She is correct. What isn't mentioned enough is that most Afghans actually don't want the troops to leave--they know what will happen if they do. Afghanistan and Iraq are NOT the same.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | May 4, 2021 2:42 AM |
Exactly, r1!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 4, 2021 2:43 AM |
I would say we dodged a bullet, but Trump was too weak to follow through on his pledge to end the war, so it ended up the same.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 4, 2021 2:48 AM |
And a resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan/Pakistan effects the US how? That is a regional problem. This is the 21st century, we cannot stay in these fourth-world shitholes forever
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 4, 2021 2:58 AM |
We can always up and fly over there from one of our nearby bases and blow them into the Stone Age, if they get uppity. It's not like they have an Army, Air Force, Navy or Marines.
Maybe Biden is baiting them to do just that.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 4, 2021 3:23 AM |
[quote]Afghanistan and Iraq are NOT the same.
Yes they are. Muslim factions fighting one another for power, control and the wealth that goes with it.
[quote]and blow them into the Stone Age,
You can't blow people back to where they've never left.

r4 Remember 2015 refugee crisis? How about new ISIS formation? That's what happened when a power vacuum happened in region of angry, tribal men.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 4, 2021 4:26 AM |
And ISIS and the refugee crisis effected European countries far more than America, R9. Let the EU deal with that shit, America has been doing it long enough now
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 4, 2021 5:10 AM |
If the Afghanis can't solve their Taliban problem we certainly can't. The bitter pill is that the situation is Lose - Lose. No matter what you do, its bad.
I don't think the USA has the guts and the intelligence background manpower to airlift several hundred thousand Afghanis out of there right now. Its going to look like Saigon, and Baghdad.

Let's look at a different scenario. Suppose the US was taken over by its fascist altright faction. Should another power station their troops here? What would the benefit of that be?

by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 4, 2021 7:46 AM |
She's wrong about everything. Besides, the US would be withdrawing 2,500 troops while 18,500 private contractors would remain. Either she is uninformed or purposely misleading people. She's a warmonger.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 4, 2021 11:12 AM |
Like in Libya, Hillary?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 4, 2021 11:16 AM |
It's like the end of teh Vietnam War. Not a pretty picture for peope who've worked with us (and hopefully we will treat them better-create a special immigration quota, etc.) but basically the country is and always will be a basket case filled with corruption.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 4, 2021 11:23 AM |
The US should not be the world's policeman. Let Israel do it.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 4, 2021 11:26 AM |

Yes, strictly a regional problem! Nothing to worry your pretty little heads about!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 4, 2021 12:20 PM |
The US hasn't been at war in Afghanistan for a long time. It's a policing issue and has been since the initial attack.
The only option is to stay there and keep spending American money and lives policing the tribes, or leave and plan to fix the problems that are created in the vacuum when they come up.
Considering Afghanistan has practically no strategic value for the US, I think it's fine to leave. Yes, it means the Taliban will likely take over again, but it's not worth us staying there indefinitely which is the alternative.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 4, 2021 12:45 PM |
Hillary has been correct about everything. She’s brilliant at seeing through the lens of political rhetoric. She would have put the USA on the right track.
Unfortunately, she was raked through the coals by the misogynistic patriarchy who claw and hoard power.
My hope is that the Biden team has a long term strategy that is beyond our scope.

Hillary has decades of foreign policy experience, she likely still gets the Presidential Daily Briefing through Bill. I don't think she's right in this case, though.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 4, 2021 1:06 PM |
Countdown is over. I'll say it. Hillary is a warmonger. She's the reason Libya and Syria are in the state that they are today.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 4, 2021 1:10 PM |
Her view is based on the US being a sole superpower blustering its way around the world.
Nothing good will come from staying on in Afghanistan. Nothing ever did.
If one wants to address Islamic radicalism, this is not the way - for this only fans the flames. As usual.
The obvious approach is not politically feasible. So it's better to just get out and leave Afghanistan to Afghans.
Hillary has not learned anything here, much as I admire and like her.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 4, 2021 1:33 PM |
We’ll have another 9/11 at this rate.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 4, 2021 1:35 PM |
Yes we will. Staying in Afghanistan will not prevent it.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 4, 2021 1:37 PM |
Over-the-hill Hill is not the cause of on-going conflict in Syria, Libya or Afghanistan. 4,000 years of tribalism and Islam are. R9 is spot on in his assertion that endless conflict in the region is caused by power vacuums, the unending quest for power, control and the wealth that goes with it. In addition to Mullahs and the Sauds using the area as a chessboard for their own power/control goals. The region's ruling despots are cruel and brutal to keep challengers at bay. It's also the reason that the area produces nothing but humanity. If you barely have enough to eat and to feed your family, you're going to be far too busy worrying about where your next meal is coming from to challenge the ruling despot.

Decades of foreign policy experience should be a disqualifier. It's been nothing but a disaster post WW2.

Rumor has it Hillary is still being a sore loser over the loss to Donald Trump in 2016.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 4, 2021 2:30 PM |
Look, Hillary. Afghanistan isn't a US colony, protectorate, or territory. We don't belong there.
Our troops were sent not after the Taliban but to sieze the mines and opium poppy fields: aka precious gems; gold and rare earth minerals; and heroin.
But especially to sieze and control the fields of oil and natural gas.
"The War on Terrorism"? Whoever thinks that---Grow up! Read! Wear your real glasses and not your rose-colored ones!

A lot of Afghans who worked with the US military as interpreters, etc. have moved to the US. I’ve had two Afghan Uber drivers who told me that. One of them had a huge fat dick who went all Taliban on my man pussy with NO MERCY.

Afghanistan has BPD. They've been emotionally blackmailing the world for decades with threats of "If you abandon us, we'll kill ourselves!"
It's worked up until now. But at some point, you have to call their bluff and move on with your life. They will ALWAYS be a toxic country.

R35 she also served on the Armed Services Committee for eight years in the Senate.
It's Impossible to have a reasonable discussion about her without it devolving into ad hominem attacks. She attracts similar unhinged venom to what Meghan Markle does. It's also more than a little misogynistic.
This thread is just a Hillary-bashing thread, so have at it.

The American people had the opportunity to make this stupid bitch president twice and both times they said HELL no. The first time they chose a virtually unknown US Senator over her, then they chose a reality TV star over her.
When will she take a hint and realize nobody cares what she thinks about anything?
Pay her no mind, Uncle Joe. Keep doing what you’re doing and let this jealous hag who will never be president keep yelling at clouds.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 4, 2021 9:31 PM |
R53 She'd have been a better POTUS than either man she lost to but the issue here is foreign policy. As an elder statesman of the party her opinion is valuable.
But I don't think the opinion itself matters as it's along traditional US foreign policy that's essentially fucked up.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 4, 2021 10:31 PM |
Defacto/r53 is the equivalent of a Repig, r54. He's racists too. Lost cause. Ignore him.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 4, 2021 10:42 PM |
R54 would she really have been better than Obama or Trump though? Everything she’s ever touched has been a disaster.
Bill Clinton puts her in charge of health care reform. It fails, and Democrats lose the House for the first time in 40 years. Democrats across the country are defeated in record numbers in the midterms.
She votes for the Iraq War, which she has to come out against 5 years later when that war becomes a quagmire.
She opposes same sex marriage, which she eventually has to walk back and support, calling into question which time she was lying or if she was lying both times because she actually has no principles at all.
For as much as we hear from the media what a competent expert she is, she actually spills soup all over herself on a fairly regular basis.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 4, 2021 11:20 PM |
[quote] She's the reason Libya and Syria are in the state that they are today.
No she is not. And seriously, blaming her for Syria? What's next, blaming her for Kuwait and Bosnia? ASSAD is the man responsible for Syria. Everyone else has a secondary role.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 4, 2021 11:22 PM |
[quote] would she really have been better than Obama or Trump though?
Yes. And many, many Dems voted for the Iraq War. That is the fault of missrepresented intelligence by the you-know-what party. And she did oppose gay marriage, that's true, but she also was very pro-gray despite that. She publicly marched with gyas in the late 90s/early 00s I think. And even Bernie didn't back gay marriage. He backed civil unions in Vermont. And when pressed if he supported gay marriage, he refused to provide an answer. And this was in Vermont!

I voted for HRC, but Joe is no neophyte. He's had his good Senate votes and his bad Senate votes; his good advice to Obama and his (probably) bad advice to Obama.
But he is no longer a Senator nor is he the Vice-President; Joe Biden is the GD POTUS, and Hillary Clinton is not in his Cabinet!
Go, Joe!
