Who is today's George Carlin?

Not necessarily atheist, but really tells it like it is. I can't really think of anybody.

Someone needs to carry the torch.

by Anonymousreply 34June 24, 2021 7:08 PM

I think the general consensus is that it's Dave Chappelle.

by Anonymousreply 1June 24, 2021 3:09 AM

Joy Behar.

by Anonymousreply 2June 24, 2021 3:18 AM

Wanda Sykes

by Anonymousreply 4June 24, 2021 3:20 AM

Love Wanda Sykes!

by Anonymousreply 5June 24, 2021 3:21 AM

More importantly, who is today's Erma Bombeck?

"HOUSEWORK! Who needs it?"

by Anonymousreply 6June 24, 2021 3:22 AM

Louis Black

by Anonymousreply 7June 24, 2021 3:23 AM

Nobody.

by Anonymousreply 8June 24, 2021 4:25 AM

Chris Rock

by Anonymousreply 9June 24, 2021 4:34 AM

Yeah George Carlin was the master of the rant be it the Catholic church, government etc.

by Anonymousreply 10June 24, 2021 4:34 AM

George would have a field day with all the language changes we've seen in the last decade.

by Anonymousreply 11June 24, 2021 4:37 AM

George never hit low so comparing Dave Chapelle, a renowned homophobe to George Carlin, is actually quite insulting to Carlin.

by Anonymousreply 12June 24, 2021 4:38 AM

Chapelle can’t compare to a pimple of Carlin’s butt.

by Anonymousreply 13June 24, 2021 4:40 AM

I agree, Nobody. Dave Chapelle, is too cozy to celebrities.

by Anonymousreply 14June 24, 2021 4:42 AM

Bill Maher but he’s obviously not as good as Carlin

by Anonymousreply 15June 24, 2021 4:52 AM

Not Bill Maher, not even a little.

by Anonymousreply 16June 24, 2021 4:53 AM

Louis C.K. was before he got cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 17June 24, 2021 7:36 AM

The best comedian is thought to be Dave Chappelle. But he's more like the heir apparent to Richard Pryor.

Chappelle isn't a countercultural voice for white people. In fact, Chappelle is Muslim, homophobic, transphobic, etc., which is all cringey.

George Carlin would never accept any religious bullshit, especially Islam.

by Anonymousreply 18June 24, 2021 7:38 AM

Chappelle also makes excuses for any celebrity friend clearly guilty of rape and abuse — and even celebrities who aren't friends if they're black.

Note his unauthoritative defenses for Louis C.K. and R. Kelly.

by Anonymousreply 19June 24, 2021 7:41 AM

There are a lot of guys who would say Joe Rogan, seriously.

by Anonymousreply 20June 24, 2021 7:46 AM

Howard Stern is the closest to Carlin these days — same generation; largely the same outlook.

But he's getting LOOOONNG in the tooth.

by Anonymousreply 21June 24, 2021 7:49 AM

The young generation likes Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart.

by Anonymousreply 22June 24, 2021 7:50 AM

Dave Chappelle.

by Anonymousreply 23June 24, 2021 7:51 AM

Lady Carrot Top

Amanda Seales. She tells it like it is with no bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 25June 24, 2021 7:52 AM

But Dave Chappelle doesn't tell it like it is. He tells it like blacks and friends are innocent when they're provably guilty and he thinks Mohammed cleft the moon in half.

Chappelle is keepin' it real CONVENIENT.

by Anonymousreply 26June 24, 2021 7:54 AM

R19 There is a world of difference between Louis C.K. , who I am still unsure about what he did wrong, and R Kelly who held sex slaves.

by Anonymousreply 27June 24, 2021 8:14 AM

Sebastian Maniscalco

by Anonymousreply 28June 24, 2021 2:42 PM

US: probably Colbert and Lewis Black. UK: Dylan Moran. That's pretty much it, sadly....

by Anonymousreply 29June 24, 2021 3:23 PM

Wanda Sykes came to mind immediately. She expresses WTF-ness as expertly as Carlin did.

by Anonymousreply 30June 24, 2021 3:40 PM

Ricky Gervais

by Anonymousreply 31June 24, 2021 5:25 PM

Nick Mullen

by Anonymousreply 32June 24, 2021 5:26 PM

I would say Stewart Lee, but although he has keen insight into the pathologies of the U.S. his viewpoint is specifically British and his work isn't really distributed here.
