Where Do You Buy Your Clothes?

Men only thread.

Chinese e commerce sites like SheIn and Romwe. I know it's fast fashion which is bad but you can't beat the prices.

by Anonymousreply 3June 23, 2021 11:37 AM

I have started buying my tee shirts at American Eagle. The quality is much better than Gap and Banana Republic where I used to buy all my teeshirts.

Jeans I still get from Gap.

by Anonymousreply 4June 23, 2021 11:43 AM

I get a lot of casual clothes (shorts, tees) at Costco.

by Anonymousreply 5June 23, 2021 11:45 AM

Thrift stores - you can find clothes with the tags still on them. My best friend is a stylist and he helps me “cultivate” my style. Turns out it’s fun and cheap. It’s amazing what can be found and I’m not adding to the pollution of disposal clothing. Since I save so much on clothes though, my shoes are expensive and I get them on line (Allen Edmonds, etc.). I’m a retired corporate worker who used to spend a small fortune on clothes. A fortune pissed away.

by Anonymousreply 6June 23, 2021 11:53 AM

I don't know as my mom always buy stuff for me.

by Anonymousreply 7June 23, 2021 11:59 AM

Old Navy, Macy’s clearance. I hate shopping for clothes.

by Anonymousreply 8June 23, 2021 12:31 PM

Only GAP, of course!

Terrific quality and value!

R4 me too. 100% cotton and they last a lot longer and don’t shrink. They are onto something with this. The spring colors are are classic and I hope they keep this up.

by Anonymousreply 11June 23, 2021 12:36 PM

Men's clothes rarely change. Button-up shirts, polos, khaki/chino/blue jeans.

I have clothes and shoes I bought 30 years ago from thrift stores. I do not go to Kohl's.

My local farm supply store here in Oregon……a lot of the western wear shirts are paisley prints and other designs that were popular around 1966-69.. I like that look…slightly hippie looking…which explains why I like them so much……

by Anonymousreply 14June 23, 2021 1:18 PM

I also love Gap jeans and American Eagle tees.

Forever 21 has had some cool artist collections in the last few years (Basquiat, Keith Harring) and I own some tees from those. I've heard that the capsule collections like those are better quality than their regular shirts, but never bought any of their regular shirts, so I don't know.

I buy my work clothes from Brooks Brothers and Banana Republic.

I have a TJMaxx designer store near me, so I used to shop there and Nordstrom Rack a lot. I have found Gucci, Hugo Boss, Burberry etc. For everyday clothing and workout gear, I shop at Costco and Sierra.

by Anonymousreply 19June 23, 2021 2:08 PM

Since retirement and my donation of all my old suits, ties, shirts, and belts that I had to wear for my career, now I buy mainly @ Sam's Club, Walmart, Costco, and cheap shoe stores.

Don't need to dress to impress any longer.

The whole world has gone carefree and casual. I doubt I will ever be able to dress for complete comfort and not dress to impress. As I am shaped like a strange triangle, my suits, sport coats and other dress clothes have always been tailored to fit. This may seem like an extravagance but it makes the best of what I have to work with. It is also the best use of my time as I don't ever just shop for fun.

My casual clothes are from smaller companies that have sales every year. I always buy a year in advance. My yard clothes come from places like Orvis. I splurge on handmade sweaters from Ireland and dress shoes from Italy and casual shoes from the UK.

I know this is only the stupid advice of an old dude and therefore totally irrelevant here. Dress the way you wish to be treated and appropriate for the occasion. You will be amazed how people will respond- typically in a very positive way.

by Anonymousreply 30June 23, 2021 9:08 PM

Lands End. Their Super T's with/without pocket are great. Polos are great. All cotton Sail Rigger Button Downs (not "Comfort-First" ) are so well made. I know people look down on them because they are preppy and bought by Sears but I haven't found a quality to match it even at twice the price. ALways a sale. Today 50% off. Lord, it sounds like I work there.

Frederick’s Of Hollywood. I love the assless vinyl pants. Get so many compliments.

Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack. Decent selection. Easy returns whether you shop online or in person.

Nordstrom Rack. I don't love it but it's the best I can afford at the moment.

by Anonymousreply 38June 24, 2021 6:04 AM

I’m 6’3” and I’ve finally given up on buying anything that isn’t a tall size, since regular sizes more often than not are too short. Banana Republic and J Crew have surprisingly more options in their outlet store ranges that are tall sizes than the regular stores. Also t-shirts from some online companies like TallSlimTees that specialize.

R20 Walmart clothes aren’t even a bargain. I don’t care how old you are, that’s just tacky. At least get them at Target.

by Anonymousreply 46June 24, 2021 10:36 AM

DL Fashion Threads are fascinating in that while many DLers very much fit gay stereotypes in many regards, in terms of fashion the prevailing normcore aesthetic is the complete opposite of the usual Prada label queen aesthetic.

Second thought on this thread is that I haven't bought clothes in the past 18 months--I had enough t-shirts and sweatpants already. (I suspect I am not alone on that.)

by Anonymousreply 47June 24, 2021 10:43 AM

I mainly buy from an online retailer called The Iconic that ranges various brands. But I mainly buy the brand Scotch and Soda. Previously it was Ben Sherman which is a UK brand but I found their quality dropped so switched to S&S. I buy too many clothes which results in me cleaning out my closet every year. I give my friend a chance to look through to see if there is anything he wants then I gets donated to the thrift shop. A lot of stuff is barely worn which is something I need to work on.

by Anonymousreply 48June 24, 2021 11:10 AM

I shop on Indochine and I cry about it in underground carparks.

by Anonymousreply 49June 24, 2021 11:45 AM

R43 -- The only clothing I buy at Walmart are end-of-season polo shirts for $7.50, 100% cotton. And occasionally 100% printed cotton T-shirts on sale for $5. Quality is not bad.

by Anonymousreply 50June 24, 2021 11:56 AM

I really like the Red Head cotton shorts that Cabela's sells. Just ordered three more pair in various colors. These are true shorts, not the long shorts that I dislike.

by Anonymousreply 51June 24, 2021 12:00 PM

R43 - I disagree. You can get some very good fabrics there in end-of-season. I got undershirts, polo shirts and a pair if pants in 100% cotton and classic tailoring. No issues. When my sister was losing weight after having her son, she didn't see the point of buying stuff that she wouldn't be able to wear in a few months anywhere else. A basic pair of black leggings, some 100% cotton tank tops, basic Lee jeans and a classic white button-up were surprises she wasn't expecting there at all but it was 1/4 of the price at the mall.

by Anonymousreply 52June 24, 2021 12:02 PM

I buy stacks of things from The Iconic too R48. They have a really good selection and AfterPay. I like Scotch & Soda too. Its a Dutch brand so sometimes the sizing can be too tall and long.

Sneakers: Joe's New Balance or Amazon

Boat Shoes: Sperry or Amazon

Shoes (boots): Red Wing or Amazon

Socks: Amazon

Cargo Shorts: 511 Tactical or Amazon

Cargo Pants: 511 Tactical or Amazon

Jockey Pouch Underwear: Amazon or Penneys

T-shirts: Cafe Press or Zazzle

Caps: Kangol or Amazon

Baseball Hats: Rothco or Amazon

Sun Glasses: RayBan or Amazon

I really do not wear ANY other clothes than listed above. I live in a high altitude tropical climate (not USA). Amazon is listed repeatedly due to the fact that I live in a third world country where nothing is available and shopping is done on the internet exclusively and then shipped.
