A surreal state of affairs.
Israel now in the unusual maybe unique position of surrogacy now being legal for gay couples but gay marriage is still illegal

This won't last much longer DeFacto
Bennett and Lapid were able to get right and left and center parties to come together because, in addition to wanting to get rid of Netanyahu, they wanted to get rid of the influence the Ultra-Orthodox have.
One key step they want to take up front is to take marriage laws out of the hands of the Orthodox
That would not only legalize gay marriage but also marriage between a man who had been converted by a Conservative rabbi in the US and a Jewish woman, among other things.
This is one instance where they are not singling us out.
And gay marriages performed outside of Israel are recognized by the state.
Nice try though.

r3 I am not Defacto and an exploration of the block facility would establish that.
It certainly is progressive and welcome that Israel recognises same sex marriages from outside it.I just found the juxtaposition of legal surrogacy but illegal gay marriage quirky, noteworthy and surreal.
In many other countries it is surrogacy for gay couples that is proving more controversial than gay marriage. Not here in the UK though I dont think. The UK government seems safely on track to reform surrogacy laws and update them even further . There will not be sufficient opposition to block it.

Gay marriage is not illegal in Israel. Gay marriages performed abroad are recognized there. Gay weddings are not possible. Israel does not offer civil weddings, only religious weddings. This has been a political issue for some time. So gay couples and interfaith couples go abroad, e.g. to Cyprus, to get married.
