Police Now Afraid to Take a Proactive Role Against Crime in America

[QUOTE]”City lawmakers have decriminalized quality of life offenses and effectively ended prosecution of low level crimes,” he said. “We are doing the job as our elected leaders have asked. They will have to answer for the results.”

Boo hoo, pigs.

by Anonymousreply 1June 23, 2021 5:26 PM

"Boo hoo pigs" until R1 needs a cop.

by Anonymousreply 2June 23, 2021 5:27 PM

Yes, THAT's the reason. Not the fact that there's a zillion more guns in everyone's hands due to the NRA and gun rights fanatics misinterpreting the Constitution and threatening everyone with violence.

The rise in gun violence follows the rise in guns and gun availability.

by Anonymousreply 3June 23, 2021 5:44 PM

All the outrage is just so the perps can get a chance to escape ("I can't breathe!"). BLM must stand for "Broke Loose, Man!".

by Anonymousreply 4June 23, 2021 5:48 PM

[quote]The rise in gun violence follows the rise in guns and gun availability.

Not true.

Although gun violence is up, it's still far lower now than it was in the late 1980s, early '90s.

by Anonymousreply 5June 23, 2021 5:52 PM

r5 gun violence doesn't just mean "homicides" which seems to be what you are referring to, so yes, it's increased, and there's millions more guns on the streets now than there were at any other time in human history.

by Anonymousreply 6June 23, 2021 5:54 PM

Who can blame them?

by Anonymousreply 7June 23, 2021 5:55 PM

Crazy people were buying guns the way I was buying toilet paper at the start of the pandemic, and then there was another wave after Biden’s win, because we all know that Democrats want to “take them guns”.

But let’s not talk about guns. Let’s talk about trans people and other unrelated issues.

by Anonymousreply 8June 23, 2021 5:57 PM

R6 No, you are wrong.

Gun violence is DOWN since the 1990s.

See the various charts at the link:

by Anonymousreply 9June 23, 2021 7:43 PM

Dude that specifically says GUN HOMICIDE, not gun violence.

by Anonymousreply 10June 23, 2021 7:45 PM

R10 Dude...click on the link there are charts for gun violence. Dude.

by Anonymousreply 11June 23, 2021 7:48 PM

R1 is like comic book villain. Cackling and laughing at this.

by Anonymousreply 12June 23, 2021 7:54 PM

R9 yes gun homicides are down.. from the height of the friggin crack epidemic which left scores dead in every inner city in America. Crime is still on the rise, however, in ways that people can feel beyond some stupid chart.

by Anonymousreply 13June 23, 2021 8:03 PM

R13 As I wrote: "Although gun violence is up, it's still far lower now than it was in the late 1980s, early '90s." Got now dude?

by Anonymousreply 14June 23, 2021 8:06 PM

Why must it be compared to the fucking Griselda Blanco cocaine wars, R14? How about comparing it to something more recent and reasonable, like last decade?

by Anonymousreply 15June 23, 2021 8:11 PM

I am a Canadian and the USA has become so toxic that it is even unhealthy to read news about it. I don't blame the police for not wanting to get involved against crime - the Far Left Radicals and other crazies (BLM) are making things impossible for them. Your big cities are becoming more and more unsafe and violent. No thanks!!!

by Anonymousreply 16June 23, 2021 8:34 PM

R3– criminals, gangbangers, low-life’s don’t buy guns from a store. They buy them from each other or they steal them. Gun control doesn’t do anything to stop those types from having guns. They don’t join the NRA.

by Anonymousreply 17June 23, 2021 8:45 PM

How about they repeal the 2nd Amendment and get rid of guns altogether?

by Anonymousreply 18June 23, 2021 8:58 PM

Cuz getting rid of guns altogether will take the illegal firearms off the street, the same guns that kill a huge number of homicide victims. That's like saying that making drugs illegal will clear up the drug problem or that alcoholism will be cured when alcohol is made illegal. Really, people can be this tone deaf.

by Anonymousreply 19June 23, 2021 9:07 PM

Fuck the cops.

by Anonymousreply 20June 23, 2021 9:11 PM

I think crime is rising because the police are engaging in an unannounced work slowdown to punish everyone for criticizing them. Win, win, win for them. Less work, getting even, and creating pressure to unleash the kraken.

by Anonymousreply 21June 23, 2021 9:30 PM

Who’s going to ask them to unleash the kraken, R21? You think these cities are suddenly going to come under Republican rule?

by Anonymousreply 22June 23, 2021 9:37 PM

Dear Cops:

If you don't like your fucking job, quit and get another one.

But then with the job skills most cops possess, they'd end up working at Wawa.

Nobody wants to be around somebody who hates their job and is just marking time until retirement, especially when you're in the position of throwing somebody, anybody in jail because you're too god damned lazy to look for the real criminals.

by Anonymousreply 23June 23, 2021 9:44 PM

While I support our good cops, I don't feel sorry for them anymore. They used this "blue wall" for decades to cover corruption for the bad cops. If they really want to be respected and dignified again, they need to drop this bs and start weeding out the bad cops who just want to terrorize people.

by Anonymousreply 24June 23, 2021 10:16 PM

If they won’t go their jobs, then fire them.

by Anonymousreply 25June 23, 2021 10:19 PM

If crime gets bad enough, the kraken will be unleashed.

by Anonymousreply 26June 23, 2021 10:24 PM

R3 Then why does Chicago have such high gun violence?

by Anonymousreply 27June 23, 2021 10:29 PM

We need Robocops!

by Anonymousreply 28June 23, 2021 10:33 PM

Cops basically don’t want to be bothered, so this is working out very well for them.

by Anonymousreply 29June 23, 2021 10:41 PM

[Quote] Then why does Chicago have such high gun violence?

The surrounding states have lax guns laws and they are easily bought there and smuggled into Illinois.

It’s the same with the East Coast. Although there are strong restrictions in NY, guns are smuggled in from southern states

by Anonymousreply 30June 23, 2021 10:44 PM

[quote] Although gun violence is up, it's still far lower now than it was in the late 1980s, early '90s.

But that’s when NYC was fun and edgy. Scary as shit - for sure, but still so fun and exciting. You never knew from one day to the next if that was going to be your last. Oh, but for the good old days.

by Anonymousreply 31June 23, 2021 11:04 PM

[QUOTE] If they won’t go their jobs, then fire them.

R25, this is the way the powers that be WANT them to do their jobs.

by Anonymousreply 32June 24, 2021 6:27 AM

R23 r24 r25 is funny, because if any of you actually followed this issue rather than being a "tourist" you'd know that cops ARE leaving--in record numbers. Seattle pd has lost 20% of it's total police force, and thanks to police budget cuts, those jobs won't be replaced. If they ever decide to replace them, police training takes at least a year before an officer can be deployed. Minneapolis pd has the same problem. Now, dummies will say "those cops r just claiming PTSD from protests they r lying!" Who cares?! The net result is one less body on the force. So far, our cities are saying they're comfortable with these police department reductions by enabling them to continue. Idk where this ends though.

by Anonymousreply 33June 24, 2021 6:39 AM

Just another day in the disintegration of America.

by Anonymousreply 34June 24, 2021 6:47 AM

If having a conscience is too much work for these crybabies, find a different job.

Society needs to balance out the crimes committed by the police.

by Anonymousreply 35June 24, 2021 6:51 AM

[quote]Society needs to balance out the crimes committed by the police.

Increasing citizen vulnerability to crime is not "balance". What is needed is to make ALL sectors of society responsible for their behavior and actions.

by Anonymousreply 36June 24, 2021 6:54 AM

R31 This might be the most idiotic comment I've read on DL so far. How the fuck is life on the edge of mindless violence like that can be "good old days"?

by Anonymousreply 37June 24, 2021 7:06 AM

He was being sarcastic.

by Anonymousreply 38June 24, 2021 10:32 AM

Dear cops, don't cry. I'm sure you will find some black kid doing some serious crime, you are still allowed to persecute, on the streets when you're frustrated.

by Anonymousreply 39June 24, 2021 10:44 AM

" What is needed is to make ALL sectors of society responsible for their behavior and actions."

You'd better tell that to Donald Trump and the Republican Party STAT!!!! They've been very, very busy lately trying to forget the crimes of 01/06/21 and evade responsibility for them.

.

by Anonymousreply 42June 24, 2021 1:21 PM

If even CNN and NY Times are reporting on this, not good for Dems.

by Anonymousreply 43June 24, 2021 1:28 PM

And what are Republicans going to do differently, R43?

by Anonymousreply 44June 24, 2021 1:30 PM

What does that have to do with what R43 posted.

by Anonymousreply 45June 24, 2021 1:32 PM

Well, congrats R1. Enjoy yourself some crime I guess.

by Anonymousreply 46June 24, 2021 1:34 PM

R2 Delicious thought. Imagine the squealing for help!

by Anonymousreply 47June 24, 2021 1:37 PM

I laugh my ass off when people say get rid of guns. Chicago and LA have incredibly tough gun laws. Does any one think that gang bangers are going to hand over weapons because they’re illegal?

by Anonymousreply 48June 24, 2021 1:55 PM

I'm 70 years old and have never had the need to call the cops, R46/R47. Also, I've never felt the need to purchase or own a gun.

Why do some people feel so paranoid or so threatened?

by Anonymousreply 49June 24, 2021 1:56 PM

[quote]I'm 70 years old

You’re 70 years old and you make comments like “boo hoo, pigs”? Assuming you’re R1?

by Anonymousreply 50June 24, 2021 1:57 PM

You know what the say about the first three letters of assume.

You're a fucking idiot AND you're wrong, R50.

by Anonymousreply 51June 24, 2021 2:03 PM

By the number of (black) citizens they murder in cold blood each year, I'm gonna call bullshit!

Cop are always whining, you can't believe a word they say, they're all fucking liars.

by Anonymousreply 52June 24, 2021 2:03 PM

R49 So you live in a nice, quiet suburb. Good for you.

by Anonymousreply 53June 24, 2021 2:05 PM

[quote]they're all fucking liars.

Until your home is being broken into, your car is being stolen or you're being attacked in broad daylight. Then their "lies" are far less of an issue.

by Anonymousreply 54June 24, 2021 2:06 PM

No shit. That's why that cop recently had to make SUCH A PRODUCTION for the cameras wailing on the floor in grief after he shot the dumb bitch who was *firing at the cops*.

Because libbies like the morons in this thread would deify the ghetto, stupid trash that would use an illegal firearm to shoot at the police just because she's black. They'll also call for that cop's head unless the frauen take mercy and say "oh he was so PAINED by it."

by Anonymousreply 55June 24, 2021 2:09 PM

Cops are quitting, so is it not possible to hire new ones?

Of course, they hire new cops all the time, this is not a story or an issue!

by Anonymousreply 56June 24, 2021 2:11 PM

R17: Yes, gun control does stop those people from getting guns by making sure there are less of them in the first place. Do not come up in here with National Rifle Murderers Association talking points.

by Anonymousreply 57June 24, 2021 2:12 PM

R57 is a bit lax in the logic department. The fact that there are fewer guns does not "stop those people from getting" them. It simply makes it somewhat harder for "those people" to acquire them.

by Anonymousreply 58June 24, 2021 2:17 PM

[quote] Until your home is being broken into, your car is being stolen or you're being attacked in broad daylight. Then their "lies" are far less of an issue.

Is that all you have? "Just you wait until you need these bad, racist and corrupt cops!". That's not an argument. That's fear mongering.

by Anonymousreply 59June 24, 2021 2:24 PM

I see the racist cop fetishists have entered the chat.

by Anonymousreply 60June 24, 2021 2:37 PM

"That's fear mongering."

And that's been the Republican Party, the police unions, and the NRA's complete M.O. for the last 50 years.

by Anonymousreply 61June 24, 2021 2:40 PM

[quote]That's fear mongering.

R59 No, that's reality. Crime is rampant in major US cities.

[quote]Just you wait until you need these bad, racist and corrupt cops

THIS is fear mongering. And your own peculiar brand of bias.

by Anonymousreply 62June 24, 2021 2:46 PM

[R59] No, that's reality. Crime is rampant in major US cities.

And cops are part of that problem by murdering innocent black people.

by Anonymousreply 63June 24, 2021 2:50 PM

[QUOTE] Cops are quitting, so is it not possible to hire new ones? Of course, they hire new cops all the time, this is not a story or an issue!

Where are they going to get these new cops, R56? Why would they be much different than the guys who are leaving? And who the hell would want to be a cop right now, anyway?

by Anonymousreply 64June 24, 2021 2:51 PM

[quote]And cops are part of that problem by murdering innocent black people.

If only black people were responsible for their behavior and actions .

Cops are "part of the problem" only in your racist mind.

by Anonymousreply 65June 24, 2021 2:54 PM

There are millions of people who would kill for a position as a cop. Early retirement, huge pension, six figure salaries. Have you ever tried to apply for a position? You won’t get it because you can read what I just wrote and understand each word.

by Anonymousreply 66June 24, 2021 3:02 PM

"who the hell would want to be a cop right now, anyway?"

Anybody with a high school diploma wanting to earn big bucks (especially with O.T.), excellent benefits and a retirement system like no other.

by Anonymousreply 67June 24, 2021 3:05 PM

[quote] Chicago and LA have incredibly tough gun laws.

New York also. Get caught with a gun in New York City and it’s a mandatory minimum three year sentence.

Yet shootings are up, what, 200%?

by Anonymousreply 68June 24, 2021 3:43 PM

Oh, give it up, r54 you cop ballwasher!

My house isn't going to be "broken into" and actual police are of no use for such crimes. They aren't going to get your laptop and jewelry returned for you!

by Anonymousreply 69June 24, 2021 3:52 PM

[quote] Cops are "part of the problem" only in your racist mind.

I'm surprised you can even type with all the cop dicks in your mouth and ass.

by Anonymousreply 70June 24, 2021 4:02 PM

R68: Hence the DOJ going after the illegal gun running into these cities. Do you gun suckers pay attention to ANYTHING that goes on in this country?

by Anonymousreply 71June 24, 2021 4:09 PM

Police may be afraid to fight crime, but they are still fucking up peoples' lives all over this country.

by Anonymousreply 72June 24, 2021 4:11 PM

[quote] Then why does Chicago have such high gun violence?

95 percent or more of the violence is people who have lived completely out of the system for 50+ years. Jobs disappeared years ago, no investment in those areas, no banks, no money. Cops have intimidated or killed them for years.

They've formed gangs and their own world, and kill each other.

by Anonymousreply 73June 24, 2021 4:12 PM

[quote] Hence the DOJ going after the illegal gun running into these cities.

Oh, yeah. That’s making the gun crime plummet. Oh, wait.

Let’s make even more laws to outlaw guns.

by Anonymousreply 74June 24, 2021 7:01 PM

[quote] By the number of (black) citizens they murder in cold blood each year

That would be a total of 6 over a ten year period. And all faced justice.

by Anonymousreply 75June 24, 2021 7:14 PM

What justice did they face, R75?

by Anonymousreply 76June 24, 2021 7:32 PM

R74: Yes, we should have national laws that make getting more guns more difficult. Right on. And they just got started last week dear, do you expect Garland to wave a magic gavel and all the illegal guns are seized immediately?

by Anonymousreply 77June 24, 2021 8:53 PM

Do you think if they enact yet another law making guns illegal that’ll stop anyone from having them?

You know what the police do when they find an illegal gun, other than arrest the perpetrator in possession of it? They seize it.

Hasn’t worked yet.

by Anonymousreply 78June 24, 2021 9:08 PM

R78: So do nothing and let the killing continue. Got it. You gunsuckers need to shut up, you clearly do not care about this country or the gun violence problem we have. You're not serious people. Not. One. Of. You.

by Anonymousreply 79June 24, 2021 9:17 PM

There’s a wide swath between “do nothing” and enact more useless laws that aren’t working anyway.

You’re not very nuanced, are you?
