Is Kate Bush getting a little overrated?

I like some of her songs and she’s a good artist, but some are making her out to be this complete genius and revolutionary, which I am not sure if that is the case.

by Anonymousreply 37June 2, 2022 4:01 AM

OP are you posting from 1983 ?

by Anonymousreply 1July 23, 2021 2:59 PM

Is there a Kate Bush revival among babydykes?

by Anonymousreply 2July 23, 2021 3:03 PM

OP = Pat Benatar

by Anonymousreply 3July 23, 2021 3:17 PM

UM WHY DOES THIS WOMAN MATTER? I DON'T UNDERSTAYUND!

These "let's doubt and dismiss a woman!" threads are garbage.

by Anonymousreply 4July 23, 2021 3:29 PM

OP = Madonna, posting from 1985

by Anonymousreply 5April 30, 2022 8:11 PM

Yes she is. And people always have to trash Tori Amos when mentioning her- when they could not be less alike as performers.

I dig them both very much, but Kate is more overrated.

Incredibly special and talented woman, regardless.

by Anonymousreply 6April 30, 2022 8:13 PM

She’s no Zendaya

by Anonymousreply 7April 30, 2022 8:17 PM

You take that back, OP or I’m gonna put on my best flowy skirt and go to a public park and perform a modern dance that I’ll create about how much I hate you!

by Anonymousreply 8April 30, 2022 8:28 PM

No.

by Anonymousreply 9April 30, 2022 8:59 PM

Yes, completely overrated. She had two good songs and the rest are forgettable garbage.

by Anonymousreply 10April 30, 2022 9:06 PM

Them's fightin' words around here, OP

by Anonymousreply 11April 30, 2022 9:43 PM

Pull out the pin, OP

[quote] she’s a good artist, but some are making her out

Ignore 'the some'.

by Anonymousreply 13April 30, 2022 10:25 PM

Nah, she's fine. Her "rating" is about justified. Try to find a life, OP.

by Anonymousreply 14April 30, 2022 10:26 PM

R5 Why the fuck would you bump this nearly year-old thread, moron?

by Anonymousreply 15April 30, 2022 10:27 PM

Hiss! Hissss hisss!

by Anonymousreply 16April 30, 2022 10:28 PM

Why did you open it just to complain, r15?

by Anonymousreply 17April 30, 2022 11:11 PM

R17 You're not very bright, dear

by Anonymousreply 18April 30, 2022 11:15 PM

She was a unique artist of her time (late 70s - 80s).

OP should share who he thinks isn't overrated from that particular era.

by Anonymousreply 19April 30, 2022 11:17 PM

She’s not quite as overrated as Tori Amos.

by Anonymousreply 20April 30, 2022 11:19 PM

She's no Laurie Anderson.

by Anonymousreply 21May 1, 2022 1:01 PM

Genius.

The term “overrated” is overrated. The Kardashians are overrated. Everyone and everything else is just rated or, in rare cases, underrated.

by Anonymousreply 23May 1, 2022 11:13 PM

I still dream of Orgonon

by Anonymousreply 24May 1, 2022 11:24 PM

Her music was innovative, but her real talent has always been knowing when to leave the stage.

by Anonymousreply 25May 2, 2022 12:26 AM

She's brilliant

by Anonymousreply 26May 2, 2022 3:12 AM

"Wow, wow, wow, wow...unbelievable!"

She is extremely eccentric British/English in nature, and as the link at r28 points out, way too literary for mainstream American rock music tastes. There was talk that she'd finally get inducted into the RnR HOF this year, although I'd personally love to see it (I'm a fan) I was like, nah not gonna happen.

R28 points to the success of the Smiths, Blue and Oasis over here as a point that "British" acts can make it in the American mainstream, but those are all rock/hard rock acts. They don't exhibit the extreme eccentricity that Bush does. Delightful eccentricity, but all the same.

by Anonymousreply 29May 6, 2022 7:23 PM

I absolutely love her, and flew to London to see her in concert back in September of 2014, when she randomly made an appearance after 35 years away from the stage.

by Anonymousreply 30May 6, 2022 7:43 PM

.... The Dreaming circa '83 was the one for me. As mentioned above... she never overstayed her welcome... always left her fans wanting more.

by Anonymousreply 31May 6, 2022 7:45 PM

Absolutely love love love love Kate Bush. And frankly dig Tori Amos more.

Two utterly different beasts other than piano playing.

Kate really isn't overrated in the world. But I find her overrated here on DL.

by Anonymousreply 32May 7, 2022 9:20 PM

Kate Bush running up that chart thanks to Stranger Things

by Anonymousreply 33June 2, 2022 3:46 AM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 34June 2, 2022 3:47 AM

oops did that wrong

I don’t care how you judge me either way!

by Anonymousreply 36June 2, 2022 3:58 AM

Good grief, they’ve only been mentioning her for the past few days.

Give her her day in the sun this time around. 🙄
