Have any of you guys went to a Christian school? What denomination was it?

How was the experience? How were your peers? Did it affect how you viewed your sexuality? Have you checked up on your peers?

I went to an Evangelical school. I want to say that it was a horrible experience for me, but that is a little bit of an exaggeration. I was teased for being "different", but I am sure it wasn't that out of the ordinary. I recently checked on my peers and they seem to be doing well for themselves in a middle-class way.

by Anonymousreply 1April 9, 2021 9:27 AM

I went to an Evangelical denominational college. I drank.

by Anonymousreply 2April 9, 2021 9:33 AM

OP, I don't believe you went to any kind of school.

by Anonymousreply 3April 9, 2021 9:38 AM

"Have any of you guys went to a Christian school?

I went to an Evangelical school."

Sounds about right.

OP--you need to finish grammar school first.

by Anonymousreply 8April 9, 2021 10:59 AM

Is this a joke? Or is OP serious?

by Anonymousreply 9April 9, 2021 8:20 PM

My sister went to Christian school for her last two years of high school, mainly so she could go to school with her BFF. She says she was the only one in her class who didn't drink. LOL

I remember looking at her US history textbook one time, and it definitely had a right-wing/fundamentalist slant. Ex: It said that the Social Gospel movement among mainstream Protestant churches during the robber-baron era was a sinful socialist-flavored corruption of "true" Christianity.

K-12 at Christian school (Christian Reformed). Some of the kids were vicious, most are very successful today. I felt free when I went to a public college.

by Anonymousreply 11April 9, 2021 8:56 PM

Episcopalian boys' school.

by Anonymousreply 12April 9, 2021 8:58 PM

^ My mom and my grandmother went to an Episcopalian girls' boarding school. It was run by Anglican nuns who wore Flying Nun headpieces.

by Anonymousreply 13April 9, 2021 9:02 PM

So, Op—ok, so, Cletus. What kind of them thar book lerrnen did they learn ya?

by Anonymousreply 14April 9, 2021 10:49 PM

My brother sent his two kids to an expensive Christian elementary and high school. They're college-age now. One of them is a hyper-over-acheiver wound so tight trying to be the perfect boy you can hear the rubber bands snapping. The other is an adamant drop-out leftist who believes if you aren't on the BLM picket lines, you aren't Christian. She's convinced all of her Christian relatives are imperialist colonizers and is now not speaking to them.

Go figure.

by Anonymousreply 15April 10, 2021 12:09 AM

Op, did you fail grammar ?

by Anonymousreply 16April 10, 2021 12:11 AM

Yes. It was Baptist. It was fine, as schools go.

OP, have any of you went to the creationism museum? It is a fact-free day of enjoyment for them homeschooled kiddies.

by Anonymousreply 20April 11, 2021 2:39 PM

[quote]have any of you went to the creationism museum?

There's a whackadoodle named Carl Baugh that runs The Creation Evidence Museum southwast of Dallas next to a state park known for its excellent preserved dinosaur tracks. This guy claims that the Earth was created surrounded by frozen crystal lattices of water that kept the entire earth at much higher barometric pressure (like living in an iron lung). This is why normal lizards grew to extraordinary sizes that we now call them dinosaurs. And that harmful radiation from the sun was screened out, which is why Biblical characters like Noah and Methuselah lived for 100s of years. It also supposedly gave the light a pinkish tint, which improved eyesight.

Well, when God decided to smite evil men and cause the Great Flood, it was caused by the collapse of this great crystal canopy, which fell onto the Earth and melted, causing the great floods. The loss of the high barometric pressure caused all giant animals to shrink to current modern sizes, and the loss of the screening of the suns rays, shortened human life to less than a hundred years. However, he'll be happy to sell you rose-colored glasses that will bring back some of the heavenly healing for your eyes (and give them to all your friends and loved ones!

He was also taking donations to build a large hyperbaric chamber to raise some dinosaurs. He just knows he can do it.

Lest you thought I was joking, here's the link to his dead-serious Crystalline Canopy theory.

I went to an evangelical school. The public schools in my city were horrible and poor but respectable mom wangled me (adorable well-behaved smart kid) a scholarship.

It was quite a trip, but there were many good people there. Some were nightmares. About par for the course, as I learned in my subsequent secular education. It was academically rigorous, so it was worth it.

by Anonymousreply 23April 11, 2021 3:28 PM

R20. Apparently grammar-free as well, if you are an example of such education.

by Anonymousreply 24April 11, 2021 3:29 PM

I entrusted my nephew's education to Acacius Page. His favorite class was Fish Families".

by Anonymousreply 25April 11, 2021 4:30 PM

A loud “whooosh” sound travels over R24.

by Anonymousreply 26April 11, 2021 11:44 PM

My christian school was academically tough, when I went to public college the courses were a breeze compared to high school. I think if I went to the local public school I would have been on the honor roll easily, at my christian school I was killing myself to get B's.

That was in the 80's. Now they opened their doors to athletes of any religion because they were tired of losing with all white teams. So it is a different atmosphere now.

by Anonymousreply 27April 11, 2021 11:50 PM

A friend of mine went to a Christian college where they made each student sign a form stating they would not dance while attending. Because you know, dance is the devil making your body do unnatural things and can lead to...I don't know...more dancing?

She's no longer Christian which is funny. She said she and her friends would go out dancing all the time because it was a ridiculous policy. Her knowledge of science is very questionable though, which is sad considering her college cost a lot of money. She doesn't wear deodorant because "it can cause cancer" (debunked YEARS ago) and she refuses to own a microwave because "it changes your food." I am the more logical/scientific one and it frustrates me to no end when I explain something has been proven to be an urban legend and she just replies, "Well that's your opinion." No, science based facts are not "opinions." She's also a believer in the "big pharma just wants to keep you sick" narrative and into holistic healing.

So the term "Christian School" is an oxymoron.
