If John Paul is spiraling out of control, I think now would be the time to recast his ex-partner, Craig Dean. .. Craig IS Matthew's other father after all. Just do it.

The original love story may have been memorable, but after this long, Guy Burnet (who is never going to return) is totally replaceable, imho. .. And this time, hire a hot, openly-gay actor to play Craig who can bring it.

I'd suggest Kris Mochrie. He and Burnet have a similar look; however, I'm not sure if Mochrie wants to act in a regular soap gig any longer. .. At some point, they could even have Mochrie's real-life fiance, Max Parker, show up as the personal trainer (Hans) whom Craig supposedly dumped J.P for over in Singapore .. lol.

Looks like James is still risk-taking, and he takes hooker Luis to a gambling casino with him.

That picture at R10 is very shaded, I thought that guy was grabbing his junk.

The hardcore McDean fans would erupt r9 if they try to recast Craig even though as you said Guy is not coming back.

Other McDean fans who were so "hardcore" might actually appreciate revisiting the relationship with a new, improved actor in the role. .. I see someone put a thread up on the Digital Spy "appreciation" forum back in 2012 asking about McDean fans and got four whole replies. .. lol

Find the right hot, openly-gay actor who's got any kind of social media following and that might be all they'd need to win people over. - jmho

The paramedic in Friday's episode was kinda cute. I was thinking they should have him recur now and again as a guy who's dating Scott.

Some think that Hollyoaks is looking like they might pair up DeMarcus and Leah and are concerned. While the characters ages on the show are only about 1or 2 years apart. The actress who plays Leah is either 15 or 16 irl while the actor who plays DeMarcus is supposedly somewhere in his mid to late twenties.

James hired rent boy Luis again despite John Paul telling to go back home to Ste all because he wanted to celebrate while Ste didn't want to.

I don't think that Luis has the same level of skills that Harry had when he was a rent boy who fell for James.

I remember hearing both Ste and Felix make separate comments on the age difference between DeMarcus and Leah.

DeMarcus isn't too bad in scenes with Felix, but I find Leah nearly unwatchable - bad acting.,which surprises me, given how long she's been around. .. Of course, that terrible dance school story didn't do her any favors.

R39 Yeah, and with JP a full-blown alcoholic, now would be the time to recast NuCraig - since he is Matthew's other parent - so it would make sense for him to show up to see what's happening with his son. .. And they could actually kill two birds with one stone here, and not only have Craig arrive to figure out what needs to be done about Matthew, if JP doesn't clean up his act, but also have the personal trainer that Craig ran off with accompany him. There could be some cracks in their relationship, and James could see this and take an interest in the guy. Make him a Harry clone... lol!

Imran going on a date with Serena but being nervous Imran invites friends along but when Serena tries getting a little intimate with Imran or feeding him, he runs away from her thus setting up his new story about his eating disorder.

the Mercedes/Deidre/Bobby plot makes no sense and I hate it.

What was the huge build up to the dungeon basement? I thought Bobby was going to hold all the McQueens hostage down there.

R44 I thought Bobby was just going to lock Mercedes down in the basement, so he could have his mother all to himself.

The fact that Bobby has mommy issues AND a gay uncle might portend for the future.

When Bobby turns 16, I could see him starting to chase older guys who remind him of Sylver as some kind of repressed guilt over leaving him to die.

Did Mercedes even find out/accept that Bobby killed Sylver (effectively)? I feel like it was all but glossed over when in fact it should be generating months/years of story....The new EP chopped Sylver so I wonder if that thread is being dropped because the EP doesn't want to invest in the character anymore. It all just seems to be dragging, especially for Hollyoaks, which is by far the fastest-moving soap in the UK and US.

R46 I remember Mercedes discovered Sylver's final video to her on Bobby's tablet and when she confronted him about it, Bobby was able to talk his way around it, and said something about that he'd kept it a secret because he was afraid Mercedes would blame him for Sylver's death. He also wanted her to not tell anyone else about the video. But Mercedes did tell Teresa about it, but I don't think she actually showed the video to her. Teresa was suspicious about the circumstances, but Mercedes told Teresa that she didn't want Goldie to know about the video and became upset with Teresa. This was around the same time when Teresa had witnessed Bobby push Kathleen-Angel off her bike on purpose and later Bobby threw a chair at Teresa herself. Teresa's accusations inflamed Mercedes and made her dig her heels in even more about defending her son. Soon Wendy showed up and things shifted that direction. Perhaps they're saving the reveal of Goldie finding out till later.

R47, thanks. I’m ready for Deidre to be gone. Her American accent attempt is so grating. The plot I’m enjoying the most is Ste+Sienna’s gangster hijinks with hottie Ethan. Ste and Sienna both crack me up and Ethan is a great foil for them.

R48 Deidre? Are you talking about "Wendy?" .. Wendy has come from America, and Jennifer Armour is an American actress I think the accent you're hearing isn't her attempt at doing one, but more the type of accent one hears in Minnesota, where the actress is from.

Silas wants Bobby away from Mercedes because he not only thinks she's a slut, but because he believes Bobby is the little genius who is his living legacy, or something like that.

Personally, I think they've dipped one too many times into the Silas material. Wait! Make that three too many times now. I don't get the fascination with this character that some viewers seem to have.

When I first started watching, James was pimping out Harry, who had recently gotten beaten up and robbed while “sleeping rough.” Harry’s john admired his bruises before ushering him into the bedroom. It was then that I knew how different Hollyoaks is from most American soaps.

Harry was able to once figure out a specific former John of his by the shape of his torso in a picture on a hook up app.

The thing is that James and Harry complimented each other very well and had excellent chemistry together. I wish the rumor of alleged issues that Parry supposedly had with Bryan Kirkwood would have been worked out and especially now that Bryan is gone. So that he could possibly come back say as Harry's long lost twin or "near identical cousin " named Larry or Barry.

Have Ste and Sienna ever had a story together before? I’d go back and watch it if so. They’re soooooo funny together. Corrie and Hollyoaks are both excellent with comedy.

Ste's sister, Leela, and SIenna have been mates since around the time Sienna thought Peri was her missing daughter - with Leela having to come clean with Sienna and tell her that Peri was actually HER daughter and not her sister. And it was also Sienna who outed Danny Lomax's brief affair with George Smith after Danny had promised his wife, Sam, that he wouldn't have any more downlow affairs (after Sam had learned about Danny's relationship with John Paul). That happened not long after Ste himself found out that Danny was his bio-father. .. So while Sienna's had some involvement with the Lomaxes, nothing too significant with Ste.

Danny Lomax also had a brief affair with John Paul Mcqueen who would later on marry and eventually divorce his biological son Ste.

To the Parry-Harry fans out there ....

I'd still like to see him on EE as Johnny Carter (perhaps come to help Nancy run the Queen Vic after Mick exits), but it's something to get him back on TV.

Luke had a hot ass but he couldn't live forever.

Luke has been dying for the last two years, it’s about time. This has been the long goodbye. I assume it will happen at his wedding for maximum impact and tears?

It was Gary Lucy's idea to kill Luke off with a disease that was going to be a lengthy process. Not sure if the production shutdown due to the pandemic extended the timeline, though.

Gary was smart, he saw the Hollyoaks pretty boy purge of actors and negotiated a long exit that bought him a good storyline and years of work.

I guess James and Ste are over for now. Who is little Matthew living with if John Paul is still staying at James flat? A new teen twink named Joseph has been introduced and Kelle Bryan who plays Martine is leaving because she quit the show.

Whoa, no more Martine? Are they recasting?

I don't know r79. For now it seems that Martine is going to move in order to be closer to Toby, who was recently attacked and moved to another prison.

Well some are now upset over the way Luke died.

I think it was more fitting for Luke to go the way he did than to be lingering in some hospital bed.

They've repeated over and over how Luke didn't understand the danger in certain things, and why everyone's been so frightened whenever he's taken off on his own, owing to why Cindy said he didn't know that standing so close to the edge was dangerous..

At least the last shot of his face showed Luke happy and smiling.

I also think it was a really nice send off to do a location shoot in Mallorca for this memorable long-term character and the producers should be applauded for putting up the cash to take us there.

R78 Matthew is still living with the rest of the McQueens, and his separation from his alcoholic father plays into upcoming story.

So James is going to fake his own death and did it feel like there was a tiny bit of sexual tension between James and the guy he owes money to when they were having a conversation or was that just me?

Are they slowly transitioning out all the McQueens as a family? I just caught up with a few episodes to see Cleo sent off to India. Or is she having another kid?

R85 The actress playing Cleo was pregnant in real life, so she was scheduled to exit to have her baby (which she did last month). But when she exited, they also announced that was it for the Cleo character, so this isn't like a regular maternity leave, and she wont' be coming back (unless they decide to write her back in somewhere down the line).

I haven't heard anything about them writing McQueens out. Not counting the kids (or Sally), there are still five of them in that house. One thing that's kinda odd, though, is that except for Prince, none of the others have a love interest.

R86 The McQueens have no love interest because people have wizened up and realize they all end up dead, that’s basically the McQueens curse and now no one wants to date them. And the sooner they kill Prince’s fiancée the better, she’s such dead weight, I hope Nancy strangles her with the umbilical cord after she helps Nancy give birth as they are held hostage in the teachers room over summer break for some inexplicable reason.

I love Olivia, Prince’s fiancé. She’s near-psychopathically competitive over being head teacher…it’s such a perfectly nothing stake to have humorous drama around.

The actress who plays Thresea McQueen recently announced that she is pregnant. So the show will either have to incorporate her pregnancy into the show or eventually temporarily write her out of the show.

As head teacher, Sally comes off pretty dense most of the time.

They should fire her ass, and bring in Patrick Blake's twin brother, "Derrick" to run the school. He's gay and not abusive like Patrick. Derrick soon discovers that he and the football coach hooked up on Grindr once.

R84 Well, we've seen the character of Jeremy before, and we know he's gay, so perhaps the actor was putting a little bit of that into his portrayal. .. But given their prior history, I think it's more that Jeremy feels resentment and hostility toward James.

The James stuff is so repetitive. “I’m sorry, I’ll change!” “We’re done with you!” And repeat ad nauseam.

Three of the four gay guys left are addicts now: Ste, crystal meth. John Paul, alcohol. James, gambling.

Yeah, r96, and Scott is a sexless joke obsessed with being a mother I mean parent. They need to do a little better.

I generally like Scott (in small doses). I think he and Brother Damon work well together, and I don't mind the fostering story.

I thought they might solve Scott's sexless problem by having him begin dating "Keith," the (gay) social worker, who placed Vicky. This wouldn't really need to be a story, just an occasional diversion now and again to show that Scott's got some kind of life beyond advising Vicky on boys and make-up.
