Oh, is that why he’s some kind of spokesperson for the vaccines?

by Anonymousreply 1April 18, 2021 8:30 PM

So the poll choices were McConaughey, Abbott, or someone else. Hardly a ringing endorsement of any of them. "Someone Else" got 22%. I wonder if this is all a PR stunt but Matty is crazy and narcissistic enough to think he could be governor and/or (barf) president.

by Anonymousreply 2April 18, 2021 8:34 PM

Matthew McConaughey is not currently running for governor.

OP likes to start threads making statements out of context.

Troll thread.

by Anonymousreply 3April 18, 2021 8:36 PM

Y'all don't realize how enormous this is. Fucking Hot Wheels Abbott has always trounced any possible competitor. Greg's got to be shitting himself.

McConaughey would be a big improvement over Abbott who's an evil asshole. Dubya and Rick Perry were just dumb (it must be said the job of Governor is not particularly demanding here). Abbott's as bad as Cruz. And this would shake the teabaggers who run the state to the very core.

by Anonymousreply 4April 18, 2021 10:48 PM

McConaughey can't run unless he comes out of the closet. His rivals would out him making him look bad.

by Anonymousreply 5April 18, 2021 11:15 PM

He’s not gay, R5. Bi, perhaps, in which case he’s not really in the closet.

by Anonymousreply 6April 19, 2021 2:37 PM

his pussy is worn out and dried up

by Anonymousreply 7April 19, 2021 2:39 PM

R4 - I'm tired of the influence Texas governors have had in our political life. Bush Jr, Rick Perry and now Abbott - all three complete idiots or evil motherfuckers.

There was a shining moment with Ann Richards over 25 years ago, but otherwise, since then it's been a fucking clown car and the rest of the country is supposed to take these fools seriously.

McConaughey is an egomaniac who believes he is genuinely a lot smarter than he actually is. Maybe in Texas, he is smarter than the average Texan - but that's not saying much.

His career is pretty much over - most people see him as a complete joke. He'll definitely go into politics - it's just acting in a different way. If it takes away from other insane politicians from Texas, then OK.

by Anonymousreply 8April 19, 2021 2:44 PM

R8 If McConaughey can get Abbott's fucking ass outta there, he gets my vote. Beto is not gonna run: if he loses to Abbott his career's over and he's young and would be better off taking Cruz down in 2024. And Abbott thinks he's gonna run for President in 2024. Losing the Governorship would kill off that slimebag once and for all.

The Texas Tribune was shocked by this poll. First time any potential match-up knocked Abbott out and by double digits. Even after Abbott's gross incompetence with the freeze became apparent, he still had an astonishingly high approval rate. He plays the pity card endlessly - poor guy in a wheelchair - and gets a lot more support than he deserves.

McConaughey's pro-gun control and banning assault weapons and the NRA and rightwing are already attacking him for that. The morons in the Texas legislature passed a permit-less carry law this week. Absolute insanity.

by Anonymousreply 9April 19, 2021 3:54 PM

Will Kate Hudson or Sarah Jessica Parker endorse Matthew for governor? I hope his campaign doesn't experience a FAILURE TO LAUNCH.

by Anonymousreply 10April 19, 2021 3:58 PM

Woody Harrelson is moving back home to Texas from Hawaii and maybe he and Willie Nelson will be Matt's campaign managers.

by Anonymousreply 11April 19, 2021 4:01 PM

Alright alright alrighttt.. 😏

by Anonymousreply 12April 19, 2021 4:10 PM

OP is worse than Greg Abbott...

McBongo 2028!

by Anonymousreply 14April 19, 2021 4:25 PM

His constituents in Texas were freezing, children even freezing to death in their own beds and this motherfucker went on Fox News and blamed Green Energy for the outages. He knew that this was a total lie but this guy has absolutely no shame or decency to take responsibility for his failures. So if McBongo runs for governor, I hope he'll win in a landslide and kick this lying piece of shit out of the governor's mansion. Even an aging Hollywood actor can't be worse than this guy.

by Anonymousreply 15April 19, 2021 5:52 PM

Governors in Texas actually don't have that much power. Texas' political infrastructure is strange: the Governor and city Mayors are largely ceremonial roles. The Lt Governor has more actual power: he sets the political agenda for the legislature and controls the budget. City mayors are boosters. It's the County Judges who control the cities in their counties. This is why people in Texas never took Julian Castro seriously. Outside Texas people were proclaiming he was the mayor of a major city - Texans knew he did jack shit and had no power.

by Anonymousreply 16April 19, 2021 6:19 PM

Ugh. Make McBongo governor and then build a wall around Texas with him and his shitty Lincolns inside.

by Anonymousreply 17April 19, 2021 8:08 PM

You do realize R17 that there are more Democrats in Texas than in NewYork state, Massachusetts or Illinois? Only California has more Democrats than Texas.

by Anonymousreply 18April 21, 2021 6:28 PM

r9 Beto and his take their guns comment destroyed his political career in Texas and national office. He said the things out loud that are only supposed to be said behind closed doors.

by Anonymousreply 19April 21, 2021 6:42 PM

r18 they are fucking useless right now since the Republicans keep kicking there asses in the voting booth. GA shouldn't have turned blue in two elections before TX. But then GA has a sizable black population that's loyal to the non-Pro White Party. TX minorities are Hispanics that wish nothing more to be accepted by white folks once they get their citizenship, they ain't loyal to shit and vote red.

by Anonymousreply 20April 21, 2021 6:45 PM

Also R20 the Georgia GOP had some ethical statewide officials who stood up to Trump's bullying. Texas GOP is 100% corrupt. They cheated like crazy in the 2018 election.

No way did Beto lose. They pulled every trick in the book: closing down polling stations in minority districts and at colleges, forcing black voters to use 'provisional' ballots claiming there were differences in their signatures or the names on their voter's ID cards. And then the Secretary of State - a lackey of Abbott - threw all the provisional ballots out. Voting machines were programmed to flip the Senate vote when you voted straight Democratic ticket to Cruz. Social media was full of photos from voters who noticed what happened and photographed it on their phones. Needless to say, most people who voted straight Dem wouldn't go back all the way through a ballot that was 10 pp long to check and vote again, vote by vote.

Trump stationed the army in the Rio Grande Valley (a Democratic stronghold) 2 weeks before early voting started and Trump ordered the Border Patrol to do 'crowd control' on Election Day in El Paso to intimidate people. And of course somebody financed a 'caravan' from Central America scheduled to arrive at the border just before the election, a caravan Lyin' Ted claimed Beto personally financed. The caravan disaappeared the day after the election.

As the Texas GOP manages to run Texas like a banana republic, I don't think any Democrat can take Abbott down. He also has control of $50 million in dark money, mostly from oil magnates. McConaughey might in fact be their Achilles' heel: how do you fight against somebody with 100% name recognition, whom Anglos, Latinos and African Americans all like. It would be a nightmare for Abbott.

by Anonymousreply 21April 22, 2021 1:02 AM

Somebody needs to replace Gregg Abbott and get his sorry ass out of office. That said...

America still apparently hasn't learned its lesson about choosing its political leaders from the entertainment/acting industry. It never turns out well.

by Anonymousreply 22April 22, 2021 1:48 AM

R22 - there's nobody else who can conceivably take Abbott down. Texas Governors are weak compared to Governors of other states. Lt Gov has too much power. Which is why I don't think Beto would be interested. It's largely a figurehead/state booster kind of job. Perfect for McConaughey.

Abbott runs a dark money bank which supports all Texas Republicans. Kick his ass out and deprive the Texas GOP of its money base.

by Anonymousreply 23April 22, 2021 4:00 PM

[quote]That lens credence to my believe that most Texas Democrats are actually Libertarian.

and you are still wrong just as you were about Chauvin and your screams that Russian election interference was debunked. Do you ever get tired of making an ass out of yourself?

by Anonymousreply 24April 24, 2021 5:31 PM

He does have a great ass

by Anonymousreply 25June 5, 2021 11:24 AM

Abbott is freaking out - he used to have a reputation of being vaguely moderate - at least as compared to rightwing nutjobs Patrick and Paxton. Now he's primaried on the right by Florida Man Allen West (who said he wanted Texas to secede and be a Republic again - West would have been somebody's property in the Republic of Texas) and some other rightwinger former Congressman. So Abbott's now to the right of Hitler.

Abbott's a moron. He won reelection easily in 2018 when he seemed vaguely moderate whereas Cruz, Patrick and Paxton barely squeaked through. Trump only won Texas by 5% the lowest margin any Republican has won Texas since Jimmy Carter. Abbott's ripe for the picking. Beto may run, he's testing the waters touring the most rightwing parts of Texas (Midland, the Panhandle, East Texas). He won the cities solidly in 2018. If he doesn't run, I'm thinking McConaughey might. Beto and McConaughey appear to be pals - they've been photographed together several times. There's really nobody else in Texas who could conceivably take Abbott down. Texas Democrats are always scared as shit at running statewide - the scaredy cat Castro Bros being typical of ball-less Dems.
