Per the article, he was a ‘joy boy’.

by Anonymousreply 1September 4, 2021 7:59 PM

Shhhhhad.

by Anonymousreply 2September 4, 2021 8:04 PM

I thought he was already dead.

*ducks head in embarrassment*

The last thing I want is Willard Scott spread R5.

by Anonymousreply 6September 4, 2021 8:31 PM

How sad.. Dead now but in his prime, he could fuck all night long! I'm going to miss that crazy nut.

by Anonymousreply 7September 4, 2021 8:35 PM

Part of the Mary Tyler Moore Show Curse? There was a weatherman on that show.

by Anonymousreply 8September 4, 2021 8:55 PM

I also thought he was already dead.

by Anonymousreply 9September 4, 2021 9:14 PM

He didn’t die years ago? Really?

by Anonymousreply 10September 4, 2021 9:14 PM

R3 same.

In any case, RIP. He was a cornball but good at his job

by Anonymousreply 11September 4, 2021 9:16 PM

Sad. I always really liked hi folksy charm. He seemed very kind. I always hoped he would live to 100 and get the celebratory treatment he gave centenarians on the Today Show.

by Anonymousreply 12September 4, 2021 9:17 PM

R5, that actually made me sad.

R.I.P. Willard Scott

by Anonymousreply 13September 4, 2021 9:29 PM

And now to you Katie and Matt.

Goodbye. Thanks for the memories. RIP, Sir.

by Anonymousreply 14September 4, 2021 9:38 PM

Katie Couric has spoken.

I also thought he was dead. I swear to god I thought he died years ago. Like, YEARS ago.

by Anonymousreply 16September 4, 2021 10:04 PM

He had a nice ass but he couldn't weather life's storms forever.

by Anonymousreply 17September 4, 2021 10:17 PM

Was he one of the gheys?

by Anonymousreply 18September 4, 2021 10:38 PM

Willard we hardly knew ye. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 19September 4, 2021 10:41 PM

30 years too late!

by Anonymousreply 20September 4, 2021 10:44 PM

Has Gene Shalit commented yet?

by Anonymousreply 21September 4, 2021 10:56 PM

He was fat as fuck so coronavirus?

by Anonymousreply 22September 4, 2021 11:01 PM

r7 = Jane Pauley

by Anonymousreply 23September 4, 2021 11:02 PM

I could not stand his little bit. The ancient people who were always spotlighted looked so hideous in their photos.

by Anonymousreply 24September 4, 2021 11:06 PM

It's a challenge to forecast national weather.

by Anonymousreply 25September 4, 2021 11:10 PM

My one lasting memory of Willard Scott (and I watched him daily for years while getting ready for middle and high school in the 90s) is from the morning when Susan Smith was arrested for drowning her little kids, and they had been discussing it on the Today Show in a segment just prior to cutting to Willard’s weather segment or whatever he was doing, and he broke down crying and said something about “…those poor souls”. I remember thinking “come on weatherman, get it together,” but in hindsight he was just a decent guy who couldn’t help it.

RIP

by Anonymousreply 26September 4, 2021 11:40 PM

Meteorology professionals were enraged when THE TODAY SHOW hired a clown to replace an actual weatherman.

by Anonymousreply 27September 4, 2021 11:46 PM

Kinda sad the he didn't get to celebrate his 100th birthday.

by Anonymousreply 28September 5, 2021 12:06 AM

When I was a little kid, my sister and I were in the audience of his Bozo show. He said my sister looked like a hot dog. I laughed and he asked what was I laughing at--I looked like a hamburger. (Well, my sister was skinny as a rail and I was a fat little fuck.)

So my four-year-old self was thinking "you fat old geezer." And went on hating him.

From an adult point-of-view, I found him endearing. He was apparently devastated over the loss of his wife, so I hope he has now found some peace.

by Anonymousreply 29September 5, 2021 12:13 AM

Sad, OP?

Why?

Do you still remember when he mispronounced your name two weeks after you turned 100, because your great-great grand niece didn't know your exact birthday?

by Anonymousreply 30September 5, 2021 12:18 AM

[quote] He was apparently devastated over the loss of his wife,

I hope after that happened his time on the "Today Show' didn't coincide with Kathie Lee Gifford's .

by Anonymousreply 31September 5, 2021 12:18 AM

Aw, they won't get to wish him a Happy 100th birthday, and I was sure he was close to it -- just 87?

by Anonymousreply 32September 5, 2021 12:24 AM

The ONLY thing I ever liked about Willard Scott was that he hated Bryant Gumball's arrogant ass.

by Anonymousreply 33September 5, 2021 12:26 AM

I thought he was already dead too, but sad to hear of his confirmed death.

by Anonymousreply 34September 5, 2021 12:30 AM

Somewhere in New York, Al Roker is smiling.

by Anonymousreply 35September 5, 2021 12:47 AM

Do you remember his brief recurring role on VALERIE/THE HOGAN FAMILY? As Edie McClurg's husband? I don't think. that lasted very long.

by Anonymousreply 36September 5, 2021 12:50 AM

R35 Probably not. Al said Willard was his “second dad.”

R33- Do you remember if WS ever insulted, mocked him or ever . " Zinged" him? I really disliked BG and was so glad when he retired.

I thought he was still on tv. Really. I wonder when the last time Katie Couric called him to say hello if she was so "heartbroken".

From the photo posted by thehill, it seems they caught him at the exact moment of his death.

Sad??

Was he fighting an oil rig fire in the Gulf of Mexico?

by Anonymousreply 42September 5, 2021 3:40 AM

He wouldn't even get an interview in today's environment. You gotta be hot!

by Anonymousreply 43September 5, 2021 3:54 AM

R43 today’s requirements are: big tits, no brains and/or circuit gay. Nicole Kidman in To Die For is the model.

by Anonymousreply 44September 5, 2021 4:33 AM

LOL, R41.

by Anonymousreply 45September 5, 2021 5:49 AM

This obituary is full of code phrases.

“Willard was a man of his times...” If he were working today he would be fired immediately.

“No gimmick was too much for Scott.” We tried to make him realize this was a classy show but he wouldn’t listen.

“He got dressed as Santa Claus at the National Tree-Lighting Ceremony in Washington, D.C. for several years throughout the '80s,” Even though we begged him to stop.

"I think people are so drawn to Willard, they really just want to be a part of his orbit and that includes first ladies," former TODAY anchor Katie Couric said about the encounter. The concept of personal space was foreign to him.

“He was married to wife Mary Dwyer Scott from 1959 until she died in 2002. They had two children.” Who are now glad to let the angels deal with his stale jokes.

by Anonymousreply 46September 5, 2021 8:43 AM

At first I was kind of surprised that he had died because I thought he was recently included on some kind of Today Show anniversary, but I think I'm thinking of last years' 40th anniversary, which wasn't actually that recent.

by Anonymousreply 47September 5, 2021 9:00 AM

(quote]Al said Willard was his “second dad.”

Love how people come up with this bullshit after someone's death.

Willard Scott was of an era when actors and models and CLOWNS delivered the weather. All they needed was a pointer and a script. Scott was a relic, and I rejoiced when the retired (didn't renew) him.

by Anonymousreply 48September 5, 2021 2:17 PM

R36--Mr. Poole!
