this schlock fest received positive reviews.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 19, 2021 11:57 PM |
r27 because the film knows what it is... you are taking the film more serious than the film takes itself
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 19, 2021 11:58 PM |
R28 You're probably right. I guess i just wasn't expecting to chuckle throughout the film.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 20, 2021 12:01 AM |
R19, your wish was ALMOST granted, but it got cut out:
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 20, 2021 12:28 AM |
Well it feels like a horror film made for young people.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 20, 2021 9:17 AM |
Wasn't scary for a second but that last half hour was just nutz.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 20, 2021 2:00 PM |
I want to rub my face all over George Young's bare chest.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 20, 2021 11:12 PM |
I watched this and thought it was lame before I learned it was SUPPOSED to be kooky in an 80s kind of way. But if I cannot tell it's intentional until I read about it elsewhere, did the filmmaker do his job?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 21, 2021 12:48 AM |
I don’t find his movies particularly scary, but Wan is a pretty coherent storyteller, which is more than can be said for a lot of horror filmmakers.
Actually the first 1/2 to 2/3 of Insidious was damn scary, until he ruined it by pouring on exhibition.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 21, 2021 12:52 AM |
[quote] until he ruined it by pouring on exhibition.
Huh?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 21, 2021 12:02 PM |
Is Wan an Orthodox Jew? He always seems to put his actresses in these awful sheitels. It's bizarre.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 21, 2021 1:40 PM |
Insidious was great until the final act.
