Anyone watch Bordertown on Netflix?

Finnish crime show. I think it's great - superior to any American network crime shows.

Any other DLers watch? Pray tell?

[quote] superior to any American network crime shows.

Faint praise.

Just wrapped the third series. Loved it. Somehow all those Fins got into my mind... I cared about almost all of them. Sutble, but a strong piece of work.

And the murders were so Nordic and dark and twisted.

If you like it, download 'The Head'. Sounds like porn but is actually gruesome Nordic crime.

^^^ Whoops, it's Spanish made but a lot of the cast are Nordic.

Will check that out - thank you.

Yes R2 - same. I thought the two girls were especially strong - loved Katia.

The actor playing Kari is amazing.

R4 - I LOVE the head. Thanks so much for the rec.

Any other ones you like??

From the episode titles, it appears that it's neither a single season arc crime nor murder of the week.

It looks like crimes are multi-episodes 2-4 in most cases.

Is that true? if so, that would definitely be something that should be imported to US crime shows. Right now, they tend to suffer from season long crimes, but don't have a good second season. A crime that takes 2-4 episodes to solve would be a lot more in-depth and could possibly have the draw of season long arcs without the let down when there is nothing after.

yes R7 - it's structured like that. They spend 2-3 episodes on each case. You also get very attached to the characters.

I think the lead is amazing, but the supporting case is also very strong.

Is The Head on Netflix?

by Anonymousreply 9July 26, 2021 11:57 PM

What's it about, OP (or anyone)?

by Anonymousreply 10July 26, 2021 11:59 PM

The head is on hbo max

Bordertown is about a genius level detective in Helsinki who relocates with his wife and teenage daughter to a smaller city on the border of finland and Russia (hence the title) after his wife recovers from brain cancer and they think it will be less stressful. Europol is setting up a serious crime unit for the police force there and he works in it. Each episode tackles a new case he’s working on. You get attached to him and the wife and teenage daughter - and they bring in a few other cops that you get attached to as well. Also it’s just beautifully shot and the storylines are darker than what American TV would cover.

Nordic cop drama series. 3 series. Set in Finland. Well done.

One thing I love about European cop shows is not infrequently the lead or the second lead is a woman. And it doesn't matter. She's just a female character. As smart and tough as any man.
