He's 76. Doesn't NBC think it can do better at this point with someone younger, who is less enamored of Kate McKinnon playing overeager male politicians, which everyone else in the universe finds creepy?
When is Lorne Michaels finally going to retire?

Never

Well, he's got to drop dead at some point.

The weird thing is, he left 41 years ago, came back after five years and now it'll take dynamite to blast him out. I guess in the interim he discovered he can't be successful at anything else.

Is there some lifetime contract that the Not Ready for Primetime Players sign that confers involvement and royalties on all future projects to Lorne?

Right, which reinforces the fact that without SNL he's...well, SOL.
As exec producer of SNL, he had it written into the players' contracts that HE owns all of their SNL characters, which makes him a de facto producer on any project they do involving those characters...all without him lifting a finger.

They should hire Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to run SNL now.
