Florida Again: Toddler Shoots and Kills Mother on Zoom Call

I did a search and didn't find a thread. ---------------------------------------------------- A toddler in Florida fatally shot a woman during a video call after finding an unsecured handgun, police said Thursday.

Someone on the work-related Zoom conference called 911 and reported that they had seen a toddler and heard a noise before the woman, Shamaya Lynn, fell backward, police said in a statement.

Lynn, 21, was killed Wednesday in Altamonte Springs, near Orlando.

"Investigators determined that the injury was caused by a toddler who found a loaded handgun, which was left unsecured by an adult in the apartment," Altamonte Springs police said in a statement. Police said Lynn was shot in the head.

The police statement did not identify the relationship, but NBC affiliate WESH of Orlando reported that police said she was the toddler's mother.

Investigators said the handgun belonged to the father of the victim's two young children, the station reported. Neither child was injured.

"If you own a firearm, please keep it locked and secured," Police Officer Roberto Ruiz Jr. said. "Incidents like this could be avoided."

There were at least 369 unintentional shootings by children younger than 18 last year, with 142 deaths, according to the gun control advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety, which tracks reports.

I never understand stories/people like this. I grew up going to many, many redneck homes filled with firearms. The guns were always secured, especially when children were around.

by Anonymousreply 3August 13, 2021 4:06 PM

Well. That Zoom meeting sure ended with a bang.

by Anonymousreply 4August 13, 2021 4:07 PM

I mean...no words; every day there's some story that blows my mind.

I never had kids. Too much responsibility

Some day this child will learn he/she killed their own mother.

That'll fuck him/her up.

by Anonymousreply 5August 13, 2021 4:07 PM

What are the chances a toddler has the strength to not only pull the trigger but hit her right in the head?

by Anonymousreply 6August 13, 2021 4:08 PM

That was no accident. The toddler knew what it was doing.

by Anonymousreply 7August 13, 2021 4:09 PM

Police report the toddler would say only “Bitch took my sippy cup.”

by Anonymousreply 8August 13, 2021 4:09 PM

My father had a handgun in his night stand drawer until the day he died. We grew up knowing it was in there, and we also knew if we touched it our ass would be grass. He also taught us how to handle guns at a pretty young age,so we always knew they werent a toy. Maybe its a southern thing.

by Anonymousreply 9August 13, 2021 4:09 PM

[quote]Investigators say the handgun belonged to the father of the victim's two young children. An investigation is ongoing as detectives work with the Seminole County State Attorney's Office concerning if any charges will be filed against the dad.

It's Florida, there will no charges, the father will plead the kid was standing their ground.

by Anonymousreply 10August 13, 2021 4:11 PM

Too bad Darwin didn't work his magic before the parents bred.

by Anonymousreply 11August 13, 2021 4:12 PM

This reminded me of the toddler who was sitting in the backseat of a car, found a gun under the front seat and accidentally shot his mother. When I did a search I discovered at least four different articles matching this description.

Killer Tot kills Tot Mom!

by Anonymousreply 17August 13, 2021 4:29 PM

Nobody puts baby in a corner!

by Anonymousreply 18August 13, 2021 4:33 PM

Clearly the mother deserved it. No way a toddler would have shot her if she was loving and nurturing

by Anonymousreply 19August 13, 2021 4:38 PM

Well I never in all my life!

by Anonymousreply 20August 13, 2021 4:40 PM

It figures that one of the 4 also was in Florida and was a gun nut. Clearly, the Zoom Call killer is a Florida man/woman in training.

by Anonymousreply 21August 13, 2021 4:46 PM

[quote]I grew up going to many, many redneck homes filled with firearms. The guns were always secured, especially when children were around.

I did too, until the 1990s. I absolutely remember when multiple families I knew who had gun safes and locking gun cabinets started buying these open-air display cases with maybe a plexiglass door on them, using them to hold a dozen semi-automatics they got at gun shows along with their Rush Limbaugh and 2nd Amendment bumper stickers.

There's something about modern gun culture that makes people very cavalier about gun safety.

by Anonymousreply 22August 13, 2021 4:52 PM

“We’re gonna ZOOM, ZOOM, ZOOM-A-ZOOM.”

"Come on give it a BANG. THUD."

Because they've now gone from being a tool to be used for defense to a political accessory.

We found the successor to "Florida Man."

It's Florida Toddler!

by Anonymousreply 30August 13, 2021 5:24 PM

Is the toddler's name Stewie?

by Anonymousreply 31August 13, 2021 5:30 PM

Wait. He shot her via Zoom?

That’s one exceptional “toddler”!

by Anonymousreply 35August 13, 2021 5:55 PM

If the mother had also been armed, maybe this wouldn't have happened.

by Anonymousreply 36August 13, 2021 6:04 PM

One should wait until the child's fourth birthday before giving him or her handguns. Only shotguns are appropriate for toddlers.

by Anonymousreply 37August 13, 2021 6:15 PM

Another feel good story

by Anonymousreply 38August 13, 2021 6:21 PM

Let me guess the kid's name is Trayvon Martin.

by Anonymousreply 39August 13, 2021 6:24 PM

This wouldn't have happened if she listened to me.

by Anonymousreply 40August 13, 2021 6:30 PM

Same, R3. And I grew up in one of those homes, and we never had a problem, because my father took us out, & showed us what those guns could do. We never touched them without direct permission.

by Anonymousreply 41August 13, 2021 6:30 PM

If only I'd been on that Zoom call.

by Anonymousreply 42August 13, 2021 6:36 PM

It was more like a Bang! Zoom! call.

by Anonymousreply 43August 13, 2021 6:45 PM

Could this be the perfect murder orchestrated by the dad?

"Hey, Tommy -- remember the 'bang bang, you're dead!' game we played? Mommy wants to play that game now. Go get the gun off the table behind Mommy and play the game with her."

And there are Zoom witnesses, so...

by Anonymousreply 45August 13, 2021 6:51 PM

Just when you think Florida’s come up with the best WTFery ever, they manage to take it up a notch.

Sad stupid tragedy.

by Anonymousreply 46August 13, 2021 6:57 PM

R44 You'd better copyright your plot there before Law & Odor gets a hold of it.

by Anonymousreply 47August 13, 2021 6:58 PM

Darwin

by Anonymousreply 48August 13, 2021 6:58 PM

This is the best thread ever. Hollywood needs to make Baby Hitman a movie asap.

by Anonymousreply 49August 13, 2021 7:05 PM

[quote] What are the chances a toddler has the strength to not only pull the trigger but hit her right in the head?

R6 - 100% - It actually happened.

by Anonymousreply 50August 13, 2021 7:12 PM

Culling the deplorable herd.

by Anonymousreply 51August 13, 2021 7:34 PM

Stop or my baby will shoot.

by Anonymousreply 52August 13, 2021 7:40 PM

R47, too late! Dashiell Hammett actually used this ideas in one of his early novels, "The Dain Curse." There is a nifty 1978 mini series based on it.

Boss Baby 3: Mob Boss Baby

The child is getting a free, all-expense paid trip to Mar-a-Lago. Sponsored by George Soros Travel, Inc.

by Anonymousreply 55August 13, 2021 11:09 PM

The mother probably had was unvaccinated, had COVID, and was going to die anyway.

by Anonymousreply 56August 14, 2021 12:26 AM

If only the mother had her own gun...

by Anonymousreply 57August 14, 2021 6:26 AM

Look who's shooting now!

by Anonymousreply 58August 14, 2021 6:31 AM

These kids do seem to be pretty accurate with a first shot. Beginner’s luck?

by Anonymousreply 59August 14, 2021 7:13 AM

ENOUGH FUCKING VIRTUAL MEETINGS ALREADY!

by Anonymousreply 60August 14, 2021 7:16 AM

I agree. I have been inundated with significantly more virtual meetings since lock-down began than all the in person meetings beforehand.

by Anonymousreply 61August 14, 2021 4:32 PM

Thankfully there was no such thing as Zoom calls when my kids were toddlers.

by Anonymousreply 62August 14, 2021 5:14 PM

A toddler would be a perfect patsy to pin a murder on.

by Anonymousreply 63August 15, 2021 2:38 PM

[quote] Some day this child will learn he/she killed their own mother.

R5 really? I would have thought the child would be put up for adoption or placed with another family under a new identity, like they do with other child killers.

by Anonymousreply 64August 15, 2021 5:12 PM

Will it be sentenced to death?

by Anonymousreply 65August 15, 2021 11:34 PM

What's the situation with criminal charges? Do toddlers actually face them?

by Anonymousreply 66August 16, 2021 12:07 AM

[quote]What's the situation with criminal charges? Do toddlers actually face them?

Of course not , but the father will be charged for leaving a loaded firearm unsecured and probably manslaughter.

by Anonymousreply 67August 16, 2021 9:43 AM

It was WOMANslaughter.

That’s LITERAL VIOLENCE!

by Anonymousreply 68August 16, 2021 12:38 PM

If the mother had been able to exercise her freedoms by going into the office without a mask, this never would have happened.

by Anonymousreply 69August 16, 2021 2:01 PM

Holy crap! I just watched the finale. I correctly guessed who would die but that's a shitty way to go.

[quote] The mother probably had was unvaccinated

Yes Shamaya probably was.

by Anonymousreply 74October 13, 2021 10:13 PM

I'm the youngest of four. When I was 2 or 3, I was playing in my parents' bedroom closet, and waayyyy to the far back I found a shotgun. Or rifle, don't recall which. I ran and told my two sisters about it. About two seconds after that I saw my parents huddling in the kitchen, with Mama uncharacteristically animated. Dad told us kids to go play outside. We did.

We never saw that gun again.

by Anonymousreply 75October 13, 2021 10:16 PM

So if the father gets jail time which won't be much he'll be raising the child? That kid needs to be adopted and fast.

by Anonymousreply 76October 13, 2021 10:24 PM

[quote] My father had a handgun in his night stand drawer until the day he died. We grew up knowing it was in there, and we also knew if we touched it our ass would be grass

My Dad was the same way R9. He had rifles for hunting in the garage, and a handgun which he kept in a lockbox under the bed (which I doubt was actually locked but I don’t know).

Had he seen me touch any of them I would have been in for a severe beating (which I know is out of style but sometimes … it works). Once I was a teenager, I’m sure he would have taken me out for lessons, but I just wasn’t interested (my older brother was and he took him).

by Anonymousreply 77October 13, 2021 10:27 PM

In private Trump hates guns. He was even appalled that his sons went hunting calling them idiots. Of course he'd never let his base know it.

by Anonymousreply 78October 13, 2021 10:28 PM

Toe you I wah hod caw
