I’m a year and a half younger than he would be, and I grew up in metro Detroit. I went to Menjos in the mid-80s, and I can attest to just how sketchy and crime ridden the area around Menjos was. If he didn’t park in the attended bar parking lot, there is a good chance he was mugged and killed.

Someone kilt him is what happened.

I graduated high school in 1985. Those photos remind me of myself back then. I remember graduating high school, moving out of my home, going to college, having jobs, going to gay bars, struggling with my sexuality, all in the mid-80’s in America. I remember very well what the world was like back then. It was so long ago. This poor guy’s life was snuffed out back then, with so much ahead of him. What a tragedy.

I disagree, R24. If it had been a typical gay bashing or simple mugging, then the killer(s) would have simply left the body where it was. Removal and decapitation is a hallmark of a serial killer. I'd bet he was picked up in or near the bar, abused and killed, and then disposed of in pieces. Hopefully the perp is dead or behind bars forever -no one deserves that kind of end.

We don't know that decapitation took place, R26 - all we know is that he was dumped in a river, and that his skull was found nine years later. Normal decomposition and water currents could well have separated the skull from the rest of the body.
