Changing the mourning emblem is a very stupid modernizing by whoever is in charge of bringing the monarchy into the 21st century. Black-edged paper is a lovely way to indicate mourning. Now, we are switching that with a black crest/monogram on top. There's no difference in the affectation of the writing paper. Best to leave this small detail as is and look at the critical, structural changes the monarchy needs

When I was a kid, we received a letter from friends of ours who’d moved to Europe. I remember seeing my mother open the envelope and sink into a chair at the kitchen table because it had a black edge. Then she read it to us; the son (my age) had been killed in a car accident.
