Tasteful Friends: A multimillion dollar townhouse renovation in Brooklyn Heights

Gorgeous house, but what the heck is “muscular crown molding”?

Crown molding is the decorative trim that bridges wall to ceiling surfaces.

The owner turns me off. I bet he's a fey nasty old queen with bucks and never lets you forget it.. May he never have a days peace in that pile.

by Anonymousreply 204/07/2021

I like that they photographed the guy with the huge gunt behind a bush.

by Anonymousreply 304/07/2021

His S&C photo is a zillion years old

Actually he made me sort of sad R2

He's a partner at a big law firm, clearly gay and no partner.

I suspect he works 18 hour days and is rarely in the house and even when he is, rarely has anyone to enjoy it with--he likely entertains clients and potential clients there and hires a caterer to do the cooking.

It's a lot of house for just one person.

That said, my husband and I could be quite happy there--it's definitely well decorated, albeit hard to get an idea of the flow of the place from a few random photos.

He spent big bucks on the furniture. No Ikea for the guest room ;)

Yup, gay

He's a bootstrapped not an Ivy League douche (like myself). Why the negative reaction R2?

by Anonymousreply 704/07/2021

OP “muscular” is a precious way of stating that while the crown moldings, and the millwork in the house overall, take cues from the Greek Revival style original to the house, they are not exact historical recreations of what was once there . Rather they are substantial and properly scaled but more modern interpretations — simplified in profile and detail.

[quote] Why the negative reaction [R2]?

Because DLers hate successful out gay men R8. We've had multiple threads on this.

by Anonymousreply 904/07/2021

It was a gut reaction R7. I have a lot of these guys as clients, I'm in Private Banking. They are insufferable and nasty.

by Anonymousreply 1004/07/2021

Thanks for that explanation R8

by Anonymousreply 1104/07/2021

You may be correct but I'd be curious to hear what from R2 what put him off.

I do think spending almost 4 million bucks to renovate a 5 million dollar old towntown is a bit nuts, especially at his age, but he's surely rolling in dough.

by Anonymousreply 1204/07/2021

old townhouse

by Anonymousreply 1304/07/2021

R10 Ok then. Thanks. I guess I agree with you on that point!

by Anonymousreply 1404/07/2021

Love the renovation, especially the kitchen. But 3 things I find off putting. That sofa in the living room is much too large for that room (an L shaped sofa is not appropriate for that room), and that silly coffee table is heinous. And that built in bookshelf in the other room with the shelves so damn close together you can't even stand a normal size book up they way they're supposed to be shelved is stupid. I hope that ridiculous socially distanced side stacking of all the books was just for the photo shoot. If he actually lives that way he needs psychotherapy.

by Anonymousreply 1504/07/2021

I started my career in private banking. then bailed and became a bohemian. If I bought a 5 million dollar property I would bring it to code and otherwise live with its age.

by Anonymousreply 1604/07/2021

They're sad and lonely and bitter R10

They are like Datalounge come to life

by Anonymousreply 1704/07/2021

Townhouses = rats.

Esp in Brooklyn

by Anonymousreply 1804/07/2021

Ok then what are you doing on DL? I mean you are assuming a lot but I do agree on the gut renovation. Lets see the house in Quogue.

by Anonymousreply 1904/07/2021

Hmm r5, aren't you being a little bitch over the fact that some people have the audacity to be single rather than partnered up like you.

Are you a little jealous perhaps?

by Anonymousreply 2004/07/2021

How does R5 know what and who the man does in that house? He may be single because he likes to be single. He may have a different piece of tail in his bed every night for all we know.

by Anonymousreply 2104/07/2021

I like it.

by Anonymousreply 2204/07/2021

[quote] “It says that the house cannot be used to perform or promote abortion, euthanasia or paid pornographic performance,”

Well, that's a dealbreaker.

by Anonymousreply 2304/07/2021

That stupid extra clause added into the contract by the crossbacks is completely unenforceable. What the new owner does with the house once it's sold is none of the seller's business.

This closet is worth millionS?
