Their top-shelf vodka is Ol' Taters.

That was my Aunty Bob's favorite!

by Anonymousreply 1May 6, 2021 11:41 AM

Tell us more about aunty bob!

by Anonymousreply 2May 6, 2021 11:49 AM

Four old drunk queens at the end of a bar, life is good

by Anonymousreply 3May 6, 2021 11:54 AM

Ive missed it.

by Anonymousreply 4May 6, 2021 1:03 PM

It's back to full crowds there now.

by Anonymousreply 5July 23, 2021 9:13 PM

But unfortunately, the great pianist Rick died a while back early in the pandemic.

by Anonymousreply 6July 23, 2021 9:17 PM

I sat back around the bend with my friend Paul about 8 years ago and we met the queeniest banker who talked about his art foundation in Venice, it was a lot of fun and my only time in the place.

Do they still have the fake English fox hunting scenes hanging on the wall?

by Anonymousreply 8July 23, 2021 9:24 PM

What's the cover charge?

by Anonymousreply 9July 23, 2021 9:27 PM

I'd rather go back to 1986 to Harry's Bar with Leona Helmsley!

Hookers and Instahos get in for free, R9. Everybody else is $20.

by Anonymousreply 11July 23, 2021 9:28 PM

Is this the place that used to be nicknamed “God’s waiting room” because it was mostly old people? Or am I thinking of somewhere else?

by Anonymousreply 12July 23, 2021 9:35 PM

Has anyone informed Jeannie?

by Anonymousreply 13July 28, 2021 6:11 PM

Yes, R12. The basement bar is where the truly old would hang out, the better to acclimate them to being six feet under it was said.

Tuppence

by Anonymousreply 15July 28, 2021 6:23 PM

Tuppence an old bag, R15

by Anonymousreply 16July 28, 2021 6:40 PM

My ex and his friends would dismissively refer to it as "a place for ribbon clerks"!

by Anonymousreply 17July 28, 2021 6:47 PM

HEY! I thought I was the DL's top home bar!

by Anonymousreply 18July 28, 2021 6:57 PM

Are the go-go boys in the basement back?

by Anonymousreply 19July 28, 2021 9:12 PM

[quote]My ex and his friends would dismissively refer to it as "a place for ribbon clerks"!

What does that mean? I must be too young to get that joke.

by Anonymousreply 20July 28, 2021 9:25 PM

Say what you will, dismiss it if you must, but I will never forget a guy I met there while I was in town for business. We weren't the youngest in the room but certainly not the oldest. One of the most unforgettable nights of my life.

by Anonymousreply 21July 28, 2021 9:26 PM

Are they still saying that it’s a “hustler bar”? Ive been there a few times over the last 20 years and never seen a hooker there. Just a lot of old decorators and realtors. The real men are at Eagle.

by Anonymousreply 22July 28, 2021 9:27 PM

R21 Well, don’t just leave us hanging. Tell us what happened that night!

by Anonymousreply 23July 28, 2021 9:29 PM

WHET the downstairs bartender, Marcedo I think? He was Brazilian.

by Anonymousreply 24July 28, 2021 9:31 PM

R20

I believe it had to do with their wearing suits there as a sort of "uniform"?

by Anonymousreply 25July 28, 2021 10:12 PM

I would go, but everyone there is so young. I would feel absolutely ancient.

by Anonymousreply 26July 28, 2021 10:17 PM

From an old post -- I can't find the link, but it went something like this:

Went to the Townhouse for a bunch of drinks and just to relax. I started talking to him and went back to his place. Man, the fun we had! It was sensual and romantic and even a little raunchy (he liked to talk dirty). It took me a long time to forget him and it even kept me from finding someone because I was looking for another guy just like him. He was handsome, intelligent, kind, and deeply sexy.

by Anonymousreply 27July 29, 2021 12:28 AM

Jeannie is the Townhouse's Auntie Mame -- she knows everybody, and if you're lucky, she might might make you a match.

by Anonymousreply 28July 29, 2021 2:36 AM

[quote] Are the go-go boys in the basement back?

No, and apparently there are no plans to bring them back. One of the bartenders said they don't go with the new image the Townhouse wants to have now.
