Manifest series dead. NBC cancels and Netflix rejects
When Netflix decided it will not pick up the recently cancelled NBC drama Manifest, star Josh Dallas sent out a message to the “Manifesters,” the show’s passionate fan base.
“Well, my #manifesters, I’m sorry to say that it’s the end of the line for now. We are so proud to have brought this story over 3 season,” Dallas, who starred as Ben Stone, tweeted on Monday. “We so wished we could’ve finished this journey with you. But it wasn’t in the cards.”
Heading into the upfronts, Manifest was one of four shows on the bubble. Nearly a month after its May presentation, NBC opted not to renew the sci-fi drama earlier this month. Debris and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist have both been cancelled by the network, with Good Girls‘ and Ellen’s Game of Games‘ fate still yet to be decided.

Classic example of a show that started with a great idea but spent every episode meandering down annoying dead end side paths.
Also: “Debris” has been canceled after one season at NBC

Manifest got ridiculous by going full on Christian lore with their mystery (faith based resurrection, Noah's arc coining the ridiculous phrase lifeboat, being tested to do good and follow "their calling").
What hurts is Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. I loved that show.
Has NBC announced what they will air in those, now empty, time slots?

Don't care for Ellen's Game of Games, is that other show of hers, that interior designer competition show (Netflix?) any good?

There are third and fourth tier streaming services that might be interested. The Mad About You reboot showed up on "Spectrum Originals" (ouch - that had to hurt some egos).

Netflix made sense, because they just started streaming the first two seasons of Manifest. I doubt any other streaming platform is interested to deal with Netflix's streaming rights for the foreseeable future.

I have to be skeptical about that story. If the creepy Hispanic gangster's salary was the problem it would be easy to kill him off-stage and carry on. He always made my skin crawl.
If they did it to Rosanne they could do it to Rio.

I watched it when it first came on and found it boring with terrible acting and I could not finish the episode and surprised it's no. 1 on Netflix.

R8, I'm sure Hendricks is the problem. A good friend of mine dated her a few years before Mad Men. She was a total social climbing, difficult as fuck cunt. At that point, I think she'd been on a bad sitcom or something and she acted like she was Meryl.

I don't think Hendricks is responsible for NBC dumping pretty much all of their scripted shows within a month. Something this drastic either comes from a change of leadership or the execs decided to go in a different direction, like Reality TV (cheaper to produce).

I dont watch this but have seen Manifest topping the Netflix most watched recently. Why wouldnt they pick up the show if its so popular that its their #1 streamed show??

I am surprised that people watch it on Netflix knowing that the show got canceled before telling the full story.

I watched all of the Manifest episodes, but I agree with an above poster that the series took a strange turn into Crazy Town when Christianity became so prominent in the storyline.
I think the reason I continued watching was because I found the three guys attractive- and had never seen them in anything before and probably wouldn't see them in anything again.
The problem with American network shows is the fact that there are too many episodes per season and there's no definitive ending in sight, resulting in a meandering mess. Lessons should have been learned from what happened with ABC's Lost, but no that's not the case.
The best network dramas tend to be the ones that get canceled after the first season. (My So-Called Life, Invasion, The Crossing and Freaks and Geeks come to mind.)

Huh. I've never seen this show either even though it featured Matt Long (yum!). It really seems the cast, crew, and the fans are very passionate about it. Time was when streaming services were a saving grace for shows like this, even if it were just long enough to finish the story. Now it's reboots of old decrepit shows or shit which never should have seen the light of day in the first place. Top show on Netflix, they're making money off it, they say no, but let "Lucifer" and "Stranger Things" and other shit drag on for-fucking-ever. Doesn't make sense. I feel for the "Manifesters".

Last month, when I paused my DirecTV DVR, an ad would pop up for "Pride Favorites," including that Zoey nonsense.
What was "Pride" about that show?

R16, you do realize 'Lucifer' is an example of a streaming service being the "saving grace" for a cancelled network show? 'Lucifer' was a Fox series.

Manifest was an interesting concept but they went in the worst possible direction with it. Good Girls was good in the beginning but then they recycle the same exact plots over and over and over.

Did DL-ers pretend that THE EVENT was the best series on television when NBC cancelled it after one season?
When ABC cancelled ZERO HOUR?
When ABC cancelled that Dave Annabelle/Vanessa Williams show?

I'm pissed Good Girls is cancelled. I love that show. The all grown up Brecklin Meyer is a sexy fucker and the MLM storyline was a great addition. NBC also moved it to Thursday night for the rest of the episodes. I've never watched the first season so I don't even know how they got they got into the whole counterfeit thing.
I still hope it will be saved between NBC and Netflix.

I lost interest long ago. It really started to suck.
A couple of months ago I rewatched The 4400. That was better than I remembered, at least until the last couple of seasons. What happens with almost all shows that they just start to suck in the last few seasons?
I just can't watch my DVRs of Grey's Anatomy and SVU. I've watched both from day one and I can't bring myself to delete without watching but I can't bring myself to watch either. I've actually lost track of the characters on GA. I remember Meredith the ex Chief and Miranda and that's about it.

Major network sci-fi is almost always awful.
There's usually a basic premise that is intriguing enough to carry a show for the first few episodes, but as it continues, the poor execution of said premise becomes more and more apparent, and the plot lines become more and more ridiculous as they desperately try to think up ways to keep the show on the air.
Plus, all major network dramas have a certain "feel" to them that just doesn't work well with the sci-fi genre for some reason.
I've been burned too many times ("The Event", "Revolution", "Extant", "Persons Unknown", "Under the Dome", etc.) to go down that road again.

"FlashForward" (on ABC, 2009-2010) was a good show. It's free on the ABC app.

Maybe giving them one more 20 episode season will force them to tighten up the storytelling so they and get to the intended ending with less filler. I watched the first season, but thought it meandered too much. Lost, regardless of whether or not you liked the ending, improved when they decided seasons four through six would be 16 episodes each, and season 6 would be the end. It led them to focus on the story, and eliminate the filler episodes that got them to 22 episodes per season.
I am happy for the people that watched the show that it got picked up. Maybe I'll give it another shot when it finishes up.

One of the guys from LOST learned his lesson, The Leftovers was three succinct seasons, no fat. Fantastic acting, emotional storylines as with LOST, the characters were the focus but it also explained most of the strange happenings. (Well, not the major event but that was acknowledged right at the beginning that “why/how” will never be explained; the show dealt with the fallout. )

There are a few major exceptions: The Expanse and The Magicians on SyFy. The Expanse now on Amazon Prime and The Magicians has ended but now on Netflix.
