by Anonymousreply 78July 2, 2021 5:03 AM

As long as it's not the oriental, I'm fine with it.

by Anonymousreply 1June 22, 2021 6:41 PM

I hope there is a safe space at the polling location for this big baby.

by Anonymousreply 2June 22, 2021 6:46 PM

Will the Dem winner be the presumptive new mayor or will there be runoff b/w top 2 vote getters in this primary? Which Repug candidates even have a chance? Andrew G won't.

by Anonymousreply 3June 22, 2021 6:56 PM

Go Eric Adams!!!!

by Anonymousreply 4June 22, 2021 6:57 PM

What if they gave a primary and nobody came?

by Anonymousreply 5June 22, 2021 7:02 PM

LOL, he's so weird. This and that is "voter suppression" etc. What an unstable weirdo.

damn, NYC is now so "woke" that they let rugs run for office?

by Anonymousreply 9June 22, 2021 7:13 PM

R3, I believe they are using rank-choice voting in NYC this election like we use in Maine. Not sure, but that might eliminate the need for a run-off since preferences are ranked by the slate of candidates by the electors.

by Anonymousreply 10June 22, 2021 7:21 PM

I’m still rooting for Kathryn Garcia.

by Anonymousreply 11June 22, 2021 7:26 PM

Anyone but that CHANG dork.

R1- As long as it's not the negro I'm fine with it.

by Anonymousreply 13June 22, 2021 7:27 PM

You assume that I care you said that, R13.

I don't.

I'm white.

by Anonymousreply 14June 22, 2021 7:29 PM

Okay, the anti-Asian person can fuck off please. You’re not funny. Enough.

by Anonymousreply 15June 22, 2021 7:29 PM

Adams seems FULL of himself, as if it's a done deal that he's going to be the next mayor of NYC.

by Anonymousreply 16June 22, 2021 7:32 PM

He just may be at this point.

by Anonymousreply 17June 22, 2021 7:38 PM

Shut your racist ass up R1. I bet you're one of those woke people who condemn racism on Twitter but post racist shit anonymously.

by Anonymousreply 18June 22, 2021 7:38 PM

Does anyone know what the betting pools are for this election?

by Anonymousreply 19June 22, 2021 7:38 PM

He is. He goes on and on about Klan grannies and posted that Carl Nasir needs to be cancelled because he’s deplorable, all while going around calling people chinks and orientals. He needs to be banned.

by Anonymousreply 21June 22, 2021 7:53 PM

No one's voting. No one's bothering to vote. Basically on the media care.

by Anonymousreply 22June 22, 2021 7:56 PM

You need to F&F all his posts to get rid of him. I don’t think he’s trying to be funny though. He says things like “Asians are lower than dogs.” and “All Asians need to be killed.” He’s deeply disturbed.

by Anonymousreply 26June 22, 2021 9:35 PM

What’s historic about it?

by Anonymousreply 27June 22, 2021 9:35 PM

All the diversity in the candidates, R27. We're bound to have a non-white mayor.

by Anonymousreply 28June 22, 2021 9:36 PM

Not if Garcia wins.

(No, she’s not Latin. Garcia is her married name.)

by Anonymousreply 29June 22, 2021 9:42 PM

I voted on Sunday. I ranked Garcia first and Adams second. Left the rest blank. I’ll be fine with either of them winning and it seems likely that one of them will.

by Anonymousreply 30June 22, 2021 9:44 PM

Bold prediction: the most corrupt one will win. New Yorkers love their corrupt politicians. Known commodities are better than unknown.

by Anonymousreply 31June 22, 2021 9:46 PM

Well?

by Anonymousreply 32June 23, 2021 2:48 AM

Adams is in the lead with 30% of the vote.Wiley and Garcia toed for second with around 21%. But no winner will be announced until July.

by Anonymousreply 33June 23, 2021 2:55 AM

by Anonymousreply 34June 23, 2021 2:55 AM

We’re getting more cops, right?

by Anonymousreply 35June 23, 2021 2:59 AM

Whoever wins today's democrat primary will be next mayor of NYC. On GOP side list of candidates is a joke, and none of them stand snowball's chance in Hell of winning come November.

That being said the elections to watch are for city council, borough presidents, and comptroller. That Williams guy is running virtually unopposed for public advocate so has that race sewn up.

A strong and united city council can make any mayor's misery their life's work.

by Anonymousreply 36June 23, 2021 3:14 AM

Yang is out (conceded) leaving Wiley and Garcia along with Adams in top three spots last time one checked.

There's a shit ton of absentee/mail in ballots that have yet to be counted. Final outcome of mayoral and other races might not be known for a few weeks.

by Anonymousreply 37June 23, 2021 3:23 AM

Obvious but missed point here; if this woman is working 12 hour shifts as full time, that's only three days per week. She can (and should) find a second job with other four days off.

Plenty of people in NYC who work "twelves" do just that including nurses and other healthcare workers.

Know and knew plenty of people through the years who worked second jobs while holding down a straight 9 to 5. The did retail or anything else they could find a few hours after work on weekdays, and or maybe one or two days on weekends for eight hours each day.

I'm sorry but in the end if you're not willing to help yourself the world does not owe you a living. Again if plenty of others are doing OT or part-time side gigs what makes this person and others like her special?

Restaurants, Starbucks, retail of all sorts along with other places are starving for full or part time employees atm. No one is saying you have to do it forever, just until you get in a better place economically.

by Anonymousreply 38June 23, 2021 5:31 AM

Uggh!

R38 posted in wrong thread.

Disregard....

by Anonymousreply 39June 23, 2021 5:32 AM

NYC is about to elect second black mayor in history. Adams surely has won primary unless something happens with absentee votes.

Even more upsetting hack career politician Gale Brewer is on track to represent UWS on city council *again*. This woman has never held a private sector job in her life.

Poor Corey Johnson doesn't look like will be next comptroller.

by Anonymousreply 43June 23, 2021 2:18 PM

People are sick of crime. Simple as that. That’s how Giuliani got in (I was there).

by Anonymousreply 44June 23, 2021 2:23 PM

R40 -- Gale Brewer is probably the most beloved politician in the city -- you can't find a single person (outside of you) who doesn't admire her. She spends her entire life working on the job, she gives everything she has to the city -- and on top of that, she fostered more than 20 at risk kids, adopted several of them, put them through school, and takes care of many elderly people in her district as well. And, she's on the boards of about 20 nonprofits.

So yes, she's never had a job in the private sector. That's because she's never cared about making money., She's given her entire mind, heart, body, and soul to New York.

by Anonymousreply 45June 23, 2021 2:28 PM

[quote]People are sick of crime. Simple as that.

Even Don Lemon was complaining about the crime last night, saying it's the number one issue for NYC voters.

by Anonymousreply 46June 23, 2021 2:29 PM

Why in the hell would anyone want to be Mayor of New York? It sucks!!

The only ones who would benefit from the job are the Mafia.

TBH Trump should have run for NYC Mayor first. He's stupid and corrupt so he would have been perfect for the job!

by Anonymousreply 47June 23, 2021 4:04 PM

R45

Blah, blah, blah...

One long statement to describe a career politician..... Ms. Brewer has a new house and all that family to support. She needs a steady gig that also goes towards a pension....

by Anonymousreply 48June 23, 2021 10:35 PM

Wow. R48. You really don't have a clue about Brewer, do you? Because what you said there in your post gives it away -- and yet you don't even have the slightest idea what an enormous mistake you made there.

by Anonymousreply 49June 24, 2021 4:06 AM

Other take away points from yesterday's voting....

NYC likely will have for first time in history a majority of females on city council.

Several previously term limited out council members won back their seats.

In an odd twist that happens once every twenty years those elected in 2021 to city council will serve just two years before standing for election again instead of four. This is because redistricting will take place soon based upon results from recent census.

Here's something to think about...

If everything falls into place come November, in 2022 NYC will have a black mayor, black DA of Manhattan (a first), black public advocate, several AA city council persons, black DA of the Bronx,

"If everything falls into place come November, in 2022 NYC will have a black mayor, black DA of Manhattan (a first), black public advocate, several AA city council persons, black DA of the Bronx,"

Yes, R52, because not everyone on Datalounge is a raging white Tucker Carlson acolyte like you.

by Anonymousreply 53June 26, 2021 2:13 PM

At least that idiot Maya Wiley didn't come anywhere near the NYC mayor's office. Congrats, NYC, you dodged a real bullet there.

Now Maya can do what Maya does best: going on Ari Melber's program and making a jack ass out of herself.

by Anonymousreply 54June 26, 2021 2:16 PM

R54

Don't be so sure, it ain't over until it's over. There are still a fuck ton of absentee and other ballots to be counted, Board of elections is saying final results of mayor's and other races may not be known until some time in July.

Meanwhile neither Maya Wiley or Katherine Garcia are throwing in the towel.

R52

There's more...

In Albany both houses of state legislature are lead by blacks, and the state attorney general is AA as well. Only white person in charge up there is Cuomo.

In other news an AA woman who is a socialist, progressive, liberal democrat seems to be on track to be next mayor of Buffalo having defeated a four term incumbent. Yes, AOC has reached out to offer congrats.

by Anonymousreply 57June 26, 2021 2:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 58June 26, 2021 2:42 PM

Voted for Garcia. But if POC want Adams, so be it. They went pro-cop, so they can own it.

by Anonymousreply 59June 26, 2021 2:47 PM

Yeah, this surprised me, too, r59.

I figured with his cop background he would have no chance.

by Anonymousreply 60June 26, 2021 2:50 PM

People were saying early as last year even as all the BLM shit was busting lose in city including looting and pillaging that 2021 was going to be the year a black man became mayor of NYC. That or no one would win without support of the coloured community.

It is astonishing when you think about it because coloureds only make up about less than one-quarter of NYC population, and that number is shrinking. Though we will know more as 2020 census data rolls out.

BdeB basically dedicated his entire mayoralty to blacks, engaging in race and class baiting on a scale that if reversed would never be allowed to happen Thus it remains to be seen if Adams does win in November which path he chooses to go down.

Progressive/liberal/socialist democrats will have their agenda. The AA community their own, and likely will demand certain things now that one of their own is mayor. Business community, unions, middle class (what's left of them anyway), will all have to be accommodated as well.

by Anonymousreply 61June 26, 2021 3:20 PM

[quote] was busting lose

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 62June 26, 2021 3:22 PM

[quote]The AA community their own, and likely will demand certain things now that one of their own is mayor.

Did they do that with Dinkins? Or maybe it was a different time…you were elected based on electability not race.

by Anonymousreply 63June 26, 2021 3:31 PM

People were sick of Ed Koch by his third term which was scandal ridden. David Dinkins was a product of the NYC democratic machine, so perhaps yes, in some quarters people felt it was time a colored person became mayor of NYC. It just wasn't the right time IMHO which was why Rudy Giuliani was able to make the man a one term mayor.

City is a vastly different place now in terms of demographics. Eric Adams performed rather well on Staten Island one of the few GOP strongholds remaining in city.

Think largest issue facing whoever is elected in November is that no one is exactly sure what NYC will look like immediately post covid in 2022.

The drumbeat about "inclusion" and "equality" isn't going away. If things pick-up where they left off before covid hit, whoever is mayor in 2022 is going to face calls from various quarters to take action.

Already rents have pretty much bottomed out, and in some cases begun to climb. This includes rent regulated apartments who will see increases starting 1 October 2021.

by Anonymousreply 64June 26, 2021 3:54 PM

Blacks make up 13% of the population of the US. They shouldn’t be making up 100% of any section of government.
