Is there going to be a 2021 State of the Union address?

Maybe Joe is going a different direction and skipping it?

by Anonymousreply 17March 1, 2021 2:50 PM

There is no official State of the Union address during the first year of a presidency. Instead the new president is typically invited to speak before a joint session of Congress.

I think we all know the answer to this question.

by Anonymousreply 2February 28, 2021 11:20 PM

Do we, r2?

by Anonymousreply 3February 28, 2021 11:22 PM

Yes, but it hasn’t been scheduled yet.

OP is asking because the Fascists are all claiming Trump's speech was the SOTU address.

by Anonymousreply 5February 28, 2021 11:28 PM

Biden forgot...

by Anonymousreply 6February 28, 2021 11:33 PM

The US Constitution only requires the Executive to inform Congress of the SOTU.

Speaker Pelosi told Trump he could put it in a letter.

Lol. I loved it when she handed Trump his ass.

Then after he behaved himself for a moment, she invited him the use the floor of the US House of Reps, and him being the attention addict he is, he couldn't resist.

Do it on March 4th! That'll set off nut cases!

by Anonymousreply 8February 28, 2021 11:37 PM

No politician will pass up a chance to address both houses of Congress and have their speech broadcast live to the nation on all the major networks but I wish we would elect one who would.

by Anonymousreply 9February 28, 2021 11:55 PM

I think the Republicans voted no on it.

No, wait, I'm sure they voted no on it.

“ OP is asking because the Fascists are all claiming Trump's speech was the SOTU address”

I have no idea what you are talking about. Every President that I recall has had a joint address/SOTU in their first year. I hadn’t seen anything for Biden. But I am all for it being skipped - now and in the future. Write it down, and email it in.

by Anonymousreply 11March 1, 2021 12:04 AM

Trump's were technically State of the Confederacy addresses.

by Anonymousreply 12March 1, 2021 12:11 AM

I would not be surprised if the Repugs sat at Biden's entrance and the word "boo" shouted during Biden's speech.

by Anonymousreply 13March 1, 2021 12:20 AM

They need to get Joe to the point where he can read two sentences without mumbling "Where am I?" first.

by Anonymousreply 14March 1, 2021 1:16 PM

R11 must not recall Obama, because his speech in February of 2009 was NOT an official State of the Union address. His first official SOTU was in 2010, W's was in 2002, and Clinton's was in 1994, all in their second years, not their first.

by Anonymousreply 15March 1, 2021 2:45 PM

I am wondering if they will have it at all because it was threatened that during the SOTU the idiots would blow up the capitol.

by Anonymousreply 16March 1, 2021 2:49 PM

They never have a SOTU in the first year, for god's sake, we've covered this already.
