Yes, I forgot to include the word “to.” Oh, Dear!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 19, 2021 11:46 PM |
Those skits weren’t the least bit funny, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 19, 2021 11:49 PM |
R5, the phrase and the delivery of the phrase were funny.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 19, 2021 11:52 PM |

- Jack Benny (famously frugal) after a very long pause, in reply to a robber who points a gun at him and demands "Your money or your life!"
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 20, 2021 12:22 AM |
Op that line isn’t funny.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 20, 2021 12:24 AM |
OP wins, and yes, the line is funny then and now.

“Allison you are humiliating all of us”
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 20, 2021 1:51 AM |
It IS funny. SNL's Point/Counterpoint was a takeoff on a 60 Minutes segment of the same name, featuring James Kilpatrick and Shana Alexander in a one-minute conservative-vs-liberal debate. Akroyd accurately nailed Kilpatrick's brittle delivery.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 20, 2021 2:14 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 21, 2021 3:31 AM |
R44 here. Sorry. Didn't think of the post as just four words. I'll go through the rest of my life with my dress stuck in the back of my pantyhose.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 21, 2021 3:34 AM |
R43 for the win.

[quote]“Jane, you ignorant slut”
I just don't get the humor in this phrase Never have. Can someone explain it to me?
Let me just say this is not based on any feminist idea bla blah bla, I just don't get it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 21, 2021 1:05 PM |
"He's a righteous dude!"
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 21, 2021 1:14 PM |
R48 I don’t get it, either.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 21, 2021 1:15 PM |
Dan’s character has no control over his reaction to being questioned by a woman, even while cameras are rolling.
Y’know, like a Republican.
That’s what’s funny.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 21, 2021 1:16 PM |
In what, dog years?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 21, 2021 1:19 PM |
R51. Ooh, okay. Well, that's kinda funny. Certainly not worth all of the acclaim tho
Thanks

by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 21, 2021 1:20 PM |
Wouldn't fly today, that's for sure.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 21, 2021 1:29 PM |
R51. I feel like the real humor is the abrupt, uncalled-for escalation from simple debate on some political issue to over-the-top, personal, un-PC jab. All delivered in a monotone, matter of fact manner
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 21, 2021 2:09 PM |
It's Aykroyd's delivery that makes the line a classic. R56 is correct.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 21, 2021 2:31 PM |
The above few get it. It's just such a pompous, misogynistic, way over the top statement and just so ridiculous that makes it funny. That was back when women's issues were coming to the forefront - Gloria Steinem et al - and his white male privileged was threatened. Single Mary Richards moving to a new city by herself was still a novel concept.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 21, 2021 2:49 PM |
Op you big piece of shit!
Haha so hilarious??
by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 21, 2021 4:28 PM |
No, "Jane you ignorant slut" is not funny out of context. It wasn't funny heard out of context in the skit, which is not something anyone would attempt today in a world of preciousness against comedy amid the foulness of reactionary hate speech.
It's not funny in the context of the skit itself, either. It just sets the tone, theme and delivery of Ackroyd's screed, which itself is where the humor lies. Curtin, too, is funny, but just as a straight intro to the clincher.
OP = Lout

Henny has it as R24.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | April 21, 2021 5:03 PM |
Thank God R60 arrived to let everyone know what’s not funny. Without her we’d be laughing needlessly.
