Songs you remember fondly that aren't mentioned much anymore
We have the worst songs list in another thread, but here we can come at it naming some songs we liked a lot but hardly anyone seem to reference anymore. They still sound good and give pleasure. Good novelty songs that are ripe for rediscovery, too can be mentioned.
Sylvia -- "Pillow Talk" -- one of the sexiest songs evah!

From 1973, but I played this a lot in the 80s and 90s as friends passed away.
"Friends With You" - John Denver
What a friend we have in time. Gives us children, makes us wine. Tells us what to take or leave behind. And the gifts of growing old, all the stories to be told of the feelings more precious than gold.
Friends I will remember you, think of you, pray for you. And when another day is through, I’ll still be friends with you.
Baby’s days are never long. Mother’s laugh is baby’s song. Gives us all the hope to carry on.
Friends I will remember you, think of you, pray for you. And when another day is through, I’ll still be friends with you. Friends I will remember you, think of you, pray for you. And when another day is through, I’ll still be friends with you. My friends, I will remember you, think of you, pray for you. And when another day is through, I’ll still be friends with you.

Some great blasts from the past. How about Mellow Yellow from Donovan? Reminds me of being 16 on a hot summer day--I didn't know it was about drugs. I didn't know WHAT it was about, just liked it. Does this song have the lyric "I'm just wild about 14?" (Matt Goetz territory?)

Another great instrumental: "Sukiyaki."
Also the "Lolita Ya-Ya," the theme from Lolita. Not technically an instrumental but functions as one. And how weird (but right) it was to have the "ya-ya" singers not be seductive girls, but bored-sounding teenage boys.

This was a decent-sized hit in 1978, it reached #21 on the Billboard Hot 100, #11 on the dance chart, and #8 on the R&B chart.

This song was a big hit and a radio staple in the 70's.
Since then, it seems to have disappeared down the memory hole. It doesn't seem to be included in the canon of great 70's classics. Even when 70's one-hit wonders are discussed, this one rarely gets a mention, if ever. Weird, because it seemed destined to become such a classic. Everybody and their mother did a cover version back then.

My sister took dance lessons as a kid at the local dance studio.
They had to do a routine to this song, so my parents went out and bought the 45 so she could practice. It was the first record that was "ours", and we played it over and over again. Catchy little tune, but seems to have been completely forgotten nowadays.
(BTW, my sister was fat, so she always got stuck in the back row of those dance recitals! We'd go to watch her dance, and we couldn't even see her! LOL)

I had this 45 when I was 8 or 9 years old. The chorus was an irresistible earworm to a little kid, and it was a big hit at the time. But like most novelty tunes, it now falls into the "lost classic" category: never heard or played anywhere.
As a perpetually horny little bastard, I also found the lyrics really intriguing: guy dreams about a hot bikini-clad chick, goes chasing after her, finds her bikini top behind one door, her bikini bottom behind another door, and the hot chick (now presumably naked!!!) behind a third door.

R79, I think one of the reasons that Goldsboro's music is almost never played nowadays is because it came out sometime in the early 80s that he had a collection of kiddy porn. Also, one of his teenaged daughters accused him of being pervy with her and some of her friends.
Possession of kiddy porn hadn't been outlawed yet, so he didn't face charges, but it made the news during his divorce and custody battle.
