Why didn't he have an agent negotiate the salary?

r1 idiocy, ego, cheapskate. it's rather commonplace in the last decade or so to avoid formalities altogether and just hire deadbeat family or friends instead...
though to be fair, firms are far more selective of clientele these days and don't put up with as much shenanigans, offering steep contractual clauses... of course, the firms themselves are often in competition with production companies and studios that have moved towards in-house reps.
while agencies have always been a bit cringe. . .
escort services look more legit than his current reps -- which are more akin to a temp agency or unemployment office than agents. they bill him more as corporate speaker on asian issues.

He is a good looking man

He’s gorgeous. Pay him whatever he wants!

He was mistaken in thinking that it was an ensemble cast when there were clearly 2 leads--O'Loughlin and Caan. Had it been a "Friends" situation, where all 6 principal castmembers banded together to leverage a pay increase, then it would've happened. But here, Kim and Park demanded parity with the leads, and O'Loughlin and Caan weren't cool with that.

What was his pay and what was he asking?

From Variety: Industry sources said O’Loughlin and Caan are making about $200,000 per episode apiece for the upcoming eighth season of the show, produced by CBS Television Studios. A source close to the situation said CBS’ last per-episode salary offer to Kim was about $5,000 apart from the two lead actors, and CBS offered to set a new overall deal with Kim’s 3AD production banner. However, sources close to Kim said the differential was more significant.
The dispute on the difference in compensation levels may hinge on the fact that O’Loughlin and Caan have a small share of the backend profits of the show. “Hawaii Five-0” commanded a lucrative $2 million-per-episode cable syndication deal with TNT in 2011, although the show turned out to be a lackluster performer for the cabler. It remains a successful property for CBS in international markets — all of which means O’Loughlin and Caan’s profit participation stakes probably plump up their take-home pay considerably.

That sucks. I love this show.

I liked it during the initial seasons. After he left, they brought on one lackluster character after another. I quit watching.

Can not stand the two leads bro-talk. I’ve watched a few episodes and liked all the other characters but Caan ruins it.

The two stars know that without Kim and Park, their salaries are up for grabs for them. Happened in my office. Two highly paid marketing guys 86’d. Soon, their pay was carved up to 2 VPs and the Pres. like everyone in accounting didn’t see that coming.

His name looks weird. "Dae" alone isn't a Korean name. He should use his full first name or lose the "dae."

He took a big pay cut from Lost that was years ago with a very large ensemble and where he definitely was not one of the leads?

Dayum look at those cheekbones. He’s hot but I’m not watching that shorty show.

During the span of the series all of the original leads received salary increases, though Matthew Fox received a bigger bump.
