Prince won for best song score, which is different from best score and the category has been discontinued.

This was the only year that all the nominated songs were number one hits. Also the year of the legendary Ann reinking dance/vocal of Against All OF THE Odds

OP = The Copycat Thread Thief piece-of-shit moocher.

Below is the "Favorite pop songs of the last 10 years" thread where the OP stole the idea for this thread from me. You can scroll down to Reply 45 to see where I first suggested a Limahl remix. Then the OP chimes in at Reply 63 to belittle my contribution but steal the idea for this thread anyway.

It's really telling that OP didn't start this thread two years ago when a hit show made a musical sequence out of the "Neverending Story" song. Copycat Thread Thief might have actually approached relevance at that time. But Copycat Thread Thief is hopelessly, perennially irrelevant. She doesn't watch new shows, she doesn't follow the news, she doesn't do research, she doesn't have good taste, style, knowledge or an authentic personality of her own. She just lazily kicks back and waits for others to mention something, then steals the idea for "a thread of its own" and another bid for relevance. She's too cheap to pay writers or do her own research.

I think I might have to start suing Muriel for all this plagiarism. God knows I have LOTS of documentary evidence of the Copycat Thread Thief starting a new thread every time I've introduced her to artwork. I have a strong suspicion that the Copycat Thread Thief is just cheap Muriel herself.

Regardless of who this shady, mentally ill person is, one thing is certain: I reduce my participation on DL by about 7 percent each time one of my contributions is ripped off for a redundant "Thread of its own" and somebody else's cachet.

Any time I have helpful information or suggestions for the posters here, particularly from pop culture, I just keep it to myself 95% of the time now. Generate your own work and do your own research, you unoriginal, little parasite.

Sweetie this is a discussion of how "The Never Ending Story" was snubbed of Oscar nominations, not just the theme song. Now take your meds and go to bed.

by Anonymousreply 9May 6, 2021 2:09 AM

Perhaps the Academy was Too Shy, Shy.

by Anonymousreply 10May 6, 2021 2:16 AM

Should have been nominated for Art Direction too.

Also the Limahl song was not the theme song. It doesn't include anything from the score but the lyrics are referring to the story.

by Anonymousreply 12May 6, 2021 2:20 AM

It was made way outside of the Hollywood bubble (in Germany, with a foreign crew), so the Hollywood assholes didn’t bother giving it its proper credit.

by Anonymousreply 13May 6, 2021 2:31 AM

Gave me nightmares as a kid. Didnt realize the theme song was sung by a man until a couple years ago.

by Anonymousreply 14May 6, 2021 2:35 AM

My best friend in high school and I had this weird moment once where we looked at each other and spontaneously both yelled “Falcor!” at the same time. Truly one of my most bizarre experiences ever. It came out of nowhere and neither one of us could explain it

by Anonymousreply 15May 6, 2021 2:37 AM

Is Limahl gay? He still looks hot today.

by Anonymousreply 16May 6, 2021 2:46 AM

Noah Hathaway certainly seems fucked up today. Obviously on drugs and addicted to tattoos which is a shame because he's a handsome man. His Instagram shows he's quite disturbed.

Hi, R8.

Could you please link to 20 or so of your amazing posts? I plan to rip them off until you decrease your participation here to zero.

Thanks!

by Anonymousreply 18August 18, 2021 1:48 AM

Yes, Limahl is (openly) gay.

by Anonymousreply 19August 18, 2021 1:56 AM

Noah Hathaway was obviously fucked with as a child. There's a lot of porny jailbait photos of him as a preteen out there.

by Anonymousreply 20August 18, 2021 2:07 AM

Noah was a beautiful boy who grew into a not so good looking adult. I saw those pics R20, and if they were pedo bait I dont know what is. Oliver Barret really surprised me. He was such a talented young man he should have had a much bigger career. I love this movie,it still speaks to the child in me. I watch it at least once a year.

by Anonymousreply 21August 18, 2021 2:22 AM

I believe Noah also got physically hurt while filming the horseback riding scenes for The NeverEnding Story. Ended up with a nasty spine injury. He quit acting after Troll, 1986, to go to school and returned in the 90s and just got stuck doing B-movies. From the interviews I've seen, he seems like a nice guy but he's obviously on drugs and seems to have demons. His Instagram is mostly him nude showing off his tattoos. I'm shocked he hasn't gone into porn yet.

by Anonymousreply 22August 18, 2021 3:10 AM

Are all those Neverending Story tattoos his? I love the movie but that's...kinda sad.

by Anonymousreply 23August 18, 2021 4:01 AM

I had such a crush on Atreyu as a kid. Although, perspective is so crazy. We were confused when Bastian described him as "a little boy" because from our slightly-past-toddler perspective, he looked like a grown man. (Bastien looked like a kid, though.) Coming back to the movie as an adult, Atreyu does indeed look like a young boy and it was a bit of a shock.

by Anonymousreply 24August 18, 2021 4:13 AM

So Noah had physical trauma from the horseback injury which he still suffers complications from and had to fundraise recently to pay a medical bill. And possible sexual abuse trauma (those photos he took as a young teen were very creepy). No wonder he's a tattoo-addicted methhead.

Alas, but age, too much sun, and ill-advised plastic surgeries have not been kind to him. These days, he looks like Tollund Man.

Isn't there a rumor that Limahl got kicked out of Kajagoogoo for being gay?

Loved this movie. It still scares me when I watch it. Kind of like the Goosebumps series. They don’t make’em for kids like this anymore.

LOL

by Anonymousreply 30August 18, 2021 1:22 PM

Remember the movie Return to Oz which came out a year later and it too had a dark theme to it.

by Anonymousreply 31August 18, 2021 3:28 PM

Return to Oz was dark but much closer to the Oz books by L. Frank Baum than the 1939 classic was. Dorothy is supposed to be 8 or 9 years old in the books. Judy was clearly 16 years old and having her act like a little girl made Dorothy in the movie seem a bit slow.

The 80s was the golden age for children's fantasy films which likely were influenced by Star Wars Mania.

Like The Dark Crystal, The Neverending Story, Gremlins, The Last Starfighter, E.T., The Secret of NIMH and The Last Unicorn. Disney actually released a lot of their darkest and ambitious films during that decade too like Flight of the Navigator, Tron, The Great Mouse Detective, The Black Cauldron and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? before The Little Mermaid got them back into their formula.

by Anonymousreply 33August 19, 2021 2:04 AM

The woman in the music video isn't the actual singer, she's one of Limahl's backup dancers.

There is also a French version of this song which features a different female vocalist accompanying Limahl. I think it's called Sans L'Histoire or something.

by Anonymousreply 34August 19, 2021 2:08 AM

Don't forget "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" which was so intense for kids attending a PG rated film, the massive complaints ushered in the PG13 rating.

by Anonymousreply 35August 19, 2021 2:32 AM

And let’s not forget the fabulous David Bowie who starred in the muppets fantasy. Labyrinth. I thought he did a fantastic job with his acting skills in this movie. One would have thought he’d been acting for years.

A very talented man he was indeed.

by Anonymousreply 36August 19, 2021 6:45 AM

[quote]I thought he did a fantastic job with his acting skills in this movie. One would have thought he’d been acting for years.

"Labyrinth" was Bowie's tenth film, so he had been acting for years.

by Anonymousreply 37August 19, 2021 9:18 AM

^ Thanks for correcting me. Wow, I knew he had some experience. He’s really good at it. Thanks

by Anonymousreply 38August 19, 2021 10:57 AM

R17 I feel sorry for Tami. I'm sure she had a crush on him when they were kids, but now she seems weirded out by him.

R22 Noah's Instagram also reveals that he is an anti-vaxxer, gun nut, Trump fan & LOVES chicks with dicks. He also seems very sad & lonely. I kind of hate myself for following him on IG, but he really is quite likeable.

by Anonymousreply 39October 7, 2021 8:48 PM

I just googled Limahl and am shocked at how much he looked like a chicken with that crazy hair.

“Never-ending Story” is such a comfort film for me, brings back memories of my childhood and much simpler times.

by Anonymousreply 40October 7, 2021 9:09 PM

IMO Noah’s made himself look hideous as a reaction to his childhood abuse. The same way many CSA victims gain weight etc as a defence mechanism
