U.S. to Sanction Russia Over Its Treatment of Navalny
[quote] The Biden administration is preparing to impose sanctions against Russia over the poisoning and jailing of opposition leader Alexey Navalny, according to three congressional aides briefed on the plans.
[quote] The sanctions will be unveiled as early as Tuesday, the aides said, offering no specifics and describing the moves on condition of anonymity ahead of a formal announcement. The measures will involve the State, Treasury and Commerce Departments, according to one aide.
[quote] The measures, if carried out, would be the first ordered by President Joe Biden against Russia and would set the tone for relations with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. The White House had no immediate comment on Monday night.

Thank God. Why he moved back to Russia before Biden was in office was really shortsighted.

Navalny is a masochist and kind of a martyr, R1. He can’t stay away from Mother Russia—he has this misguided notion that it can be turned around.

Misguided. Hmm. May be.
He is a leader who cannot show fear. The longer he stayed away the more his people would fall apart. He's up against the most ruthless person who rules Russia with an iron hand. Yes he's now being killed slowly before our very eyes.

Just want to note, not that I really care one way or another, but we are putting sanctions on Russia for messing with their own citizen but haven't placed sanctions on MBS for murdering that journalist. Again, I don't really care for SA or Russia so Biden can do what he wants, but the optics are rather interesting.
