I have this feeling that the days when britannia waived the rules are over.

Brexit was always undoable to begin with. And now Britain is trying to wriggle out.

When is there going to be another referendum on leaving the UK? Have the demographics tipped in favor of the Irish Republic yet?

by Anonymousreply 1July 21, 2021 3:50 PM

If the U.K. proceeds, they can kiss a trade agreement with the US goodbye. Because they’d be kissing the Good Friday agreement goodbye. Biden is committed to it as is a majority in the Senate.

What happened to the idea that a nation abides by the agreements it signs?

by Anonymousreply 2July 21, 2021 3:54 PM

Bye Scotland too. This will only confirm the worst that the Scots have thought of England.

by Anonymousreply 3July 21, 2021 4:03 PM

The PM has to authorize referenda for independence. He's not doing that.

by Anonymousreply 4July 21, 2021 4:08 PM

It'll happen one way or the other, referendum or not. Mark my words.

The UK has the right and the responsibility to maintain its sovereignty and the integrity of its internal common market. The EU must know that’s inevitable.

by Anonymousreply 6July 21, 2021 4:25 PM

Integrity. You made a funny.

by Anonymousreply 7July 21, 2021 4:29 PM

Honestly, I'm shocked they joined the EU in the first place. England always seems to look down it's collective nose at everyone else.

by Anonymousreply 8July 21, 2021 4:41 PM

The Brits haven’t moved on from the days of the empire.

by Anonymousreply 9July 21, 2021 4:43 PM

I was shocked too. And surprised they weren't kicked out earlier.

by Anonymousreply 10July 21, 2021 4:43 PM

Brexiteers = Trumpers. Zero brain cells.

The UK government already knows that there will no agreement with the U.S. during the Biden (“I’m Irish!”) administration, no matter what, so there’s nothing to risk losing. The UK can focus on fixing the protocol without that distraction.

R1 you’re forgetting Ireland doesn’t want them lol

by Anonymousreply 13July 21, 2021 7:02 PM

R3, in fairness, the Scots always think the worst of EVERYBODY.

by Anonymousreply 14July 21, 2021 9:10 PM

R6? As does the EU.
