Grammar Test

Please identify the correct subject of this sentence.

BLANK went to the store.

by Anonymousreply 29April 12, 2021 1:35 AM

I saw "me and him" on a thread the other day. And the guy was lecturing me.

by Anonymousreply 1April 10, 2021 10:38 PM

Kelsey and I went to the store. You did say it was a Grammar test, didn’t you?

by Anonymousreply 2April 10, 2021 10:39 PM

That would be "GrammEr," r2.

by Anonymousreply 3April 10, 2021 10:42 PM

They are all wrong unless you asked the person their preferred pronouns first.

by Anonymousreply 4April 10, 2021 11:01 PM

WE

by Anonymousreply 5April 10, 2021 11:08 PM

It's a trick question. The correct answer is BLANK.

by Anonymousreply 6April 10, 2021 11:17 PM

OP, in case you’re genuinely struggling with the correct answer and/or why, think of it this way:

You would say,

He went to the store.

I went to the store.

Hence, he and I went to the store.

by Anonymousreply 7April 10, 2021 11:38 PM

He and I. I was using "The King and I" as reference.

by Anonymousreply 8April 10, 2021 11:47 PM

But, r8, there are circumstances where the King and me or me and the king are appropriate.

by Anonymousreply 9April 10, 2021 11:48 PM

Vivian Vance and I went to the store.

by Anonymousreply 10April 10, 2021 11:51 PM

Technically, I think that musical should have been called "The King and Me".

by Anonymousreply 11April 10, 2021 11:54 PM

You, r11? The king never liked you.

by Anonymousreply 12April 10, 2021 11:58 PM

When do we get our grades from this little pop quiz?

by Anonymousreply 13April 11, 2021 12:02 AM

Where are the grammar Nazis when need 'em? Well?

by Anonymousreply 14April 11, 2021 12:08 AM

[quote] Where are the grammar Nazis when need 'em?

They don't emerge from their holes until dark.

by Anonymousreply 15April 11, 2021 12:14 AM

# But, [R8], there are circumstances where the King and me or me and the king are appropriate.

But not in OP's "BLANK went to the store" example.

by Anonymousreply 16April 11, 2021 12:15 AM

I don't need to know the inner-workings of language. I'm a 10!

by Anonymousreply 17April 11, 2021 12:18 AM

None of them are correct.

It should be "Zi and Xe" went to the store.

How dare you marginalize people by not including non-binary options.

Rather, none of zirm are correct.

by Anonymousreply 18April 11, 2021 12:31 AM

It's a case of subject pronouns vs object pronouns. Gender doesn't come into it at all.

He presented hole. I presented hole. He and I presented hole. He and I are subject pronouns.

The porn star fucked him. The porn star fucked me. The porn star fucked him and me. Him and me are object pronouns.

The dildo was for him and me. He and I used it.

Got it?

by Anonymousreply 19April 11, 2021 2:26 AM

Him went to the store.

by Anonymousreply 20April 11, 2021 3:40 AM

Actually, “I and he” is also correct. Just awkward-sounding.

by Anonymousreply 21April 11, 2021 4:03 AM

What if you're Yoda?

by Anonymousreply 22April 11, 2021 1:41 PM

"Went to the store, he and I did."

by Anonymousreply 23April 11, 2021 1:59 PM

"A disturbance in the force, me and him sense."

by Anonymousreply 24April 11, 2021 2:23 PM

This is 2021, OP. The correct form for millennials and Gen Z would be, " Him and myself went to the store."

by Anonymousreply 25April 11, 2021 4:23 PM

[quote]It's a case of subject pronouns vs object pronouns. Gender doesn't come into it at all.

It's 2021.

Haven't you heard? Gender ALWAYS comes into it all the time.

And, don't you forget it.

by Anonymousreply 26April 11, 2021 9:56 PM

Woke : " They and myself..."

by Anonymousreply 27April 12, 2021 1:27 AM

Both "He and I" and "I and he" are correct.

Duh.

by Anonymousreply 28April 12, 2021 1:30 AM

[quote] Duh.

"Duh" is never correct, unless you barely graduated from sixth grade.
