25 richest people saw growth of $401b but paid $13.6b in federal income tax or 3.4%...

... And all DOJ Garland Merrick wants is to find out who leaked this info? Priorities? I despair of the new administration.

Congress creates the tax laws. There are no "Loop Holes" Don't blame them for using the system Congrss created.

by Anonymousreply 1June 10, 2021 12:26 PM

R1 And your point is?

by Anonymousreply 2June 10, 2021 12:27 PM

3.4% tax paid is just offensive.

These mega rich oligarchs people have to pay a proper and legitimate amount of tax. And if the tax laws allover the world need to be changed then so be it and let's get on with it.

by Anonymousreply 3June 10, 2021 12:31 PM

He lets this slide and next thing you know, your tax returns and private information is being leaked. We already knew billionaires pay close to no taxes. This information is knowable. I’m not comfortable with someone in the IRS sharing personal information.

by Anonymousreply 4June 10, 2021 12:33 PM

We understand you ^ need to protect your future billlions.

by Anonymousreply 5June 10, 2021 12:37 PM

R2 the point is CHANGE TAX LAWS, but they won't because politicians take full advantage of how they're written.

Garland is trash. Watch Rachel Maddow’s 30 minute A block from Tuesday night where she dug deep into his tenure so far and it’s disturbing. Covering for Bill Barr. Completely ignoring the all out assault on voting rights in red states that is going on. It may have seemed “cute” to appoint him after how he was treated during his Scotus nomination but he was the wrong choice to lead a post Trump/Barr DOJ.

Justice for Sally Yates!

by Anonymousreply 7June 10, 2021 12:48 PM

And I was wondering why the Orange Turd's tax return info has never been leaked. Oh, well.

by Anonymousreply 8June 10, 2021 12:48 PM

R1 is 100% correct. Is it infuriating that the richest pay the most paltry amount of taxes? Sure. But it's legal. Your anger & frustration should be aimed at the government, the entity responsible for making it possible to get away with paying little taxes on big money. Getting pissed at rich people is simply misguided.

That’s okay. I don’t watch idiot conspiracy theorists who wind up with egg on their face every five minutes.

by Anonymousreply 10June 10, 2021 12:50 PM

Screw our infrastructure!

Duh. What else you got for us Einstein?

by Anonymousreply 12June 10, 2021 1:01 PM

Garland needs a better PR team, going in he had a lot of good will that he's pissing away. It's pretty hard to get that back

by Anonymousreply 13June 10, 2021 1:04 PM

It's not as if a crackdown on this daylight robbery can't be done. For a start, this yielded 34m. Which is paltry compared to the legal looting.

Maybe the reason Garland cried all the time during his confirmation (like a big sissy MARY) is because he knew what he planned to do at the DOJ and to the American people. Guilty conscience much?

by Anonymousreply 15June 10, 2021 1:49 PM

It's legal due to the money they lavish on politicians who make those laws. Those who keep saying it's legal sound retarded when the laws are written by and for the rich. Dumbfucks. Keep licking the boots of those billionaires though.

by Anonymousreply 16June 10, 2021 1:52 PM

R16 It’s legal, that’s a fact and also very very wrong. These billionaires aren’t somehow going to change or care unless the laws are changed. The fault is on our system. Is there anything we, as frustrated citizens, can do besides whining to change this situation? That’s a more interesting conversation.

by Anonymousreply 17June 10, 2021 1:58 PM

So OP, you want the new administration to go full-on leftwing when Biden won the election by only a few thousand votes in several of the swing states, the senate is 50/50, and the Supreme Court is 6-3 against us?

Please share some more of your keen insights as to progressive self-immolation. Thank you.

The DOJ Civil Rights Division handles voting rights. The new head of the division was just confirmed a couple of weeks ago. Also keep in mind that pre clearance no longer exists and there’s another case before the court that could further limit the DOJs ability to combat voter suppression. Congressional legislation is the real solution.

I doubt that you’ve correctly described Rachel’s show.

by Anonymousreply 19June 10, 2021 2:34 PM

Well, that makes sense.

We'd all be better off with cheeto still president and Barr still as AG.

Idiots.

Unlike the last presidency, perhaps we should follow a more systematic - and lawful - approach to dealing with situations than whatever personal agenda the idiot-in-chief wants to follow.
