I love both Debra and Maya and find no pleasure comparing and contrasting them as the tones of MADtv and SNL are quite different. That being said, MADtv's performers were no less talented than SNL's, and oftentimes were better, and many (especially the women) deserved better careers than they ultimately got.

Love Maya. SNL’s writing often has intermittently been bad on some episodes. But there were years back in the day when they had more castmembers who who were comedic actors, and not just personalities, celebrities or stage comics who only can read lines off cue cards. Maya and her work reminds me of that era and I’m glad when she comes back to visit or host. 👍

Maya is not a woman you want to see naked. The flesh fell off her bones some time ago. Her face too. It's not that usual and has nothing to do with weight. Just skin density and some bad genetics. Her skin just hangs from her body like a dog who's had too many litters. I'm not a fan actually. Her alleged great impressions of Beyonce, Donatella and Kamala are actually all quite bad. Now you can do an inaccurate impression if you bring something insane to it, like Phil Hartman or Kristen Wiig excelled at. Maya just kind of poses and wrinkles her nose, or throws back her hair or lowers her voice. She's a great friend of SNL, but she's not very good. Like Alec Baldwin. I'm not lacking her subtlety. That would be great. She's so subtle she puts met to sleep. She's just dull. Her vivaciousness is that of a tired mom. She was the weak link in Bridesmaids too. Now the truth can be told.

These sketches have been pretty vague. No strong characters or pointed satire, just some mugging and forced bits. Harumph.

I know some people are difficult to imitate but Martin Short as Douglas Emhoff? Didn't look, sound or act like him and it seemed like the show allowed Short, like many other guest comedians, to go OTT and be "wacky" and manic without it adding anything other than to say "Oh, look, there's Martin Short being Martin Short!"

I always forget Martin Short is alive until I see him on TV and go... oh yeah.
