Marla Gibbs has a Medical Scare at her Hollywood Walk of Fame Presentation ☹️

From CNN:

After decades in the business Marla Gibbs knows that the show must go on and it did on Tuesday after the actress became overcome at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

Gibbs, 90, was at the podium giving a speech during the unveiling of her star on the Walk of Fame when she suddenly paused and appeared to be about to faint.

A man wearing a mask who had been in her group of guests rushed forward to keep “The Jeffersons” star from falling.

Her daughter Angela Gibbs took to the microphone to say her mother needed a moment “to cool down.” The temperature soared past 90 Tuesday in Los Angeles.

The star eventually returned to the stage and told CNN affiliate ABC 7 afterward that she was overcome by the heat and excitement of the day.

“I just got overwhelmed for a minute,” Gibbs said. “I haven’t been excited until this moment!”

Famed TV producer and creator Norman Lear, who helped make Gibbs famous, was on hand to witness the ceremony.

Gibbs is best known for playing sassy housekeeper Florence Johnson on the beloved sitcom “The Jeffersons,” which ran from 1975 to 1985, and as as Mary Jenkins on “227,” which aired from 1985 to 1990.

Oh Marla Gibbs we love you get up

by Anonymousreply 1July 22, 2021 12:17 AM

Norman Lear was there and he's 99!! Good for him, too!

by Anonymousreply 2July 22, 2021 12:25 AM

Love you, Marla !

by Anonymousreply 3July 22, 2021 12:32 AM

Isn’t she a racist? Hadn’t she said done hateful thinks about white people in the past?

by Anonymousreply 4July 22, 2021 12:37 AM

They do these at different times of the year. The shouldn't have expected a fucking NINETY YEAR-OLD to be out in that heat. They could've easily scheduled the event for October.

And for the record: was Jackée there?

by Anonymousreply 5July 22, 2021 12:41 AM

I think I was the only one who didn't get Florence's character on The Jeffersons. She was the maid, not a member of the family. She didn't do her job and she treated George like garbage. I would have fired her ass so fast she wouldn't know what hit her. I never understood why he put up with that. Sass is one thing, but Florence was also lazy as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 6July 22, 2021 12:41 AM

90? Amazing.

by Anonymousreply 7July 22, 2021 12:51 AM

Maaaaary!!

by Anonymousreply 8July 22, 2021 12:53 AM

Ain't no place like home CHILE!

by Anonymousreply 9July 22, 2021 1:13 AM

She recently played Arsenio Hall’s Mom on Marital Law, so she clearly still retains her acting chops stamina.

by Anonymousreply 10July 22, 2021 1:20 AM

I mean, she managed to put in a surprise appearance as Florence in one of those live classic sitcoms that Jimmy Kimmel was doing with Norman Lear. Woman has some stamina.

by Anonymousreply 11July 22, 2021 1:22 AM

She's the only main cast member from the Jeffersons that's still living.

I used to live three blocks away from the apartment building that was used for exterior shots as the Jeffersons' apartment building and the theme song would play in my head every time I walked by it.

by Anonymousreply 12July 22, 2021 1:32 AM

Damon Evans and Berlinda Tolbert are still around.

I would consider them main cast members given that they were in the opening credits for a couple of years.

by Anonymousreply 13July 22, 2021 1:34 AM

Marla thought she saw Jackee in the crowd and thought she'd be upstaged.

by Anonymousreply 14July 22, 2021 1:36 AM

Damon Evans is the gay Lionel

by Anonymousreply 15July 22, 2021 1:37 AM

[quot]I used to live three blocks away from the apartment building that was used for exterior shots as the Jeffersons

What's the addy? Fuck that just look it up on Google maps for my lazy ass and post the link

by Anonymousreply 16July 22, 2021 1:37 AM

The building is called the Park Lane. It's on 85 st. between Lexington and Third Avenue.

Wow by today’s standards, that building is pretty ugly…definitely not an architectural classic.

by Anonymousreply 18July 22, 2021 1:57 AM

r17

Thank you

by Anonymousreply 19July 22, 2021 2:01 AM

Here is a Google map link of the place

It's a "luxury" building, but I always thought it looked like a public housing project. Esp. up close.

by Anonymousreply 21July 22, 2021 2:09 AM

Marla actually looks pretty good for 90 years old. I hope she will be okay.

by Anonymousreply 22July 22, 2021 3:02 AM

Was Regina King there?

by Anonymousreply 23July 22, 2021 4:34 AM

No, but Kia Joy Goodwin sent an Edible Arrangement.

by Anonymousreply 24July 22, 2021 4:37 AM

[quote]Was Regina King there?

She was at Cannes last week.

She did seem to get a message to Marla though since she directly thanked her along with everyone else that was there on her instagram.

Marla never seems to stop working. I remember her playing a lesbian whose partner was murdered on Scandal. She should have had a star a long time ago.

by Anonymousreply 25July 22, 2021 4:43 AM

Now this is how to orchestrate a publicity stunt. Madonna would be proud.

by Anonymousreply 26July 22, 2021 4:46 AM

R26 Can we get together… *pause* I really, I really want to be with you *seizure*

by Anonymousreply 27July 22, 2021 4:52 AM

A legend and great lady

by Anonymousreply 28July 22, 2021 5:04 AM

Jackee Harry posted a funny tweet about Marla calling her asking about WAP.

God bless Marla! 227 is still one of my favorite shows. I thought the dad was hot.

by Anonymousreply 30July 22, 2021 5:12 AM

I loved 227. Great show with a great cast.

by Anonymousreply 31July 22, 2021 5:19 AM

She is over 90. Give her a break!

by Anonymousreply 32July 22, 2021 5:21 AM

Depressing seeing her so old

by Anonymousreply 33July 22, 2021 5:29 AM

She should’ve had one years ago!!!

by Anonymousreply 34July 22, 2021 5:44 AM

Congrats, Marla! Well deserved.

by Anonymousreply 35July 22, 2021 5:51 AM

R33, or maybe it's awesome that she has stuck around so long and she's still going.

by Anonymousreply 36July 22, 2021 7:08 PM

I love Marla Gibbs and I will fight anyone who says a bad word about her!

by Anonymousreply 37July 22, 2021 7:15 PM

Marla and Jackee are going to work together on days of our lives next month. She works quite regularly.

Marla’s acting career didn’t take off until she was in her 40’s, I’m not sure someone can do that in today’s Hollywood.

Marla and Regina king reunited on southland with an inside joke. I love them both.

Was Cuntess Vaughn in attendance?

Also, it turns out Regina King was the one who helped organize all of this for her and worked with her family and the Chamber of Commerce.

by Anonymousreply 42July 22, 2021 10:58 PM

Love her!

by Anonymousreply 43July 22, 2021 11:02 PM

There's a reason Regina King wins so many awards (aside from deserving them). She is REALLY well-liked in the industry, and for good reason.

by Anonymousreply 44July 22, 2021 11:11 PM

Maybe she wif chile..

by Anonymousreply 45July 22, 2021 11:13 PM

Love Regina!

by Anonymousreply 46July 22, 2021 11:14 PM

Have they never heard of industrial outdoor air conditioners that can be stationed around any outside group to blow enough cold air to keep everyone nice and cool?

by Anonymousreply 47July 22, 2021 11:19 PM

[quote] I never understood why he put up with that.

If I'm not mistaken it was because it was written into the script, because it was a comedy show, not a documentary.

Have you been checked for COVID dementia?

by Anonymousreply 48July 22, 2021 11:22 PM

I was a kid, you dumb fuck.

by Anonymousreply 49July 22, 2021 11:24 PM

[quote] I used to live three blocks away from the apartment building that was used for exterior shots

In the late 80s I lived on E. 87th (next door to the Charles Peter Nagle Funeral Home) very near that building. I too would sing the theme song in my head every morning walking to the subway.

by Anonymousreply 50July 22, 2021 11:25 PM

Portable fans, cold compresses can help to have at hand when it's boiling hot.

Ms. Gibbs is a trooper.Very scary moment.

by Anonymousreply 51July 22, 2021 11:43 PM

Marla's single just dropped!

"She's the only main cast member from the Jeffersons that's still living."

What happened to Isabel Sanford?!?

by Anonymousreply 53July 25, 2021 8:10 PM

Isabel died in 2004 from cardiac arrest and heart disease. She’d have been 104 this year.

by Anonymousreply 54July 25, 2021 8:17 PM

Isabel was so funny when she won her Emmy (the only black woman to ever win Lead Actress in a Comedy Series).

What's even more shocking is that she was twenty years older than Sherman Hemsley.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 55July 25, 2021 8:35 PM

Isabel's Emmy was a joke. She was a lousy actress. They only gave it to her for longevity. She won the Pat Harrington/John Ritter award.

by Anonymousreply 56July 25, 2021 8:38 PM

You know Marla was wearing a synthetic wig and those things are hot!!! Why no fans or misters? Who plans an event in almost triple-digit temperatures with elderly people without adequate shade and hydration?

by Anonymousreply 57July 25, 2021 8:53 PM

Nobody wants to admit they had a stroke. Then you're not 'bankable' talent. Best to say you had The Vapors or were dehydrated or something.
